Riven and Christain
CHAPTER EIGHT
HAZELS POV
There was a sudden noise from outside of Purgatory.
Through the seal of magic, I saw several blurry faces.
It seemed like the fight between me and the evil man had inside of the cave caused the Academy to notice from the outside of purgatory. Several magicians had come to the gates of purgatory out of fear that something might happen again,
Oh good I thought to myself. I would be saved from this evil man. The magicians would fight him off and I could go home to my sweet, normal life.
The evil man looked to me. It was clear he was about to run away. Before that, a familiar person came to the seal of Purgatory.
It was Christain, my crush, the one I had almost died for. It's great to see him safe. I'm thrilled.
Suddenly a strong powerful force pulled both me and Christain from purgatory back to the outside world.
“Christain!” I said, feeling like he had saved me from hell.
“Coming with me.” Christain shouted, trying to grab my arm and pull me away from Riven.
“I don’t think so.” Riven said, stepping between Christain and I.
Riven was now standing between Christain and I. His huge build blocking my view of Christain now.
“You’re not going with them.” Riven said, turning to me and giving me a glare.
Christain reached around Riven large body and once again grabbed at my hand.
“She is not going with you.” Christain said angrily. The two of them stared at each other in anger.
“Why don’t you just go back to purgatory sinner.” I hissed at Riven.
Riven locked his jaw and gripped my throat and lifted me high flying into the air.
I am in the air now!
Christain and the surrounding magicians to gasp and approach us.
“Come any closer and I’ll crush her neck.” Riven announced to the surrounding circle.
Out of nowhere, an arrow pierced into Riven side. I looked down as black blood began to pour out of his side. Riven barely flinched as the arrow pierced into his side. He only looked annoyed.
Riven sighed and pulled the arrow from his body in one swift motion, then turned to the crowd to see who had pierced him. I nearly gasped as we saw that Christain was the one holding the bow.
“You little brat.” Riven said to Christain. Christain placed the bow down and pulled a sword from his side. Riven took a fighting stance.
“My ancestors put you in purgatory, and I will make sure you go back.” Christain said angrily. Riven only rolled his eyes.
“I’d like to see you try.” Riven laughed.
“I will kill you.” Christain said, running towards Riven and swinging his sword hard.
Riven, seeing this, sighed again and pushed me aside, and strangely enough, he just used his magic to land me.
I fell to the ground and watched as Christain and Riven began to fight. Riven stumbled suddenly for no apparent reason, but that didn't stop him from using force.
The two of them were both exceptionally skilled, but it was clear that Riven was winning. Riven didn’t even have a weapon and was still delicately dancing and dodging around Christains attacks. It was like Riven was dealing with a child.
“Try harder Christain.” Riven taunted him. Christain, who was very full of his own confidence, angrily continued to attack Riven. Riven jumped up on a tree and Christain's sword became stuck in it the tree as Riven once again missed an attack.
“You’ll have to try harder than that.” Riven taunted Christain. Christain let out and angry sigh and finally hit Riven shoulder with his sword. Riven groaned out.
“Dragon steel.” Riven said, it appeared that the sword had the ability to seriously wound him.
“My purpose on earth is to kill you. It’s dragon steel dipped in rosemary poison. You will die.” Christain said. Christain looked to his shoulder then back to Riven. Riven grabbed the sword wedged in his shoulder and pulled it out with his bare hand. The steel burned his hand as he touched it, but he didn’t seem phased.
“Your poision and attempts will only make me stronger stupid boy. You’ve clearly never fought a true dragon.” Riven laughed. Christains eyes widened as Riven touched his sword with no pain. This only fueled both Riven and Christains anger more, and they once again began fighting.
This fighting made me feel so uneasy.
I just wanted the fighting to stop.
“You’re fighting is only making me stronger.” Riven once again warned Christain, Christain used his blade and sliced across Riven cheek. Black blood began to drip from the cut on his cheek.
“Oh wow, you really shouldn’t have done that.” Riven laughed.
Christain began to appear scared, but he refused to run away. Christains pride would kill him, I thought to myself.
“I will fight until my death.” Christain said with another skilled attack.
“Then prepare to die, pretty boy.” Riven said.
Everyone screamed as the forest floor began to shake. I watched from afar as Riven’s body began to shake. He was turning into a dragon, I thought.
More onlookers screamed or even began to run away as Riven human body transformed into a huge dragon. My breath caught in my throat at the sight. He was so beautiful and so scary. It was an insanely fascinating thing to watch. How could such an evil creature exist on the face of the earth?
Riven roared to the sky in anger with black flames. Everyone began to nervously scream or run away, only the trained soldiers staying behind and yelling at one another to create a war formation.
Christain looked scarred but still held his ground. Riven poured out black flames right at Christains body and he was forced to run away from the flames and duck. Christain then began to be chased by Riven’s dragon form.
“Follow them, follow them!” I screamed to the soldiers.
“No, don’t listen to her, prepare the arrows!” The soldiers said. I watched in horror as Christain struggled not to be burnt. Riven and Christain were going farther and farther into the forest.
“Hold fire, aim, release!” A general commanded, a measly hundred arrows or so aimed and shot at Riven.
I watched as the arrows bounced off his black scales like little twigs. The arrows wouldn’t work.
Christain was going to die, I thought to myself. I had to help him, I had to do something. My crush on Christain made me once again want to save his life, I couldn’t let him die.
I ran from the mountain into the forest after Christain and Riven. I wouldn’t let Christain die, I would do anything in my power.
I followed the loud noises of the dragons roars and footsteps deeper and deeper into the forest. I was panting so much, I couldn’t keep up with them. I began to lose track of them and track of where I was in the forest.
I looked around nervously and tried to catch my breath. I shut my eyes and listened to the surrounding forest, far to my left I heard the dragon roar again. I turned my body in the direction of the roar and began sprinting towards it again.
I finally found the two of them. Riven, in his huge dragon form, fighting off Christain at the edge of a large cliff.
If Christain fell from the cliff he would certainly die, I thought to myself. I had to do something.
Christain was bleeding and panting, his shirt had torn and he was clearly going to lose. I watched as Riven began to slowly step near Christain. Each step that Riven took toward Christain made my anxiety heightened. Christain would be pushed off the cliff if he didn’t do something soon!
Christain swung his sword angrily and screamed at the dragon.
“I’ll die fighting you! Go back to hell!” Christain angrily yelled at Riven. Riven only stepped forward once again, forcing Christain back. Christain tripped and fell back. He was now on the ground and very close to the edge. I watched Riven turn behind him and see the long drop down from where he was pushed to the edge.
Riven cocked his head back. It was like the dragon was stalking his prey, and sickly enjoying it. Riven looked like he was about to set Christain on fire!
At that exact moment I ran from the forest. I threw my body over Christains on the floor. I kneeled down over him. He looked so tired from fighting.
The dragon didn’t shoot out flames. Christain, exhausted, gladly hugged into my body. I held Christains body tight and protected him with my own.
