Chapter 47
CHELSEA~~~~
Dana sobbed uncontrollably as she narrated the events that took place in her mate's pack. She told me of the friends while she lived there, his late girlfriend, and the effort she and Lily put into being a better werewolf worthy of being by his side. She wanted to be strong enough to be a Luna who could lead the pack beside him. He is an Alpha after all. By the time she was done, her eyes were swollen from crying too much. To top it all off, Natalie seems to be missing.
"What are you gonna do now?" I asked.
"I've decided to focus on finding Natalie," she sniffled. "I can't keep crying about that bastard either. I'm sorry, I just couldn't help it."
"It's okay," I smiled. "You should lean on my shoulders whenever you need one. That's what besties are for, right?"
"Yeah," she smiled in return. "Lily is prolly mad at me for being such a crybaby after my supposed strong resolve to not cry over him again. It just hurts that the two men I've loved are just such assholes. It makes me feel so unlucky."
"As you said, they're assholes," I sighed. "You don't need to cry over assholes like them. You haven't even gotten a chance to live a normal life since you turned eighteen."
"Yeah," she replied and blew her nose. "Now that I think of it, my life turned upside down on my eighteenth birthday. I guess adulthood wasn't lucky for me." She gave a small laugh as she said. It was cute she was attempting a joke in such a bad situation.
"What?" I asked as she suddenly frowned.
"Lily said it was a dry and sad joke," she replied with a pout. "Bitch."
"I was thinking the same thing," I laughed. "The joke actually made me pity you."
"You both are so fucking mean!" she said standing up and storming into the kitchen.
"Surely you didn't expect it to be funny, did you?" I laughed but I realized she actually expected that when she gave no reply. "You have such a twisted sense of humour."
"So what do you wanna eat?" she asked from the kitchen.
"There are still groceries in the house?" I asked. "If Natalie has been missing for the duration I think then shouldn't the groceries be bad by now?"
"Natalie has her way of preserving stuff," she replied. "Besides I'm only using canned food."
I sighed in disappointment. "Why ask what I want to eat if you already had the plan to use canned food only."
"Just an act of courtesy," she replied.
"Courtesy my ass," I muttered and laid back on the couch. "What do you plan to do about Natalie?"
"I don't know yet but I hope she's okay," she replied. "Ouch!"
"What happened?!"
"I almost burnt my fucking hand!"
"Wow," I sighed. "When was the last time you cooked."
"Natalie handled most of the cooking here so I hardly ever cooked and I was never allowed to in Li-- that bastard's house."
"So you have almost no experience in the kitchen then?"
"I do have," she replied defensively. "Theoretically at least."
"Cooking is a practical action though," I said taking out my phone. It was almost 11:00 am. Ava spent quite a lot of time talking.
"Come help me here, will you?" she asked. "Why do you get to sit while I work?"
"It's because I'm your guest of course," I whistled. "The host cooks while the guest lazies about. That's how visits work."
"I'd most likely survive a fire because I'm a werewolf," she said. "You are the person in the most danger, Miss Guest."
"Fine," I groaned and cursed as I stood up. I made my way to the kitchen was by now a smoky mess. "What the fuck are you doing?!"
"Cooking," she said as she stirred what I assumed would be soup. It was only recognizable by the fact that I was liquid.
"Doesn't anything seem weird to you?" I asked, hoping she noticed she left the kitchen too close to the gas burner and now it's burning.
"Nope," she said. "Except the fact that the kitchen seems to be a lot more smoky than normal.
"That's because you're letting the towel burn, dummy!" I yelled. "And what the fuck do you think you're cooking?"
"Soup, I think," she said. Her face fell when she saw my expressionless face. "It's bad, isn't it?"
"Yes, it is," I sighed. "Let's just eat out."
"Cool," she said and thankfully turned off the gas burner. "I'm broke though."
I looked at her disappointedly. "How can a girl who's been living in a multimillionaire's house be broke?"
"Well, I didn't exactly have the time to ask for money when I was busy crying and trying to get away from him," she said.
"True. Let's go," I said and got my bag. "You rarely pay for your food whenever we eat out anyways."
"I have such a capable friend, so why should I?" she laughed. "You also are the one who usually suggests eating out also."
"A good excuse not to pay," I said getting into the car while she followed.
We drove to a nearby restaurant and some edible good food. She ate quite a lot and I ordered a take-home for her since I won't be going back home with her. My mom texted for me to be home as early as possible.
We drove around for a while since she didn't want to go back home saying it was too lonely now that Natalie isn't home and I won't be going back with her. I asked if there was a way to help her sniff out Natalie with her werewolf senses but she said it was impossible since it's been a while since Natalie was last present at the house and her scent has dispersed by now. She informed me that it was the first she tried doing when she got home hoping to surprise her.
We parted ways at 2:30 pm when I dropped her at her house and hurried home to meet mom who as usual was sitting on the front porch waiting for me.
"I told you to come earlier," she said not even bothering to look up at me. She was focused on something on her phone so I hoped she would let this slide.
"I had a few things to do at school," I lied easily.
"Things like what?" she asked. "Were they so important that you had to neglect your mother's order?"
"I'm sorry, mom," I said with my head bowed. "This won't repeat itself anymore."
"What won't happen anymore?" she asked.
"I would never neglect your orders anymore mom," I replied. "I'll do whatever it takes to meet up to your demands before attending to anything else."
"Sit down," she said still focused on her tab. It always amazes me how well she can hold a conversation even when she's so engrossed in her phone. "I would forgive you for disobeying an order so rest easy."
"Haha, thank you, mom," I laughed. "You're the best."
She then looked up at me from her phone for the first time since I got home. "What about lying?" Her eyes held so much fierceness in them that I flinched before I knew it.
"What?"
"What do I do about you lying to me?" she asked still glaring at me.
"W-what are you talking about?" I stuttered, the smile on my face disappearing completely.
"I'm saying exactly what you heard," she said looking back down at her phone. Although it doesn't change much, having her eyes off me reduced some of the pressure. "Do you think I wouldn't find out?"
"F-find out what?" I asked still trying to play dumb.
"Play dumb one more time and I swear I would make you feel pain like you've never felt before," she threatened, but she was also serious. My mom doesn't just make threats, she says what she could and would do.
"I had to go help her, mom," I replied tearfully.
"Who?"
"My friend," I replied. "She's had a rough couple of days and she needed someone to talk to. I had to go help her."
"You remember that you promised me the last time that it would be the last time you flunked school, right?" she asked still focused on her phone.
"Yes, mom," I replied, my voice almost a whisper. I think I know my fate by now. Nothing I say is going to get through to her.
"Your friend is that Ava girl, right?" she asked.
"Yes, mum."
"You've flunked school twice because of her now," she sighed. "Do I consider her a bad influence on you?"
"No, mommy!" I said quickly. "She isn't! She's a very nice girl! with a good heart"
"Sounds like a bad influence," she said. "A Yuki can never be fainthearted."
I stood up immediately. "I'm the one who disobeyed you and not her, so leave her out of this."
"Oh, you're standing up to me now, huh?" she asked with a smile.
"No, I'm making a deal," I replied. "I'll go stay in the dark room for seven days if you leave her out of this."
"Hmmm, seven days, huh?" she said as if thinking about it. "You wouldn't last that long."
"You just said it, didn't you?" I smiled. "A Yuki can't be fainthearted."
