Chapter 10 Alcoholism
Shelley hurriedly tried to catch Adrian, but she underestimated the man's height and weight. She caught him, but she was also pulled to the ground.
Fortunately, the carpet was thick enough, and they didn't feel much pain when they fell.
But Adrian was so heavy. Shelley felt it hard to breathe when Adrian lay on her.
"Adrian..." Shelley called Adrian's name with difficulty and tried to push him away. "Can you get up? I can hardly breathe."
Adrian didn't move at all. The strong alcohol smell made Shelley a little dizzy.
She didn't know if Adrian was completely drunk, or he was in a coma caused by alcoholism. But no matter what it was, she had to break free first.
Adrian was drunk, so he couldn't stand by himself. Now he didn't get up, and Shelley couldn't break free at all.
Shelley gave a wry smile and was a little anxious. If Adrian was suffering from alcoholism, he must be sent to the hospital immediately.
No, she had to call someone for help.
But she left her mobile phone in the bedroom when she took a shower, so she could only look for Adrian's phone.
Shelley searched Adrian's pocket. Fortunately, his phone happened to be in his pocket.
She took out Adrian's phone and made an emergency call without unlocking it.
Half an hour later, the ambulance came and the nurses helped Shelley get rid of Adrian.
Adrian was indeed suffering from alcoholism, and the situation was a little serious.
Shelley followed the ambulance to the hospital, filled out a lot of forms for Adrian, and paid for the medical bill. It was already three o'clock in the morning after she finished them all.
The ward was very quiet. Adrian was put on a drip on the back of his hand. His face still looked handsome, though it was so pale under the white light.
His nose was straight, and his lips were thin but perfectly beautiful. When he closed his sharp eyes, he looked gentle, very different from what he looked when he opened them.
Shelley looked at Adrian and began to be sleepy. Se unconsciously fell asleep beside the bed.
Adrian woke up when it was almost dawn. He saw the white ceiling first, and the smell of disinfectant in the air was very pungent.
He frowned, and instantly realized that he was in the hospital.
But he didn't know why he was in the hospital. He had no memory of this at all.
He only remembered that at the end of the banquet, Casper apologized hypocritically to him.
Casper proposed a toast and drank up the liquor in his glass.
Adrian had to care about his grandma's feelings, so he drank the last glass.
On the way back, he felt that his stomach was burning, and his mind was not very clear.
But he still remembered that he finally returned to Astoria.
Adrian wanted to get up, but when he moved his hand, he realized that someone was pressing it.
When he lowered his head, he saw a girl's fluffy hair.
The girl rested her arms on her head. Her brows were beautiful but she was frowning. She didn't seem to be sleeping comfortably.
Her arm was pressing Adrian's sleeve. His movement just now slightly pulled the girl, but she didn't wake up, which showed that she was very sleepy.
A nurse opened the door, came in, and saw that Adrian was awake. When she was about to speak, Adrian immediately put the finger on his lips, signaling the nurse to keep her voice down.
Seeing this, the nurse smiled, and lowered her voice cooperatively. "It's good that you finally wake up. Your girlfriend was frightened last night."
"What's wrong with me?" Adrian asked and found his voice was a little hoarse.
"You suffered from alcoholism. You pulled your girlfriend to fall and pressed her on the ground as soon as you got home, which scared her." The nurse happened to one of the nurses coming with the ambulance yesterday. Thinking of the scene at that time, she couldn't help smiling. "When your girlfriend heard that you suffered from alcoholism, she was so worried that she came with us without changing her clothes.
"Fortunately, it's not cold in the hospital, otherwise she would have suffered a lot."
Adrian finally found that Shelley was still wearing thin home clothes.
Frowning, Adrian pulled his quilt to cover Shelley.
Seeing this, the nurse smiled. When she came over to check Adrian, she added. "Such a good girl deserves great care. You can't let her down."
Adrian just lowered his head and did not speak.
The nurse turned around and left after she checked Adrian and found no problem.
As soon as she left, Adrian's face turned sullen.
With a cold face, he recalled what had happened yesterday. He only drank one glass of liquor last night. How could he suffer from alcoholism?
Unless...
There were some problems with the liquor.
Adrian turned around and saw his mobile phone on the bedside table. He took it and called Michael.
Michael was sleeping soundly. He was suddenly woken up by the phone ring and almost fell off the bed in shock.
When he saw that it was from Adrian, he hurriedly answered the phone.
Then he heard Adrian's cold and emotionless voice.
"Check if there are some problems with the liquor I drank last night."
"Um?"
"I only drank one glass of liquor, but it made me suffer from alcoholism."
Michael was woken up by Adrian's words immediately. He got up in an instant and said seriously, "I will check it right now."
How dared Casper do that to Adrian in front of Frieda?
When Michael put on his coat and walked out, he heard Adrian add. "It's not urgent. Go to Astoria first and bring some clothes to the hospital."
"Mr. Layton, you'd better stay in the hospital for some days. You need to be treated since you suffered from alcoholism..."
"Women's clothes."
Michael was speechless.
It was quite surprising.
Shelley was woken up by Adrian's voice. She opened her eyes and saw Adrian talking on the phone. Shelley rubbed her eyes and said, "You're awake. Are you feeling well? I'll bring the doctor here."
Her voice, which used to be soft, became even softer when she just woke up.
"No." Adrian reached out and stopped Shelley. "The nurse just came. I'm fine."
Shelley finally felt relieved, and only then did she realize that Adrian's face was a little cold. She asked, "What happened?"
The two were very close. Adrian could see his cold face from Shelley's eyes. He realized that he had shown his anger. He lowered his eyes, suppressed his emotions, and then said.
"It's OK. The boss called me just now and said I failed to get the contract."
So, he had drunk a lot last night because he had to treat the client well.
He suffered from alcoholism but still failed to get the contract. No wonder he was not happy.
Shelley thought for a while and didn't know how to comfort Adrian. She could only say, "Forget it. It's just a contract. Your health is much more important."
After a pause, Shelley persuaded Adrian sincerely when she thought of his illness. "You should try to drink as little as possible in the future. After all... drinking is bad for your health. You should work hard when you are young, but you can't always make yourself exhausted like that. If you make money with your health now, you will have to buy health with money when you are old. Does it make sense?
"You don't have to worry so much about money. I have money too. I can help you support the family."
