Chapter 28: Visitor

We were done with cleaning the mess thirty minutes later. The time was about 7:40 PM and I still hadn't gone home. I felt irritated and guilty thinking of the fact that we've killed seven human beings. Call them what you want, but I'll continue to feel irritated because the wolves could turn to humans. And what if one of them was a female? I felt a shiver run down my spine as I thought of it.
My guardian, Alpha Zaver, discussed with Beta Kim and they both decided that we should throw the body of the werewolves into the thick buses they came from. But we should make sure to dispose their bodies in different places in the bush so that they'll not be together. Because according to him, they might generate the strength and power to wake up from death if they were all disposed off together. I opened my eyes in shock when I heard him say it. "Are you kidding me right now?" I had asked him.
"No, I'm not. Why?" He replied with a knowing face.
"You want us to throw off their bodies without burying them? What if they are found by someone who decides to call the police for a report of animal abuse?"
Beta Kim flinched when he heard the word "Animal."
"They're not animals and you know that! As for their bodies, it will decompose and turn to a form of dark sand after some hours and anybody who mistakenly goes there will only see the soil." Alpha Zaver looked at his watch as he said it.
"And their dead bodies will only turn to sand if their purpose of attacking us was for evil!" Beta Kim chipped in.
I furrowed my brows in confusion and asked, "What if their purpose of coming to attack us was for good?"
"Why're you thinking like a sluggish fool?" Alpha Zaver said to me with his teeth clenched like he was very annoyed. "After everything, you should be smart enough to know that they're not our friend but enemy."
Beta Kim replied to my question with the seriousness of a person who hadn't heard the Alpha. "If their purpose of attacking us was for good and we are the antagonist, their bodies will remain fresh and would never go rotten even if their corpse stays there for years."
I felt my heart run out of my ribcage when I heard his reply. So that was what happened to the black werewolves that attacked me and Ben? Their bodies got turned to soil and vanished because their purpose of attacking us was bad.
Now, I was alone, walking back to my house. I'm quite surprised that my mother hadn't called me even when it was almost eight. Alpha Zaver and his Beta had left some minutes ago, he tried to persuade me to come with him to his house so he could start training me. But I don't trust him enough and that was exactly what I told him.
I scolded myself when I remembered that I didn't ask Alpha Zaver the countless questions I had in my mind. I wanted to ask him what the war was about… why he needed to train me and why I saw him in my dream. He didn't make any remark of how he was the white wolf who saved me and Ben, and I spanked myself the more for forgetting to ask him.
I finally stopped at my house entrance. The night was cold and quiet and I still found it hard within myself to believe everything that happened today. My guardian was the complete opposite of what I had expected. He behaved too mean and harsh like it was a curse for anybody to see him near me. But then, he was an Alpha. I reminded myself before I started walking into the house. The outdoor lights shone brightly like never before, and the voice of a woman in the music stereo in the house quietly sang a heartbreak song.
That was strange. Mom never listened to music, I was practically the only person in the house who made use of the music stereo. And I never even listened to loud music if my mother was around, cause she'll come shouting and screaming at me to turn down the music volume.
My eyes turned around the house as I wanted to find a clue of what changed. It seems like we had a visitor. But who? Was it the company of the visitor that made my mother not call me?
I suddenly opened the front door and the first thing I perceived was the smell of something burning. It was coming from the kitchen, smelled very much like when you left hot oil for an hour while gossiping outside with a friend. Mom never cooked burnt food, and the scent of a different perfume in the air made me very sure that we had a visitor.
I walked past the photos of my mother and father on the wall and passed the dining room to the kitchen. And indeed, I saw a girl of about twenty running like a headless chicken around the kitchen. Her hair was tied in a bun like she was just coming out from a bathroom so I couldn't see the colour. She was about an inch or two shorter than me, her legs thin and slender like she was an athlete. She was wearing a blouse and skirt I would tag as inappropriate, her fair skin glowed as a result of the kitchen light and she seemed to be looking for something.
"Who the hell is her?" I muttered to myself. *"Oh! You mean, who the hell is she?"* Luca corrected.
I didn't care, what the hell she was doing in my kitchen is the major concern now. And… was she that badly trained on cooking that she'll almost burn a house on the first time she is there. I shook my head in irritation and walked out through the dining room before she'd notice my presence.
What I needed was to see my mother. Where was she? I was quite worried because she was always inside the sitting room of our house anytime I came back from an outing.
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when I checked her room and didn't see her. Her door wasn't locked with a key and I silently prayed in my mind that she wasn't crying near my late foster father's grave again. I was about to go to the kitchen to drag out the cooking girl and question her life before I noticed that the door to our back garden which was almost seven feet from my mothers room wasn't bolted. Does it mean that she was outside in…the…garden?
I didn't wait to consider the possibility before I ran to the door and opened it with haste and another emotion I don't know of. I stepped outside once again into the cold night before I froze.
