Always talk about violence
Apollyon escorted Lilith to her chamber and, before leaving, informed her that Karin would come to bring her to the foyer later.
Lilith reached the study room, which Apollyon had prepared for her. She sat on the comfortable leather chair and leaned her head back on its headrest. While doing so, she recalled how her father used to sit on such a chair and would study for hours.
Lilith picked up the first book on herbology. She checked its index and began reading its first chapter. For ten years, she could not study anything since the entrance to her house was impossible.
As she read, a thought crossed her mind. Several times she tried to get into her house, but the people in the neighborhood would see her despicably. The once friends had suddenly turned into foes. "Why and when did they leave that place?" she murmured and shook her head as her concentration left what she was supposed to read.
This time, Lilith focused on her reading and got to find a lot of new things. She pulled out the drawer on the desk to find a notepad and a quill pen along with an inkpot. Apollyon had already made such arrangements for her. She took them out and placed them on the table.
Lilith dipped the quill pen into the ink pot and jotted the important points on the notepad. It was a wonderful reading experience since she got to learn something very new.
A knock on the door grabbed her attention and she lifted her head to check. It was Zoey with a tray in her hand. She had brought water for Lilith and came toward the desk.
"Zoey, I'm glad you came. I won't be in the palace in the afternoon, so you will have more hours to rest," Lilith asserted and picked up the glass of water which Zoey placed on the table.
"Is Her Majesty going somewhere?" Zoey inquired.
"Yes, with Apollyon," Lilith replied, placing the glass on the table.
"An hour has left for noon, Your Majesty," Zoey informed her.
"Really?" Lilith couldn't believe she was reading for more than three hours. She was so engrossed in learning something new that she forgot to check the time.
Zoey smiled a little as she put the glass on the tray. "Her Majesty has great concentration," she admired Lilith's dedication to learning. "If Her Majesty is done, then she should get ready to go out," Zoey opined.
"Oh, I am ready. I only need to look at the mirror once," Lilith stated as she rose to her feet.
"Is Karin here? Apollyon said he would send Karin," Lilith stated.
Zoey shook her head as she politely refused. Lilith hummed and went ahead of her.
Lilith looked at herself in the mirror and brushed her hair. She placed her fingers on the turquoise crystal on the pendant. "I wonder what clan Apollyon's mother belonged to," she murmured and dropped her hand.
She came out of the chamber and headed to the dressing chamber.
"Greetings to Her Majesty," Karin politely said. "The King is waiting for the Queen in the foyer," he informed Lilith.
Lilith gazed at Zoey, who came out of the study room with the tray in her hand. "I am leaving, Zoey," Lilith told her, who bowed to her.
Lilith walked ahead followed by Karin. As she reached the foyer, her eyes darted to Apollyon, who had been intensely staring at her. She stepped into the carriage directly, which made Apollyon smile.
"Her Majesty gets rude sometimes," Karin said.
"She loves to tease me. You cannot understand Lilith," Apollyon stated and got into the carriage. Karin closed the door for them and he went ahead to instruct the chauffeur.
"You were 3 or 4 years old when your mother passed away. Perhaps she had told you about her clan, but you forgot. You were a small kid at that time," Lilith remarked while Apollyon glanced at her with surprise.
"Why are we suddenly back to a topic which has no relevance at the moment?" Apollyon inquired.
"End my curiosity," Lilith replied.
"Devils grow up fast in the initial years. I was already a twelve-year-old kid with my brain and even looks. Mother never told me nor I asked," Apollyon asserted.
Lilith turned quiet and heard Apollyon say, "You should think about me, Dear. You think of everything in the world except me," he stated with a sigh.
"Through your mother, I did think about you," Lilith clarified to him.
"I don't want to come into your thoughts indirectly. My place should be first in your thoughts," Apollyon opined. Apollyon expressed his desire. The carriage slowly started moving before picking up speed.
"What work did you do in the morning?" Lilith inquired.
"Matters related to the kingdom," Apollyon replied. "Did you miss me while studying?" he asked with a grin.
"No," Lilith promptly replied. "Why would I miss you while studying? I am good at concentration," she muttered.
"As expected from my wife," Apollyon proudly said. His facial expression changed into a serious one as he continued, "Karin gathered the information about the region where you lived once. The people vacated that place almost eight years ago. Have you ever visited that place in those eight years?" He asked and waited for Lilith's response.
"I couldn't enter that place because the first time I went there, a man, who was a well-known official, got burned alive when I gazed at him. It was a terrible sight," Lilith stated. Though she didn't blame Apollyon in words, her expressions said that all.
"He deserved to be burned," Apollyon remarked.
"His family cursed me," Lilith said.
"I will kill them," Apollyon asserted, anger clouding his judgment.
Lilith became annoyed at his violent response. "You always think about violence. You cannot understand what I felt at that moment," she said, feeling misunderstood. Apollyon tried to speak, but she shut him down, warning, "Don't talk to me, or else I will be furious."
Her frustration was evident as her chest rose and fell with anger. Apollyon claimed to love her, but she felt he didn't truly understand her emotions and experiences. The tension between them lingered in the carriage as they continued their journey.
