WHITNEY

"Tell me, honey. How have you done to accumulate all this wealth?"

"Have you inherited or you are the one who struggled to plan everything for this abundance?" I demanded As I helped to arrange his office.

I helped to clean the dust on some books and I profited to do a discrete inquiry about him, nothing should be neglected, he could reveal more than he should.

I was on the lookout for information, whatever he said must be valuable.

At this question, he took a seat, stopping cleaning with me, as if what he was going to say would be unbelievable.

Through this act, he got all my attention.

"I am the one who built everything. Though I had to thank god for the chance he had ordered to follow me," he uttered

"Not just God but, I should also thank a friend of mine, a good one who helped me to start my quest for financial advancement" He announced.

Every word coming from his mouth captivated me the most, the most he uttered, the most I ceased to sweep, and I took a seat at his side to fairly understand what he was trying to convey.

"A friend of yours?" I repeated what he had previously said, cause I had never heard him talk about somebody he had ever considered.

"Yes. An irreplaceable one,"

"And who is this friend you carry so jealously in your heart?" I was impatient to hear more about it.

"His name is William Parker." He finally blurted. I received something like a shock in my heart, he knew how to tear me into a million pieces.

He was talking about my father, with such tenderness, anyone hearing him could believe they were friends.

He broke my enthusiasm, this dude had to pay.

"This story last for fifteen years now," he mumbled with a glance at me.

"Are you alright?" he shook me on my shoulder, I was no more listening to him after I heard my father's name coming out of his maw, I had stopped, lost in the myriads of thoughts cruising my brain.

"Yeah. Everything is good. Sorry honey, please continue, tell me more about this friend" I needed to hear more about this tale.

"This friend helped me a lot. He was so kind to me."

"We were partners in a business concerning the exploitation of a mine. A mine of Diamond" He explained.

Until now, I wasn't aware of what kind of business my father was doing with him, he killed him when I hadn't yet the ability to understand something about his business.

My father had a mine of Diamonds, if this asshole could imagine he was talking to the daughter of the man he had assassinated ten years ago.

"I think this business had boosted both of you into an upper social rank" I had to pursue this discussion, without letting any sentiment escape my composure.

"No. just me" he said calmly with a tone feigning nostalgia.

"My friend, William Parker..." He stopped, stressing my father's name with a countenance with showed he missed him.

"My friend offered me his part of the business"

"All his percentage" he explained, my heart thundered.

I put my hand on my chest trying to hold my heart, It seemed this grab I made helped me to maintain it in just one piece.

There was a bottle of water, on his desk, I immediately took it and swallowed a bit.

"This is an exceptional friend" I struggled with the emotion I felt to speak calmly.

"Everything is right honey, continue please," I said, as I saw the way he was staring at me, with an odd look.

I didn't want to let grow skepticism.

"An exceptional one" he repeated.

"Why did he do it? He didn't give you any motive which had forced him to act as he did?" I couldn't stop asking, I wanted to know everything and see how nasty this man was.

"He told me he had gotten a better business opportunity, better than what he had there. And he left. It was a small mine though high enough to facilitate us to reach the upper rank", it was obvious he had fabricated it just at the moment.

"And... and where is he now? Do you have... Do you have any information about him?" I asked my heart oozing, my voice stuttering, and my eyes shining with the tears filling in.

"I don't know where he is now, the last time I had seen him was when I led him to travel"

"Though I don't have any information about him, I know that wherever he is now, he is happy"

"He was so pleasant"

"I miss him sometimes," He said.

I could no more hold back my sobs, I took him in a hug and cried, I poured all the tears I could on his shoulder. He couldn't know the resentment he was provoking by his words.

"Why..? Why are you crying, honey?" He questioned passing his fucking hand filled with the blood of innocent into my strand.

"I can't retain my tears when I think of what this man has done for you" I expressed recovering my breath.

"Did he have a child? How was his wife? tell me more about him."

"During how many times were you friend?"

"It is the first time I see you so interested in a subject" He expressed, smiling, delighted by the interest I showed.

"He didn't have a child, we weren't friends for so long, though enough to know if he had a child or not, he had never talked to me about any child." He expressed.

"Okay.. okay" I replied. His surprise would be a huge one.

"And his wife... His wife was one of the most beautiful women I had seen"

"Always happy, always smiling. Sometimes I was jealous of him for having such a good wife" he teased, as if I was supposed to laugh, I hated him.

"Now we are talking about his wife. Let me tell you, you look perfectly like her"

"How I hadn't remarked it before"

"You have the same eyes, these blue sea eyes, and the same dimples, her hair was also so black and long" he stood from his seat to look at me.

I was delighted to know, I looked like my mama but I had to deny everything, to not let grow any suspicious in his wit.

"Thank you for the compliment but it is just a coincidence" I expressed standing to continue clearing things as I did before.

I had to change the subject.
