Chapter 25: Meeting my guardian

The normal (Lucian's P.O.V)

It was December thirteenth, a beautiful Wednesday morning. I turned on my bed and wished I could persuade my mother that I was sick and she'd say I shouldn't go to work anymore, but that would mean that I'll be forced to take medicines which I hated like a plague. I even preferred injection needles poking into my skin than for the bitter taste of tablets to pass through my tongue.
Kpo, kpo! I turned my face while still on the bed to see who was knocking. "Come in mom!" I suddenly said when I perceived her smell.
"I came to drag you out of your bed and you're telling me to come in." Mom said from outside before she barged into the room. She froze with a look of surprise and I caught the look in her eyes. I stood up from the bed and looked at her direction to see what made her so spellbound.
"What the fuck!" I said and dragged up my trousers in haste after realising that I was almost naked. She shook her head and said, "You're supposed to be starting your job today, why're you still trying so hard to get out of bed?"
I wasn't prepared for an early morning banter with my mother so I walked to the bathroom to clean up. I was done in almost twenty minutes and followed my mom to the dining room so we could eat. She wished me luck after eating and I left the house to go to Blue Crystal's. It wasn't very close if one was trekking the distance, and I half heartedly wondered why I didn't feel pain in my body when I was trekking to the company on monday.
I was wearing a light brown suit with a black tie. My white skin was glistening at the rays of morning sunshine and I had more boldness and courage compared to wednesday. The security men at the door recognised my face but still, I showed them my work ID card which had been given to me by Mr Maxwell with pride and admiration and they practically let me in without scanning my body for concealed weapons.
I perceived the scent of the woman that introduced herself as Sarah Wilson to me. I continuously sniffed with my nose to check if I could know the exact place that she was, but the smell suddenly stopped. I shaked my head in irritation as I looked around the reception hall. I saw people in ques still struggling to get an interview for a job and I couldn't help but thank my stars that I was lucky to get a job on Monday even when many other people didn't. I looked right and left as I wasn't informed by Mr Maxwell where my office was and if I'll work alone or with some people.
I finally decided to go to Mr Maxwell's office on the fifth floor and ask that he'd direct me to the graphic designers office. I walked to the stairs and up into the elevator, the door was about to go close when Sarah Wilson walked in briskly and joined me inside the elevator.
"Aren't you the person that was interviewed by Mr Maxwell on monday?" She asked me even though her voice tone sounded like she clearly knew it was me.
"Yes, I am." I finally managed to say.
"What are you going to do on the fifth floor?" She asked with a voice of curiosity.
"What's your business about what I'm going to do? Is this your damn job in this company? Going around and asking people stupid and pointless questions and expect them to answer you."
"How dare you!" She exclaimed, clenching her fists in rage. "Do you know my position in this company? I'm the third most important person and you're just a poor and worthless last-teen who's looking for a job to make ends meet. I'm gonna make sure that Maxwell doesn't give you this job."
"What if I tell you old…" I paused. "I don't want to have a bad reputation on my first day of work, so I think I should inform you if you didn't know that Mr Maxwell gave me the job on monday."
"He did what?" She said the elevator suddenly stopped and opened. I started walking through the halls to Mr Maxwell's office and I noticed that Sarah Wilson was following me at my back. I wondered how the company was organised, mostly because I've never seen the place and machines they use in designing their game characters.
I finally got to Mr Maxwell's office and knocked. I didn't hear a reply and I felt that someone was behind me. "Sarah Wilson?" I asked; turning my head and it was indeed her.
"Where's your boss?" I asked with a mocking tone. She didn't reply to me as she simply passed me and swiped her card on the office's door. The door opened with ease and she walked in. I took a peek in the room and saw Mr Maxwell lying down on his back on a soft leather chair, he was wearing sunglasses like always and his chest was bare leaving him with only the expensive khaki shorts that he was wearing.
"Mr max?" Sarah Wilson called. "Mr max!" She shouted his name for the first time with anger.
Mr Maxwell still didn't bulge and that was when I knew that something was wrong. I briefly closed my eyes and listened to all the sounds I could hear in the company, the reception hall, the fifth floor, and then the office room we were in. My sharp senses detected that Mr Maxwell was playing loud music with a small and almost invisible bluetooth device.
I said to Sarah Wilson in a low voice, "He's wearing a bluetooth device." She looked at me for a moment before she went to Mr Maxwell's ear and removed one of the tiny bluetooth devices from his left ear and Mr Maxwell jumped out of the chair in fear.
"Why in the fuck world are you both here?" He asked while on the ground. "I really think you'd like to put on some clothes before you shout at us." Sarah Wilson replied. Mr Maxwell looked at his naked and bare pot belly and shouted in horror. "I'm going to fire both of you today, why in hell did you not knock?"
"We did knock, but you seemed too busy enjoying yourself being half naked and with bluetooth devices fixed on your ears." I replied.
Mr Maxwell nodded his head as a way to admit that he was wrong before he commanded, "Turn your backs!"
Sarah Wilson and I turned our backs and he informed us that we could face him after about seven minutes had passed. I looked at him and saw that he was now dressed in the business way. He didn't only wear a suit but also changed the Khaki shorts to a black suit pants.
"Why are you both here?" He asked, pulling off his sunglasses.
"I'm here because I'm your PA and secretary." Sarah Wilson replied without a sign of nervousness. Mr Maxwell nodded his head and looked at me like he also wanted me to state my reason.
"I'm here because you told me to, on monday." I said,
"I did?" He asked in surprise. "Me, Mr Maxwell, told you to come to Blue Crystal on Wednesday? I'm sorry, I don't remember that."
"You did say I should come on Wednesday!" I defended myself. "And I can even show a proff." I brought out the ID card that was given to me by Mr Maxwell and showed it to him as a proof.
``Why's my name branded here on the ID if you didn't give me the card?"
Mr Maxwell carefully observed me with suspicious eyes and said, "I remembered that you were here on monday, and that we were talking about yourself in a job interview, but I really don't know what happened next. I don't remember giving you any card and telling you that you've gotten the job you applied for.
Sarah Wilson coughed and my head and Mr Maxwell's turned suddenly to look at her. The way her eyes shifted when we looked eyeball to eyeball was enough to convince me that she had a hand in Mr Maxwell forgetting that he employed me.
"I'm tired of talking, just come and show me the graphic designers room, that's the job I applied for if you haven't forgotten that also."
Mr Maxwell shook his head like he was pained before he signalled for Sarah Wilson to take me to the graphic designers room. We both came out of Mr Maxwell's office room and walked back to the elevator. Sarah Wilson pressed the six button and the elevator took us to the sixth floor. The elevator got open and that was when I saw the real beauty of Blue Crystal. We were on the official gaming floor. The wall's colour to the chandeliers and different lights and countless decorations used to decorate the game floor made it look like some kind of earth paradise.
I followed Sarah Wilson to a wide door that read "GRAPHIC DESIGNERS" and she pushed open the door without knocking. The view I saw was just so breathtaking, the room was large and the sophisticated way it was arranged made my love for graphic designing to increase…

I was going back home from work with a smile on my face like I just won a lotto. I suddenly loved my mother the more for advising me to go look for a job. I wouldn't have met the wonderful people I met in Blue Crystal's if I hadn't listened to her advice.
I soon got to a place where the people there were as few as five, and at one instant, I felt like somebody was following me. I continuously turned my back to see who it was but the figure disappeared anytime I turned back. Luca hadn't talked to me since the day he mistakenly mentioned that my biological father was dead so I couldn't ask him who was following us.
I heard the sound again and I turned my back. This time, the figure didn't disappear like before. He stood still with a serious expression on his face. He was terribly good looking, approximately thirty-eight to fourty even though his facial features were that of a twenty-five year old. And most importantly, he was wearing white.
"Who…are you?" I asked with a little fear.
"Your guardian!"
