Chapter 12
She held her breath and shoved her face to the man who held her hand. He quickly rolled the scroll close and stared at her.
"How did you get here?" He asked with a stern look that made her heart skipped. Everything here was scary not to talk of the men who acted as demons over here.
"I...lost...my way" she stammered swallowing hard while acting like though she was lost.
"All the way down here?" He interrogated and her gaze switched into a frown.
"I keep walking in circles, can't I lose my way?" She furthered walking towards the door.
"Watch where your feet takes you to, it might lead you to death" he threatened and she was startled by his speech. Colton was more scarier when he spoke to her and she just had to be cautious not to fall into his trap.
"I will watch them carefully" she mused racing out of the place like a frighten chick. Once she was out of there, she held her chest, there was no way she could tell herself that she wasn't terrified by this place. Evenly say on the stairs to gain her breath. That room had alot of secrets of only she digged in more before Colton intervened.
"Argh" she groaned to herself while kicking her legs on the stairs. Her hand cupped the pedant that dangled on her neck as she often forgot that she had a necklace on her.
"How do I become visible?"she muttered as though speaking to this pendant and when no idea popped out of her head, she sighed.
"It's such a boring place though" she complained getting up on her feet and storming the stairs lazily. Then a though rang through her mind, how about she died again? It was better off perhaps she might find herself on the cliff again. Why haven't she thought of that in the first place. Evenly smiled naughtily to herself and hasten to the room she was kept. It was going to be hard for her to commit sucide but she was willing to do anything just to get back home. First, she locked the door just to make sure none of those brute comes in, then she climbed on to the window, observed the height at which she was going to fall. Bring out a jar that had water, she poured it at the tip of the window so as to aid her in slipping quickly. Evenly consoled herself to endure the pain while crash landing. She sighed with eyes closed as she figured out that she wasn't feeling any pain and she got them open only to realize that she was in the arms of Alex. What was he doing there at that moment.
"Seriously?" She muttered frustrated by her effort. They both stared at each other puzzled as Alex wasn't expecting to see this woman in his arms. He only stretched out his arms because he felt a liquid pouring down the window which he was beneath only to see someone land in his arms.
"Where you trying to escape again?" She didn't even realize that she was holding on to his shoulder tightly as scared of leaving his arms. She shook her head and glanced down, if he haven't caught her, she might have perhaps broken into pieces. Thinking about that, wasn't she invisible? Could the fall have affected her?
"Make me visible at least, let me feel like a human again" he said with fear in her tone as they locked eyes. He dropped her immediately and raked his hair gently as though troubled.
"Don't ask request from me..."
"Why? You're my husband and only you can give me answers I need, didn't the contract state that?" She tabled stretching her gown while bloating her cheeks. He scoffed sharply and scrutinized this woman who had spoken about the contract which he didn't mind but she referring to him as her husband was suspicious. Evenly gaze at him, he was more than a suspect rather she would refer him to a demon but perhaps someone could make this demon soft just as she had read in tale and it definitely wasn't going to be her. All she needed from him was to get out of this place anyhow possible.
"Husband?" He repeated as his eyes met her hands, they were folded in a fist and he guessed she was forcing those words from her mouth.
"I guess Colton was right, I need to chain you up, you're sly than I thought" he mumbled and she heard it clearly.
"I'm not an animal, even criminals has the right to speak for themselves, it's in the constitution" she opposed changing it to a debate. Alex rubbed his ears, he presumes she must be good in laws even as a journalist.
"If you only you co-operate" he mused beckoning on her to get inside. If only he could see the hatred in her heart, it would have been enough to burn him up right there.
"You're enjoying the scene out here" she diverted sitting on the grass and stared at the moon. She figured out he always stares at it with a straight face, she did the same perhaps the moon calms his worries so would it do to her.
"Go in!" He ordered as his voice became deep and threatening. Evenly frowned and laid on the grass. If she gets him provoked, something was bound to happen which would lead to her death.
"I'm tired to go back in, you shouldn't have caught me in the first place..." She paused and closed her eyes.
"Dear moon grant my desires by making this man miserable" she prayed out loud with folded palm together. She squint an eye to peep if Alex was around there but he wasn't which made her screech.
"All my efforts are always useless! What do I do! It's killing me!" She cursed rising up. Evenly intended to stand on her feet but was stucked to the ground. Something pulled her back as though wanting to bury her to the ground.
"Argh!!" She screamed struggling with invisible hands.
"Alex!!" She unexpectedly yelled shivering and a shadow loomed over her. It then dawn to her that it was her imaginations and she had caught up with herself uttering this man's name. Evenly covered her face with her palm embarrassed though. He shouldn't think anything stupid, she only called his name because he was the last person around there, she thought to herself.
"You vanished and so I thought it wise to call out to you" she lied to clear up anything that he was thinking in that brain of his. He hummed and stretched his hand to her.
"The spot you're sitting on looks like a grave yard..." He wasn't done speaking before she springs to her feet and hid behind him panting slowly.
"It's best you get back in" he furthered with a serious face as she bite her lips and stepped back nervously. Was he trying to make her scared so that she could get back inside? That wasn't going to work on her this time around. He tugged his hands in his pockets expecting she would take her leave but she was still standing there stamping her feet like a woman set for war. If she thinks he was going to ask her what was wrong then sadly she's lying to herself because he doesn't care. Possibly Colton's advise could work this time around, he might leave him to handle her. Alex turned his back heading towards the gates when he felt something hard hit against him and fell down. His eyes trailed off to the ground and found Evelyn's shoe. She must have hit him with it just to attract his attention which worked. He paced towards her with fury and she felt her sou had gone out of her leaving behind her body. Wasn't this what she wanted? To infuriate him and get herself murdered by this man. Her lips spoke gibberish words even before he reached out to her.
"Let's do this" she said to herself ready to die for real and get out of this cage, however he suddenly shoved her behind him and grabbed something in his hand. It was an arrow aiming at her and he was quick to have figured it out. Her palm rested on his back and he felt a spark inside of him.
'hurry, get inside and don't look back" he warned as her heart pounced. Her plans was ruined yet again but where did the sudden arrow come from in this contemporary society when there was technological advancement. Could these men be from the past residing in the present or future. She rushed back acting like though she slammed the door but she was peeping outside through the narrow door which she left opened, her eyes met with a white dress which certainly was a woman's clothing but the view wasn't clear.
