Chapter 35

The wedding was next week. He was very good to me. But he remains restrained, clearly separating work and love.
He completely embodies a man's desires at home, but at the company, he maintains an icy and aloof boss demeanor.
I suspect that he has a split personality; otherwise, how could he be so clear and always so calm?
In the company, my team leader's moods are unpredictable. He scolds me every day because of the plans I made.
"Vanessa, it's not that I'm saying this about you, but when love is gone, you should focus on your career and strive to excel."
"Okay."
"Go and revise it again."
"Alright."
I took the proposal back to my seat and spent the whole morning making revisions, without even having time for lunch. Brian is away on a business trip again. I feel pitiful.
By the afternoon, my team leader looked through it and gradually smiled, "You're quite intelligent indeed. Show it to the Boss."
Looks like he's satisfied.
"Oh, isn't he supposed to be out of town?"
"He came back early. I bumped into him in the elevator just now."
"Oh."
I didn't refuse. I took the proposal and went to find him. It's been a week since we last met, and I kind of miss him. But in the office, he never shows any ambiguous behavior towards me. Thinking about his cold attitude, I feel a bit sad.
I knocked on the door, entered, and found him buried in documents. See, that's how cold he is.
"This is the new proposal. My team leader asked me to show it to you." I handed him the proposal.
"Okay, leave it there." He didn't even lift his head or look at me.
I got so angry. I put down the proposal and started walking out, but then I heard his voice from behind.
"Close the door."
I was taken aback.
"And lock it while you're at it."
Now I am really wondering why.
I didn't know what he was up to, so I obediently closed the door. But when I turned around, his tall figure was standing behind me. He raised one of my hands and used the other to turn the door lock, locking us inside.
"You..."
"I missed you so much." Before I could respond, he kissed me.
"Why do I miss you so much?" he whispered sweet nothings in my ear.
My heart melted, and it started beating heavily.
Afterwards, he let me go and, satisfied, returned to his seat.
"You've become... bolder and more... brazen," he said.
Blushing, I scolded him.
But he just calmly continued reviewing the documents, "Otherwise, why do you think I came back early?"
In my heart, I cursed him: "Dirty scoundrel."
"After work, wait for me, my wife, okay?"
"Okay."
After calming down for a while, I still couldn't settle my emotions and left with the documents. Just as I sat down at my desk, my team leader came over.
"Vanessa!" I jumped, startled.
"What... What's wrong?" I stuttered in fear.
He looked me up and down, getting angrier, "You were asked to show a proposal to the Boss, but where did your lipstick go?"
"I... I..."
I'm doomed! My soul has left my body! Seeing that the truth was about to be exposed, I nervously started feeling my scalp tingling.
"Did you go to the pantry to sneak and eat again? That's why it took you half an hour to show a proposal."
"You disappoint me so much. How can you be so useless?"
"If you don't want to work, then quit!"
As he suddenly got angry, my colleagues gathered to watch the commotion. I felt hopeless.
Then, when I looked up, a figure suddenly appeared before me. Brian stood at the entrance of the door, leaning casually against the door frame with his slender body.
He nonchalantly asked, "I ate it, do you have a problem with that?"
Roar!
YES!
Everyone instantly turned their heads towards the source of the sound and were shocked to see Brian, their mouths wide open.
"Boss...what is this?" My team leader was completely at a loss.
Just as the colleagues exchanged intense glances, wearing expressions of "we understand, we understand,"
Brian took out a stack of invitations and threw them onto the table.
"Next week is the wedding banquet, everyone is welcome to attend."
"No monetary gifts required."
After speaking, he came over and held my hand, and said to the stunned team leader, "Can I borrow one of your subordinates to have lunch? Is that okay?"
"Fine...sure...fine!" My team leader was directly frightened and kept staring at the ground.
But Brian paid no attention and proceeded to lead me outside like a gentleman gently.
