Chapter 55: Hormonal Imbalance
DECEMBER 3.
It's my twentieth birthday. It's exciting that I'm 20, but it's also sad because it means I can no longer be considered a teenager.
I checked my cell phone again and tried to get a text from him but there was none. Maybe he's so busy that he can't even send a text. In fact, why am I even expecting a text message from him when we're not in a relationship.
I sighed and continued showering. I pulled out a deep bun. Today is Saturday but I have a lot to finish. I have plates that need to be passed next week and I have to show the whole plan for the Christmas ball to the dean this week.
After I showered, I checked my social media accounts. My timeline is full of greetings, that's why I just liked everything. I don't want to waste their effort in greeting. When I was ready, I started to make other details for the Christmas ball.
I ate and rested before starting to make the plates. Because the doctor said, I shouldn't be stressed and go hungry.
I was in the middle of doing the plates when someone entered the living room. I didn't bother to look because just by smelling it, I already knew it was Lianna.
"Sol! Why are you eating ice cream!"
I was shocked by his scream, which is why I dropped the ice cream I was gulping down.
"You're not allowed to do that, right?!"
"You're making a lot of noise, Lillian" I scolded while covering my ears. It's embarrassing for the neighbors! This witch is really scandalous sometimes.
"Sol, why are you eating ice cream?" she whispered.
I blinked before answering. "I was so hungry for ice cream that I couldn't stop myself."
"But you know that's not allowed to you, right? Oh! Where is your raw boyfriend-slash-lover and I'm going to report you." She started fiddling with her cell phone so I grabbed it quickly.
"Please, even just today. It's my birthday, eh. Skip it," I said.
"You're really stubborn, Solene! I don't know how Fire lasted you. You know your situation, don't you? Do you want get well or you'll be forever-"
"Yes, yes!" I cut off what she had to say.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to remind you" Lillian apologized. I tried to smile while remembering what happened in the hospital in the past.
*"You are not pregnant…”*
*The smile on Fire's face suddenly disappeared and although it wasn't obvious to me, I must admit that I was also a little sad.*
*"But why is she experiencing the symptoms of a pregnant woman?" The sadness in Fire's voice can be seen while asking Doctor that.*
*The doctor sighed before answering. Suddenly my chest was engulfed in nervousness when he opened his lips. "It's because Ms. Solene is suffering from hormonal imbalance."*
*"Y-Yes? What do you mean?" I stuttered.*
*My hand started to feel cold again due to nervousness. Fire held it so somehow I calmed down.*
*"Hormonal imbalances are multi-factorial disorders. Meaning they are caused by a combination of several factors such as your diet, medical history, genetics, stress levels, and exposure to toxins from your environment," she explained. But I still don't understand what she's trying to say. She might have read the confusion plastered on my face so she spoke again.*
*"Delayed period, stress, cravings, and even passing out are some of the symptoms of having a hormonal imbalance."*
*"What will happen to me if I neglect it?" Even though I was nervous, I still managed to ask it.*
*"I'm sorry to tell you this, but hormonal imbalance may cause infertility."*
*Both of my knees went weak and I almost fell but Fire caught me. I couldn't stop crying because of what I heard.*
*Fire immediately hugged me and even though he didn't say anything, I knew he was disappointed by what he heard. He really wants to have a child and it looks like I can't give him that in the future.*
*"It's okay. You'll be fine," he whispered, stroking my hair at the same time. He wiped my tears and then I went to Dr. Johnson. I still couldn't believe it but I knew he wasn't joking because his face was very serious. And when will the doctor joke like this?*
*"Is there a way to balance her hormones again?" Fire asked and doubt could be heard in his voice.*
*"Yes, there are ways..."*
*And I was encouraged by what I heard. She talked to both Fire and me and told me what I should do. She also gave me a supplement that I had to take. I will also have a monthly checkup to monitor if my condition is okay or not.*
*"Sorry, Fire..." I said softly when we got out of the hospital.*
*"For what?"*
*I know you want to have children so I'm sorry if I disappointed you."*
*He ruffled my hair and then pulled me to give a soothing hug.*
*"All I care about right now is your health, Solene. Right now, it's not important to me if you can give me a child or not. All I want is for you to be well. And one more thing, we're still too young. "*
*I felt better because of what he said. I also hugged him tightly while pressing my head into his wide chest.*
"I'm really sorry, Sol! I won't mention that."
I was brought back to reality when I heard
Lillian 's voice. I smiled. Now that's a real smile. "I'm really fine, Lillian ."
