Chapter 29 Go Back to the Hospital
Adrian was persuaded by Shelley and agreed to wait for her outside.
Shelley returned to the private room and said that she had a fever.
Everyone in the private room noticed her red cheeks and thought that Shelley did not seem to tell a lie.
In addition, Wayne didn't really want something bad to happen to Shelley. Seeing those men staring at Shelley all the time, he was afraid that she would suffer, so he helped smooth things over and let Shelley leave first.
Shelley was relaxed, and hurried out with her bag, as if afraid that Wayne would chase her out to see her off. Shelley almost trotted all the way to the gate of Fantasia Resort.
Outside, Adrian was wearing a black woolen coat, leaning against a black Cadillac.
The colorful lights in the clubhouse exuded an air of luxurious life. However, Adrian was dressed in a cold and dignified manner. It seemed that he had nothing to do with this atmosphere, but somehow he fit in.
Shelley thought that was contradictory and weird.
Shelley ran all the way over, panting a little. "Sorry for keeping you waiting."
It was not easy to get rid of the group of people in the private room, but fortunately, Wayne helped. Otherwise, Shelley might not be able to get away so quickly.
Shelley was wearing a soft brown sweater. Because of her panting or the cold wind on a winter night, the tassels on her chest were swaying slightly, inexplicably attracting Adrian's attention.
Adrian glanced there again and again. He frowned. Then, he couldn't help but step forward and grab Shelley's down jacket. Adrian pulled it in the middle, fastened the zipper, and pulled it up to her neck.
"What?" Shelley was in a daze. Half of her small face was hidden in the collar of the down jacket. The furry side brushed her cheeks, making her look like a clever little fox.
Adrian pressed his fist to his lips and coughed lightly. "It's cold."
"Well." Shelley shrunk her neck again, and buried most of her face in the clothes.
In that way, Shelley looked very cute and obedient.
Adrian felt inexplicably relaxed as he watched.
He thought, 'With her appearance like this if she is really the kind of person who is deliberate and scheming, her acting skills are very good.
So, am I really thinking too much?'
"Let's go. I will take you back to the hospital."
"Well."
Shelley got in the car obediently.
They arrived at the hospital half an hour later.
The head nurse, Callie Marley, who was in charge of the wards on the VIP floor, was overjoyed when she saw Shelly.
"Ms. Harper, why didn't you say anything when you left the hospital privately? Ada was almost scared to tears."
Callie's tone carried fewer complaints but more worries.
Hearing this, Shelley guiltily said, "I'm sorry. I have to go out for something. I'm sorry for causing you trouble."
"It's good that you're fine." Callie breathed a sigh of relief, and carefully looked at Adrian next to Shelley. "Mr. Layton, do you..."
Adrian frowned and said, "Ask the doctor to come here. She has a fever again."
When Callie heard this, her expression changed. She said "OK." Then, Callie hurried to find a doctor.
Shelley glanced at Adrian beside her and said, "You scared her."
Adrian was confused.
Shelley said, "I ran away secretly by myself. It's nothing to do with the hospital or the nurses. You shouldn't lose your temper with them." Shelley felt a little guilty because she had hurt others.
Adrian asked, "When did I lose my temper?"
"Your expression clearly shows that you are not happy!" Shelley pointed to his face.
Adrian took a deep look at her.
He thought, "Sure enough, she still doesn't understand me." However, Adrian didn't intend to explain. He reached out and grabbed her wrist. Then, Adrian dragged Shelley back to the ward.
The doctor came quickly. After some examinations, Shelley did indeed have a fever again.
But the temperature was not as high as before.
The nurse soon came to put her on fluids.
When the indwelling needle was pushed into the vein, Shelley couldn't hold back, and shouted in pain.
Adrian frowned. He thought, "It is just a needle. I have never seen such a delicate person."
Then, he looked at the nurse coldly.
The nurse was just about to pull out the needle. However, because she was frightened by Adria's stare, her hands shook, and the needle tip was crooked.
Shelley cried out in pain.
The nurse's face turned pale, and she hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
In fact, the pain was just that moment, and it passed quickly.
It was just that Shelley had been sensitive to pain since she was a child. She couldn't bear even a little pain, so her reaction was more severe.
Seeing that the nurse was scared by Adrian now, she felt sorry instead.
"It's okay. It's fine. Don't worry." Shelley comforted the nurse, and by the way, glared at Adrian next to her, who was constantly releasing a stressful aura.
Adrian's aura was so powerful.
Even if he didn't say anything, he could still make people feel stressed.
Adrian ignored Shelley's suggestive gaze, staring at the back of her hand with blood.
"She is bleeding," he said.
The nurse's hand holding the tweezers trembled again. She dabbed iodophor to wipe the blood on the back of Shelley's hand, and explained, "The tip of the needle accidentally scratched it. It didn't hurt the blood vessel. It's not serious."
Adrian said, "Well."
The nurse put tape on Shelley with great pressure. She adjusted the drip speed and said, "Call me when it is about to be finished." Then, she turned around and ran out of the ward as if fleeing away.
Seeing that, Shelley wanted to laugh.
"Look, you scare her," Shelley rubbed her forehead and said, "Adrian, you are too serious."
It was just that there was an accident. However, he looked like the nurse was about to dissect her.
Adrian frowned. His character was like this.
Moreover, in the Layton family, if Adrian didn't stand ready at all times, he would lose everything.
Adrian thought, "If Shelley isn't acting, with a character like her, she will suffer without my protection."
Adrian thought of the call from Frieda...
He looked at Shelley and found that she was about to fall asleep.
It seemed that, considering that Adrian was still there, Shelley forcefully opened her eyelids.
"Sleep. I'll be here."
The simple words let Shelley relax.
As soon as she closed her eyes, she soon fell asleep.
Shelley didn't realize that she seemed to be well-adapted to Adrian's presence.
Shelley was not the kind of person who easily fell asleep with strangers around and in unfamiliar environments. It seemed that Shelley was born with great vigilance against strange things.
But when facing Adrian, Shelley's vigilance seemed to be very low.
When her breathing was stable, Adrian glanced at the remaining liquid in the bottle, got up and left the ward.
In the corridor, Adrian was standing by the corridor window.
The windows were open, and the cold wind howled in through the small rectangle.
Adrian just stood facing the wind, took out his mobile phone and dialed Michael's number.
Adrian liked the wind because it helped him keep calm.
Michael picked up soon and asked, "Mr. Layton, where have you been?"
