Chapter 16

Alex glanced at her neck and let out a silent hiss. He couldn't see the pendant which Colton was so bent on, perhaps she might have lost it.
“Are you looking for this?” Evelyn suddenly question, swinging the necklace in her hand. His glare proved to her that it was certainly a yes; Alex intended to snatch it from her, but she hid it behind her.
“I can't give you, I made a promise” she said in between her teeth. Alex took a long glance at her and headed out, but her last statement made him pause,
“Thank you for coming after me”.
"It's best you don't tell me that” he snarled and left. Evelyn blinked her eyes and glanced at the pendant. Possibly, it could be this pendant calling out to him whenever she needed help or her imaginations were wrong. If he could be rude on her first step to win him over, then what was going to happen on her second step?
“He's the hard type, gosh I'm already having goosebumps” she confessed to herself. Even though it hasn't been up to some minutes that they spoke, she was already sinking in her breath.
“All that matters is that I'm alive” she said relieved. Evelyn hurried to the window while glancing beneath if perhaps Alex was standing there, but he wasn't, and she sighed sharply. She contemplated that her body was found by the lake and water might be the only way to return, then she would forfeit Colton's agreement.
“Lake” She mused and let out a mischievous smile, proud of herself for coming up with such ideas.
Colton sat by his desk, seriously focusing on a book when he heard a knock. If it were Alex, he would storm in rudely, and he presumes it was Evelyn. Was she trying to lure him? He shoved the idea and ordered her to get in, which she did immediately.
“If you were already in, why the formality?” Colton snapped, closing the book as he noticed her eyes were on them.
“I have a request…”
“I don't grant such” he interjects swiftly while staring at the desk.
“You're the only one I can talk to about this, for a moment, you were nice, and now you're making a fuss” she mocked, and he gave her a glare that made her step back a little.
“You have no choice than to grant my request!” She snapped, frowning, acting all innocent wasn't going to work on him, she just has to be tough.
“Are you threatening me”
“No I'm ordering you!” She frowned and Colton scoffed as they both stared at each other.
“What makes you think I would do as you say?” He interrogated standing from his chair which fell down, but Evelyn wasn't distracted by that.
“My sixth sense besides I hold what you need” she tabled with her shoulder-high. If only he knew, she was saying her last words in her heart with narrowed brows that were curious to hear his reply. Colton irked at her and bite his lower lips, surprised at how bold she stood to tame his words down.

The cool breeze swept across her face as she inhaled the air with a smile that escaped her lips. It was like though she had met with light in this place. Who knew there was a beautiful lake in this part of the world she found herself, the water dazzled as she saw her reflection wavering. She knelt close to the water and touched it while letting out a smile; however, those smiles faded when her eyes met with Colton who was kicking his foot at a rock gently. Evelyn didn't give a damn to why he was doing that, all she was concerned about was leaving this place. She was going to prove that she was more clever than they were.
“I'm coming home” she murmured and strolled towards Colton who raised his eyes to glance at her. A foot was on the rock as his arms were crossed, wondering why she intended to visit the lake.
“There's something strange behind you…like a wolf or something” she beckoned, and he dropped his foot. She swallowed hard as how he stared at her, his brow eyes which sparked more due to the sun's ray and his tanned skin made him look a fallen angel who lost his way and found her. He suddenly smirked at her, which drew her back to reality, there was no way he was going to fall for that.
“Wolves don't come around here” he snapped and trailed his eyes to the rock. Evelyn noticed that and decided to bring up a conversation relating to the rock.
“Are you obsessed with that rock?” She asked in a mockery tone.
“That's the only way to pour out my frustrations” he responded, and she scoffed just the way he does which made him stop. He was replying to her questions without him even realizing it. She knew he was annoyed with her and since he can't do any harm to her, it was best he vented it on the rock. That gave her a silly idea as she said;
“That won't work, it only makes you mad…” She paused and drew closer to him. Colton didn't look like someone who would pay attention to her words again but yet, she just had the perfect word that would change his decision.
“Once you gaze at the sun, let out a great yell, and it would work…check this out” she mused raising her head back and letting out a loud yell.
“Is that why you decided to come over here?” He questioned, riled up by her actions.
“Yeah… I mean there's no way I could get peace of mind in that house, so it's best here” she confessed shaking her head which she had brought low because the sun was scorching her face. She watched Colton closed his eyes, nodded his head and then shook it again.
“Let's go, the time is almost up” he responded, and she scoffed the same way he does again.
“You little brat! Stop doing that” He raged, furious that she was imitating him, but his actions did not move her. Rather she frowned at him for calling her a brat when she was just bringing out a suggestion that would suit her situation.
“Try it man, it would work except if you want to die of frustration” she stated sitting on the ground as it look like she was fond of doing that now ever since she found herself in that mansion. Colton peeped at Evelyn who was pulling out a strand of grass from the ground and then at the sun. He found that quite silly, but it could ease him since his heart was aching from this woman's words. It was a shock though because he never knew she could talk the way she was doing right that moment. It was a rocky area as Evelyn picked up and about to hit him, but he turned his gaze at her, which made her drop it with a wry smile.
“Do I need to scream out loud?” He unexpectedly asked and she nodded. Colton couldn't understand what this woman was doing to him, but he found himself wanting to give it a try. She hummed, beckoning on him to repeat what he was doing continuously, he hasn't screamed yet when he heard the bushes in front of him rattled.
“Stay back” he muttered, wanting to take a look at what caused the rattle in the bush. Evelyn knew she was the cause, while he was busy scrutinizing the scorching sun, she had thrown a stone in the bush to distract him, at least if she couldn't bang it on his head. Mission accomplished! She gazed at the sun which was swallowed by thick cloud, it was definitely going to rain as everywhere was turning dark. In a hast while she almost dipped her foot inside the water, someone pulled her back and swiveled her to himself while obstructing her view. Her head rested on his chest as she could feel his heartbeat slowly.
“Damn it!” She cursed pulling herself from him, and she was surprised at who it was this time and tried not to stumble.
“Trying to play smart?” He said. Evelyn groaned while staring at him in anger, she intended to take the left side, but he shifted to obstruct that path, she tried the right, but he was swift to obstruct there. She felt like though they were playing soccer, each wanting to dribble each other.
“I want to take a shower!” She tabled as she watched him placed his hands on the waist and they both scoffed.
“You can't get in the lake!” He barked at her, she was just freaking him out through the day.
“When you won't give me a lucid explanation, what's the point of asking?” She muttered, desperately wanting to get inside the lake. Colton suddenly looked up as it was turning dark, his face looked as though he was frightened over something, he lowered it at this woman who was cursing loudly at his face and said;
“We need to get going, he mustn't find us here” he whispered. She grimaced at him, usually, he takes her back without her permission, but now he was beckoning on her.
“No! I don't want to” she snapped, and he grabbed her hand as though she knew he was going to do that besides these men doesn't respect women and did everything on their own accord.
