Chapter 16: Ben's such a dick!
It was 8:30PM. Ben was still with me in the hospital room. I've earlier asked him if he knew what happened to my unconscious hospital roommate, he'd replied with an "I don't know, he was here when you were admitted into the room".
The drip which had been fixed on my arm was finished and I stood up from the hospital bed freely before I walked to the room window. I opened the curtains and stared at the black night. New York City always looked like day time when it was night because the city never sleeps. But from where I stood in the room, I couldn't see any of those lights that made the city shine at night.
I had earlier called my mother to tell her I wouldn't come home because I was spending the night at Ben's house. She'd sounded worried over the phone, probably because I have never spent a night outside of home before. I even had to make her talk to Ben before she could believe that I was really at their house. She had even asked to talk to Mrs Faircliff but I told her that something came up and ended the call.
"Who brought me to the hospital?" I asked Ben.
He was sitting on the hospital bed I'd earlier laid on and my voice seemed to have brought him out of a trance.
"It was a man who drove a Lexus car." He replied; wearing a sad face like he was missing somebody.
"Do you know him?" I asked with my eyebrow raised.
"No of course, you and I know that I don't know many rich people."
"Then why did you let him carry me in his damn car?" I exclaimed; the anger and irritation I felt due to losing the fight against Black jacket man was evident in my eyes.
Ben looked shocked and disappointed, the expression on his face showed that he would never imagine me shouting at him even in his dreams.
"What do you mean by why I let him carry you?" He suddenly fired back, getting up from the bed.
"Maybe I should have told him "No" and let you die slowly from the injury on your…"
Bang, Bang, Bang! A sound at the door interrupted.
"Who's there?" Ben asked, raising his voice more than usual even though he obviously knew who was at the door.
"It's the nurse." A voice said from outside.
Ben walked to open the door since he was closer to it and I strolled back to the bed and sat down so I could hear what the nurse came to say.
"Any problem?" Ben asked her.
"Not really, I just came to drop the pain relieving tablet that was prescribed to bed 2 patient by the doctor." She said while trying her best to glance inside the room in which she couldn't do so at last because Ben was blocking her with his body and he hadn't opened the door completely.
Ben opened his mouth to speak but I beat him to it, "Go back and tell the damn doctor that I'm fine and don't need a fu*king pain relieving drug."
I heard a gasp from the nurse and Ben turned to look at me in shock. "You just insulted a nurse who's almost fifteen years older…" Ben didn't get to finish the sentence because the nurse ran away from the door and it seemed like she was crying.
Ben closed the door before he severally clapped his hands to my doings. "When did you lose your manners, Lucian?"
"I didn't fu*king insult her, I only told her the truth."
"There you go again." Ben replied. "You've started using swear words for all your sentences that would do well without them. Are you really so angry because you lost a fight to the black jacket man at the bar?" Ben asked; staring at my face to see my reaction. "Dude, the man is almost thirty if not even thirty. Did you expect a nineteen year old guy to win a fight with another guy who's ten or more years older?"
"What are you saying?" I replied. "Age doesn't mean a thing, and I don't remember telling you that the lost fight is the reason for my anger."
"Okay then." Ben said, dropping his hands to his side's like he was tired of arguments. "What is the reason for your anger?"
I looked at Ben before I said, "The fact that nobody in the bar could hold down the man 'till I got conscious."
Ben looked at me like he could barely believe my reason. "Just because of that?" He asked with an eye roll.
"What really happened after I got unconscious?" I curiously asked.
Ben walked to sit down on the bed with me before he started, "Black jacket man put on a shocked and worried face like he had been afraid and he didn't want you to pass out, though I knew that he really hated you when I saw the look in his eyes."
"He raised up his hands like he was surrounded when you fell to the ground," Ben continued. "He started talking loudly so everybody could hear that you attacked him first and he fought back as a form of self defence. The only thing I'm confused about was how he manipulated everybody to forget about his claws that came out when you both were fighting."
I thought about what Ben said in my mind. *Could it be that he had a special ability of making people forget things?*
"Black jacket man left soon afterwards, nobody bothered to follow him to the door and I wanted to confront him but helping you was the most important thing at that moment.
*You weak and chubby guy, what would you have done?* Luca said and I tried my best not to laugh.
"I walked up to you and tried dragging you from the floor after paying for our drinks. I couldn't carry you because of your weight and that was when the Lexus owner came to me and offered to help." Ben paused, he looked at my expression before he continued. "I had not seen him in the bar when we were drinking and now that I think of it, I think it's very strange. The man's aura spoke power and he had a familiar atmosphere following him but I was pretty sure he wasn't a werewolf because he wasn't putting on a black jacket like they did."
"He helped me carry you to his car before we drove off to this hospital which is the nearest and he spoke to the doctors in my presence and paid your bill. I thanked him very much but he said not to mention it."
"Then he pressed a thousand dollar bill in my hand and hurried out like he was being chased." Bob finally finished.
"And out of all these, it didn't occur to you to ask for his name or business card if he had one?" I asked; slightly irritated by Ben's stupidity.
"No, it didn't occur to me." He replied while bending his head to look at the floor.
"You're such a dick!" I exclaimed.
