Chapter 7

Alex glanced at his watch and then at Colton, who was infuriated by Evelyn's every action that caused noise.
"It would be too late then" he assured, patting Colton on the shoulder who suddenly gasped at Alex.
"Did you get closer to the lights?" Colton asked, searching for a portion in his pockets. Alex was gloomy at that question, his guess was right, the light Evelyn lite at him must have affected him skin.
"Come on, we need to get you to the woods before dawn" Colton panicked and Alex nodded. He glanced at the moon and placed a palm on his chin while Colton held him on the arm.
The sun rose steeply and sat at the tip of the mountains, it was another day to make hay while the sun rose for those kept hostage like Evelyn, none of the climate changes matters. She was expecting the former to turn up and serve her a meal and dress as usual, but today was quite different, he wasn't doing any of that. Her sore had healed rapidly that she puzzled over what magic balm the stranger used on her, she walked up to the door to bang on it, and it opened up automatically. And as she came out, Colton appeared out of the blue, and she tapped her back head while folding her lips. Evelyn obediently turned around to go back to her new room which was pleasing and richly decorated, but he suddenly said;
"Run away and don't come back". Wow! the day guard was saying that to her? He must be fed up with her tantrums but sorry to burst his bubbles, she was going nowhere until that night guard makes her visible since he keeps blaming her that she was at fault, it only implies he was the cause of her current state.
"Why? Colton?" She asked saying his name and in scoffed in a mockery tone.
"Never ask why! Either you leave or die!" He retorts holding on to her arm.
"Don't touch me with those filthy hands!" She ordered, and he raised his hand to slap her but suddenly paused as she shifted her gaze aside, terrified by his action. This man must be a beast disguised, she neither knew who was better as they were filled with violence, if she ever becomes visible, they were done for
"Leave quietly" he repeated and her stomach rumbled.
"I'm hungry" she said faintly while wrapping her around in the middle.
"Relax Colton, she would be out soon" he motioned to himself while pointing at the kitchen. Evelyn raised her hands to him indicating that she can't cook as a patient, and he growled because neither could he as the only thing he does was place an order and that was for her. Evelyn scoffed at his choice, they were both going to walk down the town to get whatever she needed. Although, she would walk out of the room for the first time freely now and not as an escapee, it could be her last time here as this man was persistent in wanting her out of this place. Which of course was her desire but she was a ghost to the people, and she was going to wait until nightfall to speak with the latter. Evelyn carried her camera along with her to take pictures, and the sound of it clicks got Colton irritated. They got to the apex of town which wasn't far from the mansion she was locked up, even the Disney princess had a kind of freedom to fall in love, but she got contracted like a commodity.
" I want those scramble eggs and cheese over there!" She pointed out, running towards the direction of a middle age man who tossed a pan of scrambled eggs. Evelyn stamped her feet like a desperate child who demands something from her parents, she indicated with her fingers how many she wanted, and he did as instructed. To Colton, she was going to leave immediately before Alex figures out, but what he fails to realize was she was invisible. After her consumption, she requested for a tour around the place, her intentions were to get used to the surrounding for her advantage.
"What do you take me for?" He barked at her.
"Fine then, but what if I bump into Alex? Then what?" She threatened and he scoffed.
"He never comes out in the day or around lights" Colton mocked and Evelyn blinked at him shocked, and he sighed.
"You've heard more than enough, you're lucky, you would be leaving here alive" he furthered standing up.
"Why do you want me to leave all of a sudden?" She asked. They were seated by a round table of two when a girl asked
"May I take a seat?"
Colton glanced at Evelyn who grimace and the girl who was peering at him. Couldn't she see someone there?
"It's been taken, tell her" Evelyn whispered stressed out for the day because none of her plans were working and it was becoming a tradition.
"She isn't blind, is she?" He talked back.
"Excuse me…" The girl chipped in as Colton seem to be speaking with himself.
"It's been taken" he said, agreeing to Evelyn's words, and she walked away disappointed that she couldn't spend some time with her crush.
"It's time to leave"
"You don't have to remind me" she snapped, wincing as she faked tears.
"Am just a lonely girl who has no one in the world, and now I found myself here…". Colton didn't pay attention to the words that she blotted out, too sad those tricks doesn't work on him.
"Colton, are you even listening?" She eluded his thoughts and he shook in the negative aspect. Great, then seduction has to crop in, which is her second idea for him to let her stay. She blinked at him seductively and smiled pretty to ensure that she looks docile as possible. Inserting her hair in her eyes, she gazes up at him through her lashes.
"I find it comforting here, except if you have a way of making me visible then I would leave".
Colton glanced at her and looked away, was it one of her tricks in making her stay? Besides, she doesn't look like who would fall in love with Alex out of the blue.
"I'm not taking you in, don't make me do what you would regret".
That word hit her hard, it certainly shows he has no idea of making her visible except Alex, who is a mystery to be solved. Plan two failed, this man has no heart because nothing works on him at least, Alex listens, but Colton doesn't.
"I'm invisible, who is going to see me?"
"Stop making me talk, no you aren't"
"Yes I am!" She snapped back, embitter as she stood up to walk towards the baker who was opposite them.
"Look! I can pass through him!" She justified walking to and fro at ease as Colton was bewildered.
"This is a lot iller than expected" he muttered.
"You were meant to be dead anyway, so it's not a big deal if only he just left you there" Colton rants. Most of the people close by kept staring at him if he was a psycho talking to himself.
"If you make me visible, I promise I would walk away" she assured.
"It would be dead because staying over her draws you closer to the afterlife" he mocked, standing up.
"So do I stay…"
"No!" He snapped. A child who held a tray of desert suddenly drop it off from his hand due to Colton's intimidating voice that sounded like an echo. The child began to cry and gnashed his teeth
"So mean, say something or this girl won't leave" Evelyn petitioned and Colton glared at her while walking away, Evelyn ran after him as she pointed at bays that she found around this place.
"Do you come out often?" She asked, hopping around him. Her voice tormented him so much that he felt like strangling her to death.
"About night brute, why does he hate lights?" Evelyn pressed on hanging her camera on the neck.
"What if I could be of great help?"
"What are you scheming, lady? Few days you were all wild, and today you're acting all lousy" he winded up walking faster than she was.
"I'm a reporter, keeping silence makes me sick, you can't blame me but my job!"
"You should have never told me your profession" he uttered, and she became frighten. It wasn't safe having a reporter around, he removed the camera from her neck and ditched it to the ground.
"No!" Evelyn yelled, bending low to collect the broken parts.
"How could you!" She barked Madden as he seized her by the arm and haul her along with him back to her new-found home. He had had enough of her nuisance for the day and wouldn't let her cause another chaos. The sooner Alex learns of this, the better. Evelyn mourned over her camera, she just needed to step out and collect the pieces, perhaps it might function if repaired.
