Chapter 138
**Sara**
Tom reached across the table, his fingers brushing against mine. "It means we take it one day at a time. See where this goes without putting too much pressure on it."
"Right, because sneaking around and trying not to get caught isn't pressure at all."
"Who's going to catch us, Sara? The campus police? Last I checked, we're both consenting adults. Besides, we've been nothing but professional at the university."
"Oh sure, if you don't count all those heated glances and 'accidental' touches," I muttered into my coffee cup.
"I can't help it if you're irresistible. But seriously, you're finishing your MBA in a few months. After that, well..." He trailed off, leaving the possibilities hanging in the air.
"After that, what? We ride off into the sunset in your fancy car?"
He laughed. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Look, I'm not sure about a relationship, and I'm definitely not using you for sex. We'll see where this goes. If it goes nowhere, we can be friends or... whatever."
"Whatever?" I repeated, unable to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. "Wow. You really know how to make a girl feel special."
He looked a bit sheepish. "You know what I mean. I just don't want to put any labels on this... thing between us. Not yet, anyway."
I sighed, taking another sip of my coffee. The coffee's richness clashed with my rising bitterness. "Fine. No labels. No pressure. Just two adults having regular mind-blowing sex. Got it."
Tom's eyes darkened at my words, his gaze dropping to my lips. "Speaking of mind-blowing..."
I kicked him under the table, trying to ignore the heat pooling in my belly. "Down, boy. Remember our little challenge?"
He groaned, leaning back in his chair. "How could I forget?"
I smirked at Tom's frustration. It was nice to see him squirm for once. I leaned forward, deliberately giving him a tantalizing view of my cleavage.
"Oh, poor baby," I cooed with feigned sympathy. "Is it getting hard for you?" I paused, letting the double entendre hang in the air. "The challenge, I mean."
His eyes widened, his gaze darting between my face and my chest. He shifted in his seat, clearly uncomfortable. "I'm perfectly fine, thank you," he said, his voice strained.
I raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Are you sure about that? Because it seems you're having a little trouble... keeping your eyes up here." I gestured towards my face with a playful smirk.
"I assure you, I'm in complete control of myself."
"Uh-huh," I said, reaching for my coffee cup. As I lifted it to my lips, I arched my back slightly, pushing my chest forward. "So you're telling me you can resist all of this?" I gestured to myself with my free hand.
His jaw clenched. "Yes," he said through gritted teeth. "I can resist."
I laughed, taking a long sip of my latte. "If you say so."
Tom's eyes narrowed, accepting the challenge. He downed the rest of his espresso in one gulp, then set the cup down with a decisive clink.
"Well, since we're here and I've got you all to myself, I wanted to ask you something."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? And what's that?"
"How do you feel about... spontaneous adventures?"
"Depends on the adventure," I replied cautiously. "Are we talking 'surprise party' level or 'wake up in Vegas married to a stranger' level?"
"Nothing quite that extreme. I'm planning a weekend trip and would like to know if you'd like to join me."
My heart skipped a beat. A weekend away with Tom? The possibilities were endless... and potentially dangerous. "A trip? Where to?"
He shrugged, looking a bit sheepish. "That's the thing... I haven't exactly decided yet."
"You're asking me to go on a trip with you, but you don't know where? That's some A+ planning right there, professor."
"Hey, I said it was spontaneous, didn't I?" He grinned. "Come on, where's your sense of adventure?"
I pretended to think about it. "Hmm, I don't know. My sense of adventure might be busy this weekend. What exactly would we be doing on this mystery trip?"
"That depends on where we end up. But I can promise you good food, beautiful scenery, and..." He paused for dramatic effect. "The pleasure of my company, of course."
I snorted. "Oh, well, in that case, how could I refuse?"
"So, is that a yes?"
I bit my lip, considering. A weekend away with Tom did sound tempting—very tempting—but also potentially disastrous for our little "challenge."
"I don't know. What about our challenge? A whole weekend together... that's a lot of temptation."
"Well, we could always end the challenge early. Say, by Friday?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so now you want to change the rules? Scared you're going to lose?"
"I'm not scared of anything. In fact, we could end it right now if you'd like."
My breath caught in my throat. God, it was tempting. So very tempting. I could already imagine his hands on me, his lips trailing down my neck...
I shook my head, trying to clear the fog of lust. "Nice try. But I'm not that easy to crack."
"No?" He reached across the table, his fingers brushing against mine. "Are you sure about that?"
I pulled my hand away, ignoring the jolt of electricity that shot through me at his touch. "Positive. In fact, I think we should stick to our modified plan. Friday it is."
"Friday it is, then. But don't say I didn't give you an out."
"Oh, I won't need an out," I purred, oozing fake sweetness. "I will enjoy watching you squirm for the next few days."
"We'll see who's squirming by the end of the week."
I took another sip of my latte, using the mug to hide my grin.
