Chapter 39

Chapter Thirty-Six
Again?
The following day, I was riveting with anxiety and anticipation.
I knew Noah and I were going to have to talk about the... the kiss. It was more of a mini make-out session rather than just a kiss but you know what I mean.
I hardly slept and was so anxious that I had been tapping my foot all morning.
I wasn't someone who overthought things or paid so much attention to them like I am right now - constantly thinking about it and worrying about what might happen. I wasn't like that, it wasn't me which is why it's so weird for me right now because I couldn't think about anything but the kiss.
Noah and I had three almost-kisses but they were left at the almost. They didn't actually happen. Those were enough to get my mind spinning in confusion but now, we had actually kissed and it was kind of perfect which was a bad thing.
It made me want to kiss him again.
It made me nervous to see him.
It made my mind constantly drift to the thought of him.
I was not naive or oblivious like the girls in all the books who deny their feelings and don't realize what is happening.
These are signs that I am falling for Noah.
I did not like Noah and hypothetically, if I was starting to, then I would be smart and stop it from getting any further which is why I was so anxious to see him because I had no idea what would happen.
The kiss might just change everything. And I didn't know what sort of change to expect.
"What is up with you?" Ezra muttered, looking at me with his eyebrows pulled together in confusion. He narrowed his eyes, clearly seeing that I was jumpy which was an odd thing for me.
Charlie chuckled, "Please let me know too. She's been on edge all morning."
"It's like her ass just caught fire." Jade chuckled, shaking her head. "I've only been with her ten minutes and I noticed it too."
I looked between my four friends, including Luke who was with us, with my eyes narrowed in drudgery, "I don't know what you're talking about. I am perfectly fine, just had an extra cup of coffee."
Jade scoffed, "I've seen you on caffeine high and this is not it."
"Must be food poisoning from the McDonalds," Charlie murmured, not paying much attention because he was more interested in Jade as he leaned down to place a soft peck on her lips.
I choked on the oxygen that was in my lungs, starting to cough when Charlie brought up the McDonalds because that is what I told him Noah and I were doing when in reality, we were swapping saliva like fucking birds.
"Woah, princess. Easy there." Luke mumbled softly, a small grin on his face as he rubbed my back and helped me get the cough out.
I inhaled and exhaled a deep breath, regaining my posture, "Thank you, Luke," I grumbled as I looked down the hallway hoping to see Noah while at the same time I was also debating if I should bolt in the opposite direction when I see him.
Luke chuckled, "Did you really get McDonalds without me? Should I be hurt?"
My eyes widened a bit but I didn't have a chance to say anything because Charlie spoke before I could, "Yeah, she didn't get home until after midnight because her an-"
"You know what!?" I smiled brightly although it wasn't heartfelt as I cut off Charlie, slightly more enthusiastic than normal in attempts to dodge a conversation about Noah. As soon as Charlie would bring Noah up, Ezra would look at me with that 'I know more than you think' look and Jade would ramble on with questions about Noah and I getting together -which was not going to happen. "Come get coffee with me, Luke!"
Before he could protest, I grabbed his arm and started pulling him down the halls towards the cafeteria.
"Thought you already O-D-ed on caffeine, Vos!" Jade called out with a laugh behind us. In return, I flipped her off as I continued pulling Luke down the hall with me.
"We are officially late for class," Luke said with a grin as we walked down the hall after we had gotten coffee from the cafeteria. The halls were empty, no students in sight because the first bell of the day had rung two minutes ago.
Luke didn't bother to question my unusual mood today, instead he just joked about other things which I was thankful for. Luke had a short-attention span anyways which was helpful in my case because he didn't bother to ask what Charlie was saying when we left.
"My bad," I mumbled with a smile, not really feeling bad as I sipped on my coffee.
"I'll see you in Chem?" Luke asked with his eyebrows raised as he nodded towards a shut classroom door where he was headed.
I nodded, "Yup." I smiled as he waved me off and headed to class.
I was left walking alone in the vacant halls, sipping on my coffee as I made my way to the other side of the school because that's where my first period class happened to be.
A small squeal escaped my lips, my coffee nearly dropping right out of my hands when my arm was pulled back. I was spun around and pushed up right against a locker.
I blinked, regaining my footing as I opened my eyes to see Noah who was smirking at me.
I pushed him off me with my free hand that wasn't holding the coffee cup. Ignoring the fact that I had gone breathless, I glared at him, "Noah! What the hell?"
Noah chuckled, tilting his head in amusement as he looked at me, "Hey, sunshine."
I was stunned and confused, not expecting to see Noah right now. I really thought the coast was clear but of course he happened to not be in class the same time I wasn't either.
I blinked, remaining baffled for a moment before I continued walking down the hall. Noah followed, easily copying my footing and following me through the empty halls.
"Almost spilt your coffee there, sure you don't want to go grab another one?" He asked casually, his voice amused and lit with entertainment.
I didn't look at him as I continued walking, "I didn't spill it so no, I do not need another one." I muttered the words dully, ignoring the fact that Noah's comment was stupid and made me want to roll my eyes and chuckle at his oddness.
"Makes sense," Noah grinned. He was in a oddly good mood, amused like usual. It was typical of him to be like this but it was weird because was acting as if the... the kiss didn't happen.
Maybe I should do what he's doing and act like it didn't happen. Like a silent agreement to forget about it.
That sounded like a good idea.
Within thirty seconds I had convinced myself that was what I was going to do - pretend last night never happened, no kiss or fuzzy feelings or constant thoughts about Noah, everything could go back to the way it had been although, I wasn't quite sure how things had been anyways since Amy got here.
Luckily, we had quickly reached my class so I didn't have to waste anymore time with Noah, worrying about what to say.
I turned to him and gave him an in-genuine smile, "Not sure why you did but thank you for walking me to class. I was afraid I'd trip over my own shoelaces if you weren't here, Ace." I spoke with utter sarcasm, once again shooting him an aloof smile before I turned and was going to open the door to walk into class late.
I never had a chance to open the door because just as I had reached for the doorknob, Noah placed a hand on my forearm and stopped me.
I turned and gave him a confused look, my eyebrows pulled together as I didn't understand what he wanted now.
"Wha-"
I didn't have much of a chance to say anything because as soon as a syllable left my mouth, I was cut off by Noah.
Not just Noah, but his lips on top of mine once again.
My eyes widened while his were closed.
I thought we were pretending nothing ever happened!
Unconsciously, my lips moved against mine as he kissed me softly. My whole face heated up, my cheeks turning a bright rosy shade as Noah pulled away from me with a bright grin on his face.
Unlike him, I stood there dazed and bewildered, my eyes still wide as I looked at him feeling frozen in spot.
He just...
Kissed me? Again?
And without thought too. Like it was a natural reaction or something out of force of habit.
But it wasn't.
Noah kissing me wasn't us, it wasn't normal or something I would expect as he drops me off to class before riding a unicorn off into the sunset.
What the fuck is going on?
"For the record, sunshine," Noah grinned down at me, eyes lit up with amusement. "Amy and I did not hook up - like I already said. I was giving her a ride home because in Australia they drive on the left and the steering is usually on the right so she's not used to driving here yet. Plus, she lives around the block from me."
Noah shot me a bright and breathtaking smile, showing his pearly white perfect teeth. He started walking down the hall backwards, continuing to look at me and take amusement in my dumbfounded and still stunned state.
"For the record," he continued, speaking louder as he maintained walking backwards but was now further down the vacant hallway, "I am not interested in 'ending up with some girl' because I only have eyes for one. Funny, I happen to be looking at her right now."
He shot me another bright and toothy smile, winking before turning and disappearing down the hallway, feeling content with how he retorted both of our words from the previous night.
I stood there with my jaw dropped in entire stupefy for five minutes before I finally shook my head as if that would clear my mind, and then turned to walk into class late.
