Chapter 54: Are you pregnant, Solene?

*You're acting weird, Solene," he said with a frown.*

**Chapter 54**

I didn't say a word until the food arrived. We ate in silence and unlike before it was unbelievable that I almost finished a box of pizza, a carbonara, and a large ice cream.

"Survived!" I said smiling as I finished the last bite of ice cream. Fire just looked at me with a look of surprise on his face.

"You ate everything!" he said, shaking his head.

"I feel like eating a mango while dipping it in strawberry jam."

"What the f*ck?" He grimaced.

"Why? That's delicious!" I argued.

I tried that in the past. The mangoes that Lillian brought from Guimaras were just right, and then my aunt sent me strawberry jam from Baguio.

He stared at me hard. It was as if he was examining my whole being, which is why I hugged myself.

"Solene... a-are you are you pregnant?"

I swallowed several times as my eyes rolled. "Huh?" I seemed to lose myself because of his question. My mind could not process his question.

I'm not pregnant, am I? Just because I eat a lot, I'm emotional, I have a hot head, and I love mangoes doesn't mean I'm pregnant right away, right?

"Holy sh*t!"

Even though my vision was blurry because of the tears flowing in my eyes, I still managed to see Fire standing up and hugging me.

"Sh*t! Sh*t! Solene, don't cry!" He caressed my hair while hugging me. I cried even more because of what he did.

"F-Fire... I-I can't... m-pregnant," I stammered.

"Wait, it's not sure yet," he comforted me.

Our gaze met when he cupped my face. He brushed those streaming tears from my eyes with his two thumbs. I also felt his soft lips on my eyelids. He's kissing my eyes, that's why I'm slowly settling down.

"B-But, Fire, how do-"

"I'll hold you accountable if you're pregnant. I won't let you go, remember that." He then kissed my forehead.

His words were so comforting, I let myself be drawn with it. I trust Fire. He won't let anything bad happen to me. He's the one who saved me from the very beginning, that's why I know he won't abandon me if I'm pregnant.

"Let's see an OB-gyne," he said.

I was shaking with fear. I don't know what my reaction will be when the OB tells me I'm pregnant. It looks like I can't handle it even though Fire is still there for me. I was just thinking about what would happen to my dreams, when it happened, my chest was engulfed in fear.

""Don't be stubborn, Solene," he said.

"Fire, I'm scared. I'm really scared.

I pressed my face into his broad chest. Even though he didn't pretend to be nervous, I can confirm because his heart was beating so hard.

"Don't be." He took my hand and held it tightly. "Just hold my hand tightly."

I nodded and tightened my grip on his hand.

We returned to his car and started to travel. I was just dumbfounded as Fire drove to the hospital. He convinced me to get checked up. The other is holding the steering wheel. The strength of one of his hands while the other hit my chest as we got closer

in the hospital. I bit my fingernails while walking down the hall. As I got closer and closer to the OB's office, I could feel my own hands getting cold.

"Good morning, Dr. Johnson," Fire greeted the doctor. I was just behind him while inspecting the entirety of the clinic. There are ultrasound pictures hanging on every wall and there are also many devices here.

"Good morning, Mr. Callante. What brought you here?" said the doctor, smiling. She turned her gaze to me, that's why I bowed. "Who's this lady?"

"She's Solene and she's with me. We want to know if she's pregnant or not."

"Okay." The doctor was still smiling so I felt a little relieved. "Ms. Solene, come with me," he said.

"She's nice. She won't do anything to hurt you," Fire assured me. He also kissed the top of my head. "Whatever the result is, I'm always here for you."

I smiled at him in response and followed Dr. Johnson. When I entered the lab I was exposed to a bed and some other device.

"Are you scared?" he asked and sat down at a mini-table where syringes were placed.

"A little bit," I answered.

"We need to test your blood. Can you please take a seat here?" pointed to the chair in front of him, so I walked towards it.

"Are you stressed lately?" he asked to which I nodded. "When was your last period?"

"A month ago already," I answered based on my memory.

"Let's proceed. Give me your left arm."

I stretched my left arm on the table and Dr. Johnson wrapped the tourniquet around my upper arm. He carefully took my blood.

"It's done! You can get the results after an hour. You can wait outside if you want."

I nodded before going out. Fire immediately came to me when he saw me.

"Are you pregnant? Am I going to be a daddy?" I could feel the excitement in his voice and that's why guilt swallowed my chest. He badly wants to be a daddy, while I don't want to be a mother yet. I'm not ready like him. I want to finish my studies first. I want to be able to work and save first. I want, when I step into a big responsibility I can say that I can really do it.

But right now, I really can't. Fire is beyond capable because of his status in life, while I am nothing. I don't want to rely on him just by chance.

"One more hour before knowing the result," I answered.

"It's okay! It's okay!" We both sat on the sofa while waiting for the doctor. I was silent while Fire was restless in his seat.

"Is something wrong, Solene?"

"Hmm... Fire..."

"Hmm?"

"Do you really want to be a daddy?"

"Hell, yeah! Especially if you're the mother of my kids!" His eyes were glowing with happiness, showing that he's really happy. "Why?"

"I'm sure you'll be a great dad when it happens," I said.

"You think?"

I nodded in response.

An hour passed and Doctor came out. If before I felt very nervous, now I don't feel even the slightest nervousness. No matter what the result is, I will accept it and be happy with it.

He was holding a brown envelope that was sure to contain my results. Fire and I stood up to match him. You can see the joy on F
