Chapter 38
I went straight to the basketball court that Kiesha and I used to go to to watch the game of brother Gideon and a few locals who were also just friends.
I somewhat know how to play with ball; except for shooting. I always missed that thing, so thought the game wasn"t really for me.
I turned on the lights, then stood at the middle. Closed my eyes and stretched my arms sideways. This is the only safe place I could think of to spend a night for now. It was a close court, with strong gates at the front and back, where I entered. The case allegedly failed to be closed by the guardian. Good luck and the opportunity still suits me.
Maybe it's okay to stay one night here, even without saying goodbye to the head of the subdivision. I am not stealing anything anyway. There are no other thieves here, except for the only ball left.
I opened my eyes again. In a flash, I was spooked by an image of someone very familiar. Holding the ball I just mentioned. He's playing with it; the hawk-like eyes were only glued on me.
I was no longer surprised by its presence. Seems like a long time ago the scene was expected.
"Will you catch up?" I ask directly.
We met earlier on the way when I came out. He clearly saw how ugly my weeping side was. Now just stopped crying.
"No need, I heard everything." he swallowed on his bottom lip.
"Gossip," I whispered. That's just the open display of pretend annoyance.
In a sudden movement, he robustly threw the ball he was holding right on me. By instinct, I swiftly move aside, protecting myself from being hit.
"The strength of Zion Leander!" I sighed, then chased the ball to retaliate with a stone.
"You are good at coordination," he answered, ignoring my rampant.
"If you're just here to make trouble, you'd better get out," I reached as far as the other ring before finally getting the ball.
I dribbled it, followed with a little application of the skills I have learned from older brother Gideon and his friends.
My every move was slow. It's not good. It's just a simple game, a way to focus on something else memorable events of the past.
After doing that, I tried to put it in the ring. Case as expected, just failed. Not because of bad luck, but because Zion snatched the ball from his hand. He run away, dribbling it. Then effortlessly took a three points shoot.
"Notice you!" if only my arm had been longer, he would have received a strong blow today.
When I don't want a partner, he's here. But when I searched, I could not find any part of the university.
A few days have also passed since the annual foundation day celebration. The stuff toy he gave me was placed safely on my room. This is the new next to me to sleep with, and eventually became my favorite.
"There's nothing wrong in letting your feelings be heard," he uttered, ignoring my words again.
"I don't need your comment," I snorted.
Of course I need it. It's like realizing whether what was done was right or wrong.
My expression was enough, the mistake was also explained to the mother. But I was wrong on the point of answering it. As a child, parents deserve to be respected. I am not sorry about it, but I do feel bad.
I chased the ball again. I don't care about him ruining my trip, it will only cause trouble especially if he is shot.
"You suck at pretension Geline," he walked languidly towards me.
"What do you care?" I raised an eyebrow. When making sure to hide the ball behind so that he does not grab it again.
"This is mine," I boldly claimed.
His lips just creased in mockery. Brows shot up; in one swift move he closed the gap between us. He then wrapped his arms around my waist in a possessive manner, making my heart beat race.
"And this is mine," he said, almost a whisper.
I sighed violently. It seems that the brain has left the head because the mind suddenly went blank.
I don't know what to do, how to react?
All the way I do to avoid its eyes. With the feeling that you might fall if you stare.
"You're nervous," he blatantly said. "You shouldn't react like this to a man Neilani. You'll be damned ..."
He also walked away immediately. Wearing a malicious look and smile.
I managed to step back, before he could do another thing that could ruin my innocence, completely.
"How dare you ?!" I pretended to be angry. Even if only intense twitter is playing in the system.
"I dare you to punch someone the moment he does something similar to what I've done. That's how you protect yourself, baby girl."
Baby, what ?!
I was slightly taken aback by what I heard. He had to blink a few more times and tilt his head as he realized the last two words he had uttered.
Baby girl...
Baby girl?!
"Go home woman, you can never be safe here," he turned his back.
"Wrong baby boy," I retorted. "I'm safe here."
He was stunned and turned to me again. This time, he was the one who was surprised. But it was only for seconds; his gaze immediately went blank.
"Let's have a match then," he pointed the ball behind me.
"All right," I sure reply. "If I win, you'll leave me alone. If you win-"
"You'll come with me," before I could finish my sentence, he cut me off.
"Why would I?"
"I'll take you home."
"I don't ... I'm just here," I insisted.
"You will come with me."
It easily snatched the ball from me again. He was so good at snatching, as if has been used to it.
I was forced to play with it, even if I refused.
He got three points at the first round. Too relieved, no consideration for the stupid opponent.
In order to get points, I have to cheat. It's up to him what he says.
"Aray," I said then quickly bowed, as if my stomach hurt.
Believe it. Immediately approached, causing me to have the courage to grab the ball. Subconsciously, without a second thought I threw it forcefully towards the ring.
And for the first time, in the history of my life I also got points. Three points for fraud.
Nice one, Gee ...
I lifted a brow as I averted my gaze to him, feeling real proud.
"Good game, tsk!" he rake his hair with his fingers.
He has the ball again. This time I decided to play fair and serious.
He won in the third to fifth round. It's just one round and the game is over.
I was defeated, but still unable to give up. I had to make a proof, that I can also be good at basketball game. I'm not just any girl. I could keep up with men.
"When I win it again, you must state your crush."
"I don't have one," I answered quickly.
Things that aren't sure if there really isn't. Thinking about the abnormal changes of my heart's pace, it already had someone special living inside.
"Let's try it out then," he challenged again.
"Sure!"
You can never know my love interest.
He has the ball again. Now I"ve read its every move, all based on previous rounds of the game. He does think I am not a good guard, because I am just letting him pass. But this time, I'll make sure to take him by surprise.
Act it will pass to the right. A move that has previously been made as a deception. He then made a swift turn. Dribbling the ball, he tried to pass through me.
I was desperate to keep the identity of the person I wanted a secret. The only idea compelling is not to let him win.
I follow her every move, so as not to slip through. Eventually the tester shook, until he thought of throwing the ball from the stand. But before he could do so, I successfully snatch it away and get points.
To my delight, I was not on my own and jumped. I got it, I got it!
"No more confession tonight," I smiled sweetly.
Somehow the burden was eased because of what we were doing.
"But I still won," he raised an brow. "
"Whatever," I folded then slightly approached it.
"You're good," he gently tapped my head. As if a little girl, being praised for a job well done.
"I know," I looked down, hiding a complacent smile.
"It's raining," I looked up at the dark sky.
No stars, the yellow moon hides. Only pure darkness accompanied by a few drops of rain.
I spread my arms wide and felt each touch of the rain. The first drops one by one, until they multiply and become stronger. I remained on my ground, letting the cold breeze run through every part of my body.
Just now it happened to me again. Often staying at home, if it rains if you want to go out, you can't because it's always forbidden. I was born having low resistance to cold and rain. There's also a good reason why my parents don't let me take a bath here, but I'm stubborn.
"Here you are Gee," I heard Zi whisper.
He took refuge under a tree. But it is not enough to fully protect the body. You can still read whatever you try to avoid.
"You came here. Come with me ..."
I turned to his direction, unfolding a pristine smile. I think I just showed a smile and happened to meet someone I don't know very well.
I am still saddened by what I've done earlier. How can I forget it? Because mama answered this I am now, standing in the middle of the road. Currently feeling the tears shed by the sky.
There is nowhere else to go but the house of a lone best friend. That's all, don't bother him anymore. The night was getting darker and colder because of the rain. Kiesha is definitely in the dream place now.
I also don't have phone or money with me. Everyone was left at home.
I am so broke. But despite it, I still oddly found peace. Despite the mess, I discovered a reason to be at ease. The rain, temporary freedom, so with the person I never thought would be with me in times like this, Zion Leander Pilvera.
Moments later it also decided to approach. He looked up and closed his eyes, with his hands on his pants pocket.
I didn"t lose sight of his slight smile. Signal to enjoy the pleasure of the rain.
I was just looking up to his face; tracing all its beautiful traits. From his thick brows, long-curly lashes, narrow pointed nose, curved lips, added with his defined jaw, that mole on the side of his eye-
I was stunned and immediately looked away after he opened his eyes, straight towards me.
"It's kinda good," he uttered.
I just sucked. Embarrassed to stare at it. I can't meet his eyes cause it was too intense and superior for me. I feel like it will dissolve all of a sudden. It was as if it was a sin that he would both stare and secretly admire her.
The headlights of the car not far away grabbed my attention. Not because it was coming our way, but because of the music playing on its stereo.
It has this bop vibes that I couldn't pass through. I am challenged to dance even if it is not good.
Right in front of us the car stopped. Luckily, they weren't run over, they both had no intention of stepping aside.
"Why are you in the middle of the road talking?" the old man immediately asked as he got out of the car.
The music was still playing in the background. Things that are very hard to ignore.
Show the world you've got that fire (fire)
Feel the rhythm getting louder
Show the room what you can do
Prove to them you got the moves
I don't know about you,
"Hala, dad we're not talking," was not my own response.
"Aba, what?" it laughs as it looks around at us.
"I'm dating," Zi said.
I took a deep breath and turned around in shock. No way!
I didn't know he can pull such joke.
"Oh, it's really young people now. We meet everywhere."
"No, he's just kidding. We're here to have fun in the middle of the violent raindrops," I laughed awkwardly. It prevents the system from getting rid of the slightest feeling of shame.
Others told us. Maybe that"s what it"s thinking now.
"This is what we called low-kay dating po."
What the-
He's muttering!
I simply reached for its side and pinched, causing her to grim slightly in nagging pain. He then swifty caught my wrist, halting me from hurting him even more.
It shook, then narrowed its eyes at me. The lip was gently brought closer to my ear. I slowly walked away, wondering.
"Tyansing you too much on my abs Neilani," he whispered.
I was still maliciously glared. It seems to be said that someone like me is too vulgar to be a woman.
"Oh, I suddenly remembered my youth because of you ..." smiling, the old man entered the car again to increase the volume of the stereo.
"All right, I'll leave you first," he then picked up a small carton, as he hurried into the opposite house.
"Low-key dating huh? Kuyawa uy," from the old man, my gaze shifted to Zion.
It is obvious in the act how it slightly moves the body to the accompaniment of music. He was also tapping his foot, following the pace.
Just stop right away too. It just seemed to be quiet and doing nothing else.
He stood up straight, then looked away, avoiding my eyes. It was too late to be shy, my two eyes saw for themselves how he moved the music.
"You're dancing," the words I would have thrown out were automatically erased from my mind.
His simple gesture got me mesmerized.
"I am not," he lifted a brow and licked on the side of his lips. Became arrogant again.
When you finally let go
And you slay that solo
'Cause you listen to the music
Sing, oh, ey, oh
"'Cause you're confident, babe
And you make your hips sway, "I sang along as I started moving my hips side by side.
We knew that you could do it
Sing, oh, ey, oh
Show the world you've got that fire (fire, baby)
Feel the rhythm getting louder
I tried provoking him; thinking that I could pass the vibe. I raked my long hair using my fingers, then looked at him intently.
Maybe it won't work if I go with a little fire. I decided to forget my irritation earlier and proceed to this dancing session.
This is a whole new level of me. I felt really uncomfortable at the moment. But at the same time, there seems to be no intention to stop. My body was totally refusing my conflicting thought. It has its own brain and decision, it is very difficult to control.
Show the room what you can do
Prove to them you got the moves
I don't know about you,
I pointed at him, followed with a smile.
But I feel better when I'm dancing, yeah, yeah
Better when I'm dancing, yeah, yeah
And we can do this together
I bet you feel better when you're dancing, yeah, yeah
I lifted my arms up and swayed on each side. With my feet and hips, moving on its own track.
I like it. I felt so alive! It looked like a princess a few people trapped in the dusty and old hallway. Only darkness is seen, while pleading sobs are often heard.
But eventually the moment of freedom also came. This is ...
I never thought I could do something like this, knowing how distant I am to new experiences.
This is the real Geline Neilani. The one who dances randomly in front of her heart's threat, the one who smile's this purely, and the one who can also act impulsively.
I just discovered myself ... Wow!
Zion was ashamed to rub her forehead. Shake it away, unable to watch what I was doing.
"I think it's demonized with me," he said before walking away. Every step is fast, determined to leave.
He was not heading to our house's direction. It goes outside the subdivision.
How do I do this? I don't have any companion anymore. Shall I change the song to a mellow one? Looks like I"m going to get to the drama now.
I stopped dancing. He combed his wet hair again, then headed. I must have expect he'd offer a roof to stay for tonight.
Where shall I go? It's not possible to go home, especially now that it's so wet. I'll just be scolded even more there.
I was expecting when mama would say that I was going to run away, but I couldn't be laughed at. I am still a weakling, so naive at real life experiences. It is different when looking at real life testing on problems to be solved in the academic field. The gap is very wide. Science, mathematics and logistics quest isn't that challenging, compared to reality.
The noise of the motorbike suddenly aroused my dismayed spirit. I looked straight at the subdivision's exit gate and immediately saw Leander, riding on his bike.
I remember he often left it at the guard house. A few owners of neighboring houses often complain about the noise.
"On board," he coldly commanded.
"Where are you taking me?" humalukipkip ako. Supposing, to pretend to be difficult to tame.
You didn't seem to dance in front of that before, did you, Neilani?
I shook at my own thought. I am now officially a great liar! The number of points I have in hell, I think it will be second to Kiesha.
"You don't want to go home, do you? You'll have to stay at home first," he glared.
I think he's the only one I know who offers help, but it seems to be against his will.
"Speed Geline, you're so wet oh," his gaze dropped to my chest. Slightly swallowed and simply devalued.
I've looked at it too. First notice the color of the bra. With the thinness of wearing a t-shirt, I failed to hide my underwear. It's as if I've already undressed it, my God!
"What if someone else sees you like that altogether? You've really taken a bath," he criticized in a sarcastic tone. When he simply took off the t-shirt he was wearing and threw it at me.
"Wear that. You don't go being bold on the street, tsk!"
All I could answer was an evil stare. He was openly smeared, before putting on the dress. I like this idea alright? But he can never know ...
From the irritated face, my eye dropped to its exposed body.
That flattened stomach is dotted with eight pack abs. His chiseled chest and masculine arms looks really hard. Harder than what I remember from the first and probably last time I saw his all. That V-line from his waist downward, made me remember it ... Until now it is still clear in my mind. Things that if lucky I would have completely forgotten.
The raindrops falling from his hair down to his really handsome face, made him look like an art underneath the pouring grace of water coming from up above. He was the only one I saw even though he was still frowning handsome.
When I realized that I had no intention of getting on the back of the motorbike, he pulled me over. Seated at the front, prevented from losing an arm immediately wrapped around my waist.
"Hey, it's not allowed-"
My next release screamed loudly when he suddenly pulled the motor away from the area.
I still wouldn"t have had to ride this kind of transportation, there was still intense fear. In order to somehow be complacent, I clung tightly to his neck and buried my face in his chest. While repeatedly seeking guidance from God. May we be safe.
The flight took only a few minutes. I remember in the very alley we were walking today also entered when the opponents were chasing me from the disrupted gambling.
He was indeed living here before, until now?
He turned the motorbike on the side of an even smaller road. I was lowered first, making sure not to stare and there was still a ditch on the side, before turning off the engine. Then go down as well.
"Walked straight," he commanded.
We walk in. A few men drinking and laughing were the first to be spotted when they finally reached the right place. This place was too secluded to be a normal residence. Judging from its ambiance and the people around, I think without Zi I can never be safe here.
I didn't know there was such a place. The thought was just a simple alley. There are a few occupied in the passing houses outside. Aside from them, I can't think of any locals living within the area anymore, until I got here.
"She's nice to be with you, isn't she Cold?" excited droning of the first man to notice our presence.
It has so many tattoos, it reaches the hairless head.
Violent rains and leaks from the old roof did not deter the occupants. Everyone is doing their own thing, from the first floor to the top. Some were simply joking, playing the guitar, talking, arguing, playing, while others were watching us following the whisper. Also, gossip will not go away.
"Don't you ever touch him," Zion replied with mixed threats.
"Oh, it finally hit our kid too!" they laugh at the next roar in the environment.
What kind of place is this?
"Don't mind them," he suddenly grabbed my wrist. I was pulled up a nearby staircase up to the second floor.
We stopped right in front of a wooden door. It is old and dilapidated. Just a push open immediately.
To be continued...
