Chapter 20
The next day on my way to work, I was just walking on the side of the road. According to common sense, Brian should have already left at this time. However, a black Bentley stopped right in front of me.
"Get in." He rolled down the car window.
I stood there, pretending not to hear.
He glanced at his wristwatch, lowered his voice and said, "There's still half an hour left. It's difficult to catch a taxi here. I don't want your team leader to catch you being late, so get in the car."
"He won't." I smiled at him.
The next second, I called an Uber and waited for it to arrive.
But I was still late when I got into the company.
"Vanessa, if you come out this late again next time, you'll be laid off." My team leader scowled at me in anger.
"Team leader, please calm down. With you here, I definitely won't be late." I flattered him.
His expression visibly improved.
After arriving at the company, there was another meeting. Brian was there again.
"What's been going on with the boss recently? Why is he paying so much attention to our team? Could it be that he wants to promote me?" My team leader worriedly furrowed his brow.
"Is it possible that he's targeting you?" a colleague asked.
"Get lost!" my team leader suddenly became angry. Help, I feel nervous whenever he sits there."
"Same here," I said.
"Don't you all like to look at handsome guys? Now that you've got your fill, you can't handle it anymore?" My colleagues complained endlessly.
Actually, I was also feeling a bit frustrated. I felt like he was targeting me even more. During the meeting, every time I looked up, I saw him looking at me. This time, I didn't bother to hide and stared back at him without backing down.
So, while my colleagues passionately spoke above, our eyes silently battled in the air. In the end, he gave up, lowered his head, and suddenly smiled. What was he laughing about?! I clearly won, but his laughter made me lose my confidence.
The next second—
Ding...
$5,000 was transferred to my bank account. With a message attached, "Take a taxi yourself, don't get into other men's cars anymore."
The air suddenly froze. Because I had set up a voice notification for money received. Now, everyone in the conference room knew that I had received $5,000 in my bank account.
