Chapter 14

"please someone tell me I'm dreaming" she said sitting in the mud, she was going to develop a heartache in this state and yet some deity or whatever was saying this to her making her puzzled.
"Who are those men... mostly Alex? I don't believe in fantasies but I found myself here, what more is disturbing than that? I signed a contract which I had no idea what was written on it, have nightmares of wolves and bloodbath..." She complained not minding if whosever she was speaking to listens and finally she said;
"Why me? I'm just a reporter curious to know about what happens in the mountains and boom! I died and woke up here, it was best i died!" She raged rubbing her feet on the mud.
"Fine then, it's seems everyone around here keeps me in suspense, I promise I would get out of here with or without anyone helping me!" Evelyn declared while glaring at the necklace on her hand. If there was a way she could cut it off, then probably she would have done so.
"Protect it? I couldn't protect myself properly and now I'm asked to protect you, if I ever come out alive! I'm going to quit my job" she announced, while getting up on her feet but unfortunately, she collasped.

The darkness became damp as groan could be heared everywhere in a room disturbing the silent night. Alex shoved off the coat that was placed on him and sighed softly while staring at Colton who hid something behind him.
"Why do you have her hair?" He began as Colton swallowed hard. He wondered why Colton who wished Evelyn dead acted all strange.
"Where you going to take her soul?"
"You've got your answers" Alex snapped angry inside and Colton scoffed sadly.
"Why didn't you tell me the truth? About the curse?" Colton said placing her hair on the table. Alex glanced at it and gulped, what was Colton's reason of stopping him?
"Most times things are meant to be buried within oneself because not everyone is trustworthy". Colton blinked his eyes as he never expected Alex's reply to be somewhat cruel to him but at least, he should know who Alex was. Always giving orders and never considering his actions before executing them.
"I found something while surveying her room" he confessed and Alex shrugged his shoulder intending to further with his initial plans. He wasn't interested in what Colton was going to say as he had always been suspicious of this beta's moves.
"It's about..."
"Colton, why was blevine here? Only you and I knows the way around here" he diverted rubbing his eyes and stepping closer to Colton who became speechless.
"Your silence means a lot" he muttered with a daring glare.
"Why would I know? She attacked the human girl in the woods and I guess the reporter lead her here unknownly" Colton defended staring at Alex with a straight face. He pulled out his gloves and showed Colton his hands which made Colton flutter his eyes.
"Go on, you were saying something about her"
"She's the one" Colton furthered and Alex scoffed at him. Could this man be lying to him because he must have planned with the human over what he couldn't figure out? Besides, he spends more time in the day with her.
"Too bad, I'm not interested" Alex tamed holding the coat tightly and he felt his chest pouncing loudly. His statement baffled Colton who folded his arms, something must have instigated Alex to say that
"Don't you wish to see the light someday? That's why you always stare at the moon, you were way over heels for that human and now, you want to let go?"
"There's no point in trying when she doesn't obey instructions, we could get someone else..." He paused and studied Colton whose face seemed despair.
"What did you find in her room?" He interrogated trying not to show that he was hurting in the chest.
"The pendant" he mused and Alex widened his eyes while realizing his grip off the coat. Now he could see why Colton stopped him from taking her soul.
"Where's she?"

Her eyes squints when a liquid dropped on her head, she was cold and quivered. Here she was somewhere else with some enchantments ringing in her ears. She got to her feet and saw a ray of light once again directing her path through a tunnel. Where could she probably be this time around?
"Find her, she wouldn't have gone far!" A voice roared and she swallowed hard. This sound wasn't familiar to those two men who held her hostage as she could hear the whining of horses drawing close to her. There was time for her to speculate over what was going on right that moment as all that rang in her mind was to run for safety. She followed the tunnel steepily in a hast even though she was weak, the fear of staying alive made her strive. The stomping of feet grew louder and it was similar to what she had heard in the cave before arriving here.
"Found her!!" Another interjects and she could see arrows shooting at her, she ducked her head so as prevent been hit by one.
"Don't let her cross the sheet!".
"The sheet?" She thought as she could see that she was getting to the tip of the tunnel, however she was already surrounded. These men whom she saw looks like barbarian and definitely from the ancient times as they had armors and weapons which acted like a shield, they were in hundreds and clothed in grey. Panting hard and confused over how she found herself here from the field of flowers, Evelyn stared at the man who was certainly the boss over here, he had a scar at the tip of his left brow and looked vicious than the rest. He glanced at the necklace in her hand and irk a brow at her.
"Hand it over" he ordered collecting an axe from a huge man who stood behind him.
"Who are you!" She snarled gnashing her teeth and panting. It was time to summon courage, just when he was about to say a word, the horses began to whine raising their hoofs and falling off every soldier on its hunk. It caused a distraction and right before her eyes, a man in dark clothing appeared with a sharp blade. He glanced at Evelyn who stared back dumbstruck because this man always finds her.
"Get him!" The leader roared and the men ran in rage at him.
"Follow the tunnel out and don't look back" he whispered and she swallowed hard while doing as instructed, she didn't care how this man was going to survive the attack launched on him by those anger mobs.
Evelyn heaved a sigh once she found herself back at the mansion where she was kept hostage. She almost fell on her knees but bent slightly, everything happening to her was in circles. She swiveled slowly behind and found no one behind her, certainly she might be safer here than being outside. Her eyes met with Colton who hopped down the door stairs to meet with her and she cursed beneath her breath. It was dawn here and the sun had risen brightly, she has come to understand that these two had shifts for the day. He observed her and found the pendant on her hand which got him relieved. She didn't allow him to say a word as she knew what he was intending to do next which was giving her orders to get inside or perhaps threaten her. Evelyn dragged her legs pass him and then stopped, she noticed he wasn't glaring at her his usual way especially those his cold eyes that got her heart pouncing wildly.
"How did he find me out there?" She asked with a frown.
"That was Arthadal, the cage leads there" he suddenly responded and she looked shocked. Other days, he never replies to her.
"Arth...what?" She muttered and he peeped everywhere in this place as though inspecting the area for something. From fact that she gathered, the cage led her to a field which was an outskirt of this Arthadal, she had wasted much time in the field than expected perhaps that was why she collasped but why was she on a path that seems like a tunnel. The mud, while she collasped, she felt her body sinking down slowly, yet it was still confusing how those men knew she was there. It was werid and surprising as Colton explained to her. He totally wasn't himself, she thought.
"What led you there?" He asked. Evelyn was dumbstruck, this mansion leads to so many places that were unusual. Colton had interrupted her thought
"I don't know"
"What did the voice say to you?". She suddenly let out a scoff, if he knew what led her there why did he ask?
"I can't recall" she lied acting all witty while hiding the necklace behind her.
"There's a way out of here" Colton mumbled closing his eyes as though regretting why he utter those words. Evelyn became interested and she ran closer to him with a glimpse of hope. It was strange though why he was acting all gentle to her. Perhaps he had different phases and wasn't the way he appears to be outside.
"What way?". Colton shoved his gaze at her, he was going to do everything it takes to help Alex out but first, this woman's cooperation was needed.
