Chapter 17

She managed to refrain from his hold this time around, but what was the use of trying when he carried her over the shoulder.
“I can walk!” She protested, kicking him with her foot. Evelyn wondered how her hard kick wasn't affecting, perhaps because of his body built as he walked fast towards the mansion. Once he got her room, he laid her on the bed, which made her heart palpitates as his hand was around her waist. The thought that rang through her mind was if she was a sex slave to these two men, as her eyes feared the unexpected. Why would Colton suddenly place her on the bed instead of dropping her on the ground, was his name written in the contract too?
“Don't mention anything about the lake to him” he warned, letting go of her waist. He could see how tensed her face looked like while her eyes searched him anxiously as though not certain about something. She quickly rose from the bed as he was an inch away.
“You can leave now” she said trying to catch her breath. He left just after her statement in a hast, which made her guess that he was avoiding Alex. It dawns to her that Colton had to save her from his wrath and cut her hair for reasons she was never really going to phantom for. Mostly they were talking informally rather than the formal way that they do which was weird, but she preferred his behavior of the day to that of Alex. There was absolutely a secret about that lake that might be attached to Alex, yet she sees it as the only way to return.
“This place is filled with so many secrets” she grumbled, perchance, Colton might open up to her if they got closer than expected. He climbed down slowly from the stairs, venturing for the study room where he knew Alex was going to be. He was soaked and glaring at something unusual while his arm bandaged, although stains of blood could be seen on it. The former had it in mind to ask how he got hurt there, but he knew no response was going to be given.
“How's she?” He asked, and Colton didn't give a reply. If he intended to know how Evelyn was, then he could check up on her himself.
“It didn't rain, and you're wet” Colton diverted, rolling his eyes to the walls.
“Do I need to answer that? It's the only way to restrain myself from eating flesh” he revealed pointing at the table which attracted Colton to what it was.
“Don't you think we should move from here?” He suggested and Alex grunt. In a hast, he rushed towards the cupboard opposite Alex and brought a portion, which he tossed to him. Alex placed the jar having the portion as scars began to appear on his neck, but they cleared off almost immediately when he took the drink.
“We can't hide forever” Alex said in a faint voice as he closed his eyes in pain.
“Isn't there a way we can get the pendant from her?” He furthered and Colton shooked his head negatively as his eyes bore sadness. Alex just didn't like been to gaze on with a clumsy commiseration, just the way Colton was doing at that moment.
“You can leave if you wish, besides I'm always by myself” Alex stated as Colton picked the ring which was what Alex pointed at.
“Where did you find it?” He divulged, not being bothered by what this man was voicing out indirectly. He was about to give the location when they heard a sound from upstairs.
“How many more things would she break while trying to escape?” Alex whinged, getting upset as that noise had distracted him from his initial discussion. Colton only shrugged his shoulder because he knew Alex was posing the question to him. It's not like he could read someone's mind or close to Evelyn, yet Alex always questioned him about that woman and expected an answer.
“I just don't want to see her!” He claimed, beckoning on Colton to do something about her noise. Colton seemed less bothered as this woman got them upset, yet they couldn't do anything about that because of the pendant.
“Rather than focusing on that noise while not, go ahead with the previous discussion”. Alex banged his hands on the table and intended to further in his discussion, but the sound was heard again.
“Oops, why do you keep falling?” Evelyn complained while trying to set the vase in her room, it was then she realized that it was broke, and she threw it to the ground just to get completely shattered since it was of no use. She got bored in this room, and wasn't willing to sleep. Who could probably sleep in this place where someone would unexpectedly show up to harass her. It was totally Alex she was referring to and talk of the devil, he appeared before her. Evelyn knew all lights went off whenever he was approaching her, she wondered when she would see this man she was contracted to in the lights.
“It's the vase, it slipped off” she said as though reading from a script. She hasn't been seeing him around lately and that was a relief to her because he was her worst nightmare. Furthermore, for her to utter those words, it shows that she knew why he was there.
“Did it really? I hate it when you mess up my things” he declared, annoyed that he had to leave his study room.
“It's my room, you should know I mess things up before abducting me” she murmured, but he could hear her clearly. Evelyn rolled her eyes, probably thinking of what he would say next when she saw that his arm was bandaged. She pondered if he always sustained injuries because he was often seen with a scratch. If he were some supernatural being, then it would have healed up, she just couldn't figure out which category this man belongs to. From her little stay to her, she had observed that most things here were paranormal, and she happens to be caught up in between. Evelyn bent slowly to pick the broken vase up and then suddenly advised;
“Your injury would get infected if it's not treated properly”
