CHAPTER 37

“That's understandable. What you have to know is your wife is a strong girl. She grew up being mistreated daily and it wasn't a secret. They abused her, starved her and beat her severely but she never ran. They were the only family she got. When her parents died, she was devastated, she couldn't live in that house anymore so she sold it.
Never saw her again ever since until recently. She was all smiles which was a relief for such a sorrowful child. So, since you married her now, I beg you to take care of her. Never let anything harmful happen to her. She might go crazy sometimes but it's not her fault. She just developed a mechanism to protect herself from any bullying of all sorts,” the old woman was so sad when she narrated about this.
“I didn't know, I only saw the scars but I'm afraid if I ask then she would be sad all over,” he said in a degrading tone, he was hurt to hear everything that had happened to Aurora. How he wished he was there for her when she was going through all this?
“Indeed, she will be. Just don't remind her of anything that happened in the past. Let her start on a fresh page and make happy memories. My wish is to just see her happy and she is happy now,' the granny said.
“Thank you very much. I will not take too much of your time, I have to get back to her now,” he said gratefully and sincerely as he stood up.
“Sure, pass my greetings to her,” the old woman said warmly satisfied by this man whom Olivia had found for herself.
“I will. Please take this as a token of my appreciation,” he said and gave the woman a stack of money.
She smiled and thanked him graciously and he left for his next destination.
The old woman was hiding something, he could feel it but there was no way she could force her to spill the truth out. What was the truth that she was hiding that was so horrible than parents abusing their own child?
The next stop was a morgue but why would his wife would visit a morgue?
His answers would be found inside so he went inside and met a man who looked to be in his forties judging by his countenance.
“How can I help you sir?” the man asked politely as soon as Lucian walked in.
“I am looking for Peter,” he said, answering the man’s question.
“I am Peter. What can I help you with?” Peter introduced himself with a polite smile on his face.
“I am Olivia's husband and wanted to meet you,” Lucian introduced himself to Peter and he saw the man's face changing and it was not in a good way.
It wasn't a good facial expression; it was as if the man didn't like him at all.
“So, you are the husband? What do you want?” Peter became hostile instantly and even the beautiful smile that Lucian had seen before was gone.
“I wanted to meet the people in her life and say hello,” Lucian wasn’t one to back down and seeing this Peter acting like this, he was sure there was a story here.
“As you can see, I'm all fine. I have things to do, so please excuse me,” Peter said coldly as he tried to chase Lucian away.
Lucian knew that there would be no way he will make Peter talk so he left the morgue and returned to the hotel. Lucian was a patient man and if he acts rashly, his answers will end up being buried. As a man who was in love, he understood how he looks at Aurora and it was that possessive look he saw in Peter’s eyes when he talked about her.
“Where is my wife?” he asked the staff as soon as he arrived.
“She is still at the parlor,” the employee replied.
Upon hearing that, he went back to his suite and began to rummage through Aurora's things. There was nothing fishy or strange. He took her cell phone and went through it but there was only his contact and the rest of the family’s’. There was nothing else; maybe he should stop trying to look into something that he only has suspicions of.
He called Victor and he picked up on the third ring.
“Sir, what can I help you with?” he asked.
“Look into someone for me,” he said and sent a picture of Peter.
“I will get to it right away,” Victor said and hung up.
He was going to look into this Peter and see what he really was up to and maybe he would then find the connection between the two.
He went in search of his wife; he wanted to see that face capable of concealing anything. His wife was a genius but one way or the other he was going to reveal her real face behind that entire mask she wears.
***
Aurora knew the kind of husband she married; he was very suspicious form the beginning. He wanted to know more about her which is why he brought her to Queensland in the beginning. He would be closer to finding exactly what she was really like and there were two people who really know about her.
If he found out that she was an assassin, then it would be all over for her. What would happen to her if he found out?
She knew how crazy the granny could be at some point. Everyone can be bought as long as it benefits them. Peter was a trustworthy man but she learnt that he had always loved her and now that she was married to someone else, she believed that would definitely change.
So, to test their resolve she told the driver to tell her husband exactly where she went. She wanted to know if they could talk and how they will respond to his questions and she heard everything thanks to technology.
