CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Hazel’s POV
Elisa's anger boiled over when she saw that I was ignoring her, and she raised her hand to strike me. My heart raced as I braced myself for the impact, but just then a commotion outside the library caught our attention.
A group of students had been waiting outside, and they seized the opportunity to rush in and drag me away with them. They covered my eyes with a blindfold and hit me whenever I protested, making me feel terrified and powerless.
As they drove me away, my mind raced with thoughts of what might be happening to me. Were these students planning to hurt me? What had I done to deserve this?
In that moment of fear and uncertainty, I suddenly thought of Riven. I knew that he would be able to protect me, even if he was angry with me for not fixing the Book of Fate like he had asked.
But as the car continued to drive on, I could feel my hope slipping away. Where were they taking me? What did they want from me?
Eventually, the car came to a stop in a secluded area, and the students dragged me out of the car. I stumbled and fell to the ground, my hands still bound by ropes behind my back.
I was completely at their mercy, unsure of what they planned to do with me. All I knew was that I needed help, and that time was running out.
I was pushed to the ground, feeling the hard earth beneath me as the attackers began to punch and kick me mercilessly. I cried out in pain, my body wracked with agony as blows rained down on me from every direction.
Blood filled my mouth, making it difficult to breathe or even speak. All I could do was cough and sob, feeling helpless and alone in the face of this brutal attack.
Just as I thought things couldn't get any worse, a shot rang out, echoing through the air. The attackers were beaten back, their expressions changing from cruel triumph to fear and panic.
As they retreated, I pulled off my blindfold to see Riven standing over me, his eyes blazing with anger and determination. He had come for me, just like I knew he would.
Without hesitation, he knelt down beside me and gently removed the ropes that bound my hands. His touch was gentle and reassuring, telling me without words that everything was going to be okay.
I tried to speak, but my throat was raw from screaming and crying. Instead, I just looked up at him, my eyes filled with gratitude and relief.
"Come on," he said, helping me to my feet.
With his strong arms around me, I felt safer than I had in hours.
Thanks to Riven, I knew that I was going to be okay.
As Riven stood over the attackers, his eyes blazing with anger and his sword at the ready, I felt a surge of fear and panic. I knew that if he killed them, he would reveal his true identity as an evil dragon, and everything would be lost.
"Riven, please," I begged him, my voice trembling with emotion. "Don't do this. You'll only make things worse. You will be found out by those guys who are searching for you."
At the sound of my voice, Riven's anger dissipated, and he looked down at me with concern in his eyes. He reluctantly held back, lowering his sword and picking me up in his arms.
"You're right," he said, his voice softening.
"I won't kill them. But they need to know that anyone who dares to harm you will have to face the consequences."
Riven's words hung in the air, his voice filled with a menacing authority that left no room for doubt. The attackers glared at us, their expressions twisted with hatred and resentment.
"You better listen to him," I said, my voice shaking with fear and anger. "If you ever come near me again, you'll regret it."
The attackers didn't respond, but their eyes burned with a cold fury that sent shivers down my spine. I knew that the seeds of their hostility had been planted deep in their hearts, and that this wouldn't be the last time I would have to deal with their cruelty.
Riven held me tight as we walked away from the scene, his strong arms holding me close and his eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger. I was grateful for his protection and reassurance, feeling safe in his embrace.
As we continued on our way, I knew that I had a long road ahead of me, filled with challenges and obstacles. But with Riven by my side, I felt like I could face anything that came my way.
I looked up at him, a sense of gratitude and respect filling me. He had risked everything to protect me, and I knew that I owed him more than I could ever repay.
"Thank you," I said softly, my voice cracking with emotion. "For everything."
Riven just smiled down at me, his eyes warm and reassuring.
"Don't mention it," he said. "I'm just glad I could be here for you."
I smiled happily. I felt at ease in his arms, but I couldn't hold on any longer, and the next minute I fainted.
