Chapter 25 My Dear Shelley

Shelley had a bit of a headache and wanted to dissuade him, but he didn't give her a chance.
"Alright, my dear Shelley, I need to prepare for boarding."
"Wait, Mr. Davis..."
However, the phone had been hung up.
No, she had to solve this matter before Mr. Davis came back, otherwise, he would definitely make it a big deal.
If she was found to have gotten married without permission by Mr. Davis...
Shelley couldn't even imagine what the consequences would be.
She first sent a message to Alfred saying that Mr. Davis was coming back.
Then she lifted the blanket off the bed and ran to find Adrian.
In the corridor, Adrian was stuffing Emily into the elevator. Emily was pulling on his sleeve and refused to let go. Her eyes were red as if she had cried.
"Adrian, I'm sorry, really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, I just... I just got jealous when I saw you and her staying together. I lost my mind and said some things I shouldn't have. Will you forgive me?"
Emily was pulling on his sleeve. Even though her fingers were sore from being bent by him, she refused to let go.
When she lifted her wet eyes, she saw Shelley running out of the ward. There was a flash in her eyes, and she used Adrian's strength to fall into his arms instead. She looked surprised and happy as she gazed at him. "Adrian, I knew you couldn't bear to leave me. You were just acting in front of that woman earlier."
Adrian frowned with disgust and tried to push her away.
But Emily stepped back first, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "Okay, I understand now. From now on, I'll keep my distance from you when she's around."
After saying that, without waiting for Adrian's reaction, she got into the elevator and pressed the button for the first floor. As the elevator doors slowly closed, Adrian saw a triumphant smile flash through her eyes.
Turning around, he saw Shelley standing not far away, holding her phone in her hand, with a faint expression on her gentle face. It was hard to tell what she was thinking about.
He realized that Emily had done it deliberately just now.
He frowned. He was about to speak, but Shelley had already approached him. "Adrian Layton, I need to talk to you about something."
The man's face sank at the sound of his full name.
She misunderstood!
Adrian reached out and grabbed Shelley's arm, frowning as he spoke softly, "She and I..."
"Forget about that for now," Shelley interrupted, "Mr. Davis knows what Trista did to me. He's on a plane back here right now. Sometimes, he can be unreasonable and over-protective, and I'm worried he'll make a big deal out of it. Do you know anything about how the police are handling Trista's case?"
Adrian was confused. "Mr. Davis?"
"Yes, Mr. Davis is my teacher, and he has always been good to me and treated me like his own daughter. He hates it when I get bullied." Shelley tucked her hair behind her ear. "He's been abroad before, and I didn't want to tell him about what happened. But Alfred told him, and now he's on a plane back here, which takes over ten hours. Can you do anything about it?"
Adrian thought Mr. Davis was just a college professor who taught her design. Even if a college professor caused trouble, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. He didn't take her words to heart.
Keeping a cold expression, he flatly replied, "There is solid evidence against Trista and her senior. I have contacted a lawyer, and she will be punished by the law. After Mr. Davis arrives, you can explain everything to him."
"That's not it. You don't understand what kind of person Mr. Davis is. He..."
"Enough!" Adrian frowned, showing a sign of impatience. "This is a small matter. You don't have to worry too much. Your fever hasn't gone down yet. Go back to the ward and rest. I need to go back to the company."
Without waiting for Shelley's response, he walked straight into the elevator.
Shelley watched his cold figure disappear and felt a pang in her chest.
It wasn't until the elevator door closed and the numbers started changing that she began to fully process what had just happened.
It was only when Alfred called that she snapped out of it.
"Alfred," Shelley answered the phone, "Mr. Davis is already on the plane. What should we do?"
Alfred's voice was much calmer. "Don't worry, Mr. Davis won't do anything rash."
Shelley covered her forehead in disbelief.
Alfred was the same as Mr. Davis. It was very frightening when they were over-protective of their own.
"Alfred, could you let me handle this on my own?" Shelley pleaded. "I'm not a child anymore, and I don't need to live under your wings all the time. If even minor things require Mr. Davis's intervention, when will I learn to be independent?"
Shelley didn't like relying on others, except for friends.
But this reliance also had its limits.
Alfred understood this well, so when he heard her desperation, he quickly softened his voice to comfort her. "Okay, I'll talk to Mr. Davis. And really, you're worrying too much. He is coming back not only to support you but also to help establish the brand."
Only then did Shelley breathe a sigh of relief. "Reestablish the brand? What about the foreign brand?"
Would it compete with the foreign brand?
"You'll find out later." Alfred teased.
As Shelley continued asking, he refused to answer and changed the topic before ending their conversation.
...
In the afternoon, Mia came over during lunch break to check on her.
Seeing that Shelley was doing well other than having a low-grade fever, she stopped worrying about her and took her to a restaurant to have lunch.
The restaurant near the hospital had a good environment.
The two chose a quiet place to sit down. Mia ordered light dishes as she considered Shelley's delicate health.
After handing the menu to the server, Mia looked fixedly at Shelley, propping her chin with her hands.
Shelley was putting the napkin on her lap, with a graceful and elegant movement that made Mia stunned. Every move of hers seemed like a painting, so beautiful and charming.
When Shelley raised her head, she caught Mia staring at her and couldn't help but laugh. "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something you want?"
Mia was only twenty years old, young and naive. Whatever she wanted to say, she said it without any hesitation. Her candor sometimes caught Shelley off guard.
She stared at her without blinking, smiling sweetly. "It's nothing. I'm just admiring how pretty you are. Also, I can somehow understand why Trista was so against you before. You don't know, just by sitting there doing nothing with your peaceful and beautiful aura, you could kill everyone else in comparison. You're really dazzling."
Shelley was stunned, looking at Mia's innocent smile. She never expected to receive such praise one day.
After all, there was a person who once said to her face while holding another woman's hand, "Shelley, you're too dull, bland, like a glass of plain water without any flavor. That's why I cheated on you. It's not my fault, and it's yours. People like you won't be liked by anyone."
