Chapter 6
Stomping down on this slippery mountain, Evelyn was bent on following the cat since it knew the way out of here. She was being flung by twigs, but that didn't matter, all Evelyn wished for were to get away from the hold of Alex because she doubts he wouldn't spare if he finds her. Evelyn cried as her eyes met lights that beamed from cottages around, her hope had risen high, all thanks to the cat who wasn't stopping in its race. Home at last, if she ever manages to get help from the folks around here. The two escapees hopped down the sloppy ground and arrived at a crooked road. A driver drove in a high voltage and Evelyn stood in the middle of the road absent-minded. The cat meowed loudly at her to get her alert, and before she could do that, something mysteriously happened, the car went through her as though she weren't even there. Hissing at Evelyn, the cat walked slowly towards the town, abandoning the amused woman who was finding it weird. An old man paced across the road, and she ran up to him and waved to seek his awareness, but he walked pass her, almost knocking Evelyn down with his crooked stick. Evelyn assumed it must be one of her imaginations that no one could see her. She scurries closely to the town intending to get anyone's attention, but none were responding as it seem she was invisible to them.
"No, it can't be" she lamented. Was she dead to this part and only those men including the cat could see her. Evelyn once again remained depressed as she wandered off to anywhere her feet led her too. Maybe only this place was affected, if she gets to another part of the countryside, they might notice her. Evelyn felt exhausted as she had walked out the energy left in her, she was hungry too and just on time found a seller who was locking up for the night. It had fruits displayed, and she picked anyone of her choice. Intending to pay, but she couldn't be felt or noticed, only that the fruits were vanishing one after the other which left the seller perplexed. When she was done with what her stomach demanded for, she trailed off from there, aiming to get out of the scenery. Her throat was drained at the sight of Colton, he had a cloak on to protect against the cold because it seems the rain was going to storm anytime soon. He was busy purchasing fruits from a woman who blushed at his sight, Evelyn swiftly hide behind a table and crawled away.
Max had come over to this the countryside to visit his grandma, he was going to leave anyway just that the rain might halt his drive. Evelyn had paced to the other side of the mighty hills, certainly she was going to find her way home from here.
"Max?" Evelyn muttered as she could see him a distance away from her, running to take shelter at a building which was more like a family house. Smiles got imprinted on her lips while treading towards him.
"Max!!" She called louder, drawing nearer. Tears of joy flushed down her face, moreover, she could now see someone who was close to her. She was standing right in front of him and attempted to hug him but rather pass through him as she could feel him.
"This can't be! Max! Can you hear me?" She yelled in his ear. Max felt a tingle in his right ear and rubbed it softly, perhaps it could be the wind.
"Am so scared max please…help" she furthered trying all she could to hold him or touch him, but the truth was, she is invisible to him. Max turned away and walked into the house, his grandma chuckled at him, he was fond of the wind whenever it blew and often stood by the balcony to watch it's swirling.
"Max…".
Her voice was faint as tears choked her, how could she get home if max couldn't see her? Evelyn stood in the rain watching as lights were turned off, mothers telling their kids stories, children scream at every thunderstruck and there she was beaten hard by the rain. Evelyn almost passed out, but someone held her from falling, and she buried her head on his chest, not minding who it could be. The man carried her in his arms as Evelyn's head rest snugly against his broad chest with closed eyes, and the man walked away.
Evelyn was silent, what was the need of returning home when she wasn't visible? She glanced at the man who had placed her in a different room, he was inspecting the sole of her feet which had swollen, and it cursed her to hissed in pain… His gloves were cold against her feet, she couldn't help but think on the reason this man who appears at night had them on all the time. Alex applied an oilmen on it gently and beckoned on her to lay down.
"May I know your name at least?" She stated, lowering her lashes at her feet.
"Alex" he muttered with no emotions.
"Please I promise I would do anything you want, just let me say my goodbyes to my mom, she is my all now" she pleads, and he let out a groan.
"You shouldn't have fall off that cliff at that hour" he mused glaring at her, his gaze was more terrifying than the former.
"The contract, what does it state, I never had time to read it out" she confessed as his look got intense. Evelyn was getting on his nerves with her questions because he hated giving a reply. Besides, her goal now is to win him to her side, if that could gain her access of becoming visible. She instinctively brought her knees up to her chin and hugged herself tightly as she swallowed.
"I'm thirsty" she demanded.
"Colton would get it…"
"Why don't you do that, I don't think he would make it" she snapped, wanting to frustrate this man who stood up to get one? Her bag pack was beside this bed of hers and she grasped her torchlight which had been revived. Tonight, she was going to see this man's face, she hid the torch behind her, and immediately he got in, she pointed its light on him. Gosh, he looked like one of the fallen angels, handsomely tempting that could arouse any lady. He covered his face with his elbow and grab the light from her. Smashing it to the ground, Alex tugged her hand and sneered at her.
"Never use the lights when I'm around"
"What do you expect me to do! I woke up from the dead only to figure out I'm married through a damn! Contract and I can't get to see the groom only at nights tell me, how many more women have you abducted to use as your sex toy!" She blasted. She wouldn't be silenced any more after all, she's dead only that she's stucked between the afterlife, so this annoying man could go to hell.
"Say something…are you speechless now?" She rants. Evelyn can't lie to herself as she held her heart in her chest, if this man was the only one seeing her, then it meant he could destroy her too. Alex licked his lips subconsciously, if only there was a way to quiet her from never speaking but just follow actions because her voice was ringing an alarm in his head.
"You placed yourself in this mess!" He hollered and she shuddered.
"Why don't you give me a clearer picture of the situation, I could help you with my influence" she negotiates coming closer to him because the only way to tame a man was to show affection which she was fighting hard to do?
"Sleep, it's going…"
"To be another day in prison, right? There's no way of escaping, since I am a ghost, you would find me anywhere I go" she interrupted frowning at him. Alex wasn't willing to reply, neither was this woman willing to back down.
"Watch and see who gets tired" she bragged and he squints at her while walking away. It hasn't taken a minute when Alex trod out of the room that he could hear her screaming and breaking thing. He hated when his valuables were tampered with, as he knew she was doing it on purpose.
"Where have you being?" He asked Colton who stepped into the house and when Colton almost uttered a word, he heard a sound coming out from a room.
"You brought her back? I thought you let go!" Colton yelped disappointed.
"Don't question my decisions, just follow as instructed"
"My guts about her are definitely right, she's bad energy…"
"Colton everyone is bad energy to you, there's something she has that could be effective" he explained and Colton smirked coldly.
"Kill her before she gets out of hand, she can't break the curse Alex, what happens if she finds out who we truly are?"
