Chapter 38

Chapter Thirty-Five
We Got Sidetracked
"No, it w-"
And then I was cut off by Noah swiftly leaning down to place his lips on top of mine to kiss me.
I froze.
For a second I froze but then I have into it and kissed him back because for some reason, although I was scared of what this would lead to or mean, I didn't want to ruin this moment.
My whole body felt like it was melting like candle wax as Noah had his arms wrapped securely around my waist, holding me close to him.
Noah's lips moved gently and carefully against mine, slow, like he wanted to savour every second.
Our lips moved together in perfect rhythm, like they were two puzzles pieces waiting to be placed together.
My hands someone landed on Noah's chest, his heart beating triumphantly and at a quicker pace than steady.
My knees felt like they were going to buckle at any given second; if it weren't for Noah holding me, I would've fallen from my knees that were feeling weak like jelly.
Somehow we started moving. His lips continuing to move against mine, not leaving for a second as I started slowly stepping backwards. The two of stumbled slightly as our eyes were shut. We stopped taking small steps when my back pressed against the side of his car.
My hands found their way to the back of his neck, lightly brushing the short hair that stood there. Noah's hands were placed firmly on the small of my back, the simple hold radiating heat through my clothes where he was touching me.
I was breathless and completely intoxicated by Noah and his lips moving smoothly against mine. My chest felt like it was going to burst open with fireworks and my whole face felt like it was on fire.
Our lips continued dancing with each others for another minute before my phone started ringing.
Startled by the unexpected noise that rang in the silence of the night, Noah and I pulled apart, the two of us breathing heavily, out of breath.
Noah took two steps away from me as I struggled, feeling clumsy and gawkish as I pulled my phone out of my back pocket.
Glancing at the screen for a quick second, I caught before answering, "Hey... Charlie."
"Hey, sis," he chuckled awkwardly. "It's been a while since Noah left to pick you up. I was just calling to make sure you two hadn't actually gotten eaten by bears."
My face was blazing with heat even though it was a cool and chilly night out. I shifted on my feet, clearing my throat, suddenly feeling very awkward. I kept my gaze on the ground, afraid to look at Noah.
"We... are on our way. We got sidetracked and stopped for McDonalds," I uncomfortably coughed, shaking my head at the stupid excuse. I didn't want Charlie asking questions or making assumptions about why we had taken so long to get home.
"Oh, okay," Charlie said casually. "I'll see you home soon then. Drive safe."
"Will do," I muttered through gritted teeth, not sure how to make this awkward feeling go away. I was starting to feel sick to my stomach - not because of the kiss because frankly, it was the most magical and amazing kiss I have ever had. It really felt like an ending of a fairytale or something.
I felt sick because I wasn't sure what was going to happen next.
Part of me didn't even want to hang up the phone because I was perturbed about whatever conversation Noah and I would have next about what just took place and what it meant.
I exhaled deeply as the call ended and I lowered my hand, shutting my phone off and placing it back into my back pocket.
I reluctantly looked at Noah who was rubbing the back of his neck, "Charlie waiting on you?"
I nodded slowly, "Yeah... he was just wondering where we... um, just why I wasn't home yet." I mumbled so awkwardly, blinking so discommodiously because I didn't even have it in me to look away from him.
What the fuck did we just do?
Noah blew air out in his cheeks as he nodded, "Okay. We should get you home then." Noah didn't wait for a response as he walked over to the driver side and got in the car, me following and getting into the passenger side.
The ride back to my house was luckily short, only a few minutes long but it felt like it had been hours stuck in that car with Noah. Neither one of us said a word, not sure what we should say or do. It was awkward and uncomfortable and I never wanted to be in that seat again.
Finally, he pulled into my driveway and put the car in park before turning to look at me.
"Thank you... for picking me up." I mumbled sheepishly, offering a small but perplexing smile.
Noah nodded slowly, "No worries." He paused for a moment, mentally debating what to say.
"I will see you around," I mumbled quietly as I reached for the door to open and get out of as quickly as possible.
"Tiffany," Noah stopped me, his voice quiet and hesitant. I turned to look at him in question, eyebrows raised. "Should we... I don't know, maybe talk about what happened?"
I looked at him for a moment before glancing at the time to see it was a few minutes past midnight. I sighed, "Um, maybe? I don't know, should we?"
I was confused and unsure, feeling baffled and pathetic because back in the parking lot we were having this steamy conversation, both of confident and eager and now...
It was like a blind cow walked into a meat shop. It was so awkward there wasn't even a way to explain it. It was suffocating and agonizing.
Noah seemed just as unsure as I was, awkwardly running his hand through his hair or rubbing the back of his neck. Any sort of minor and random movement seemed to be better than sitting completely still, waiting for the other person to speak. "I think... we shouldn't ignore it."
"You're right," I nodded firmly, trying not to squirm in my seat. "Maybe we should... talk tomorrow? It's late, we're tired, it's been a long day and... well, maybe we should sleep on this so we don't say something stupid in the moment."
I didn't want to sleep on it. I much rather talk now and get it over with but considering how unsure and awkward we both felt right now, there was no way we'd be able to have a logical conversation about what happened.
Maybe it wasn't that big of a deal and by tomorrow it would be forgotten.
Yeah. That sounded okay... right?
Noah nodded slowly, considering what I offered. "Yeah, that sounds like... it sounds okay."
I exhaled, "Okay. Thanks again for the ride, I'll see you." I awkwardly started scrambling to grab my things. I opened the door but before getting out, turned to look at Noah with my eyes narrowed, "Can I ask something I have zero right to ask?"
Noah's eyes panicked for a brief moment, not having a clue what I would ask. He nodded hesitantly, "Yeah."
"Did you and Amy hook up?" I was surprised how even and not-stuttering my voice came out.
Noah blinked, completely taken aback by my question. This was clearly the last thing he expected to hear right now. "What?! No, we didn't. Why... what? I mean where did that come from."
I shrugged nonchalantly, "I heard you used to be the player type - ending up with some girl somewhere was a normal night for you. I saw you two together at the end of the day so how would I know, right?"
I didn't give Noah a chance to respond because frankly, it wasn't even my spot to ask this nor was it any of my business or concern who he hooked up with. He already gave me an answer and I wasn't expecting an explanation so I grabbed my things and got out of the car, leaving Noah taken aback and confused.
