His Caring

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Hazel’s POV

Every morning, Riven would bring in a large bowl of dew and set it down beside my bed. He would then open the window and let the first rays of sunlight shine on my body.

"Good morning," he would say, his voice gruff but somehow comforting at the same time. "How did you sleep?"

He would help me sit up in bed and hand me the bowl of dew to drink. It tasted fresh and cool, and seemed to have a calming effect on my body.

Riven would then make sure that I ate a good breakfast, making me toast and eggs or oatmeal with fruit. He always had a way of making even the simplest meal taste delicious.

Throughout the day, he would check on me regularly, making sure that I was comfortable and didn't need anything. He would bring me books to read or tell me stories about his adventures as a dragon king.

Although his attitude was always very tough, like he was always ready for a fight, it also made me feel touched. I could see how much he cared for me, even if he never said it out loud.

Thinking back to how I had been living alone since the previous librarian left, Riven's arrival finally brought some life to the otherwise deserted library. His presence filled the empty halls with energy and excitement, and I began to look forward to his visits more and more each day.

I knew that Riven wasn't used to taking care of people, especially not someone who was sick like me. But he did it anyway, without complaint or hesitation.

As I lay in bed, feeling the warmth of the thick blanket that Riven had covered me with, I couldn't help but feel grateful for everything he had done for me. Despite his tough exterior, he had a heart of gold, and I knew that I was lucky to have him by my side.

Riven's subordinate visited me often, bringing me books and checking on my well-being. One day, he told me something that surprised me.

"You know," he said with a smile, "Riven wasn't always so good at taking care of others. But then he heard from an old dragon elder that caring for a sick woman is like caring for a flower. And somehow, that clicked with him."

I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of Riven trying to take care of me like I was a delicate flower. He was always so tough and gruff, it was hard to imagine him being gentle and nurturing.

"He's been doing a pretty good job," I said, smiling at the thought of Riven's efforts.

The subordinate chuckled. "Yeah, he may not show it, but he cares about you a lot."

I felt a warmth in my chest at the thought of Riven seeing me as family. Despite his tough exterior, I knew that he had a kind heart under all that armor.

"Thank you for telling me that," I said to the subordinate. "It makes me feel better knowing that he's not just doing this out of obligation."

The subordinate nodded, his eyes kind. "He's doing it because he wants to. And because he knows that you would do the same for him if the roles were reversed."

As the subordinate left, I lay back in bed, feeling grateful for Riven's presence in my life. Even though he could be difficult at times, I knew that he was someone I could count on, no matter what.

As the days went by, I found myself growing more and more attached to Riven. He was always there for me, taking care of me and making sure that I had everything I needed.

I saw everything that Riven did for me, from bringing me food and water to covering me with a warm blanket when I was cold. And while he could be short-tempered at times, I knew that it was only because he cared so deeply about me.

As I lay in bed one day, I realized something surprising: I had developed feelings for Riven. At first, I tried to brush them off, thinking that it was just because he was the only person around. But the more time we spent together, the more I knew that my feelings were real.

The thought of telling Riven how I felt made me nervous. What if he didn't feel the same way?

But then I remembered how caring and understanding Riven had been with me. He had gone out of his way to make sure that I was comfortable and happy. Maybe he would understand my feelings too.

Thinking of this, I was moved to tears, and Riven was very confused.

"I didn't sense any sadness from you, which is strange. Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong?" he asked, his voice full of confusion.

I shook my head, the tears still streaming down my face. "No, Riven, you didn't do anything wrong. I'm just...feeling emotional."

Riven looked skeptical, but he didn't press the matter. Instead, he simply sat down next to me and began to read his book again.

As I looked at Riven's profile, studying the way his eyes moved across the page, I couldn't help but worry about his identity as a dragon. In my heart, I wished that he wasn't the evil dragon king. I knew that it could be dangerous for him, especially if people found out.
Watching Riven work so hard for me, I decided that once I recovered, I would do something for him. I wanted to repay him for all the kindness he had shown me, and maybe even find a way to help him control his temper.

As Riven and I sat together chatting, I decided to bring up the blueblossoms I had found earlier that day.

"Riven, I found these flowers today. They're called blueblossoms, and they're supposed to have calming properties. I thought maybe they could help you when you're feeling angry," I said, pulling out a small pot of the blue flowers from behind my bed.

Riven looked at the flowers skeptically. "Do they really work?" he asked.

"I don't know for sure, but it's worth a try, right?" I replied hopefully.

Later on, our conversation turned to the topic of dragons. I told Riven about the different types of dragons and their history, including the infamous evil dragon king. Riven looked curious and asked what the evil Dragon King was like.

I decided to exaggerate a little, saying, "The evil Dragon King loved eating humans. Every time he appeared, he would eat a city's worth of people."

But as soon as the words left my mouth, I realized my mistake. Riven's expression darkened, and I suddenly remembered that he was exactly that evil dragon king himself.

"He actually loved eating women and children, especially girls like you," Riven said with a sneer.

His gaze made me feel uneasy, and I immediately tried to change the subject. "Um, hey, why don't you eat some more of this soup? It's getting cold," I said, trying to distract him.
