Chapter 26

When I got home in the evening and opened the door, I noticed a pair of high heels at the entrance. My heart skipped a beat.
Then, I heard an argument coming from the living room.
"If you don't want our child, then marry me. You know I've been waiting for you," a woman's voice said.
I felt like I had been struck by lightning and stood frozen in place. She had come again.
"It's impossible," Brian seemed calm.
"Why is it impossible? You'd rather marry any random woman than marry me?" the woman sounded frustrated.
"Do you think I would be with my brother's girlfriend?" Brian replied.
"But you know that from the beginning until now, I've only liked you! Being with other men was just to make you jealous. Why won't you even consider me?" the woman cried, her voice filled with tears.
My heart twisted. Of course, I could guess who that woman was. It was my sister, Cecilia. I just never imagined that she would actually like Brian, and she even had a child with another man? And now she was pressuring Brian to marry her?
I knew Brian cared a lot about Daniel, so he wouldn't want to let go. I felt nervous, afraid of hearing his answer.
In the next moment...
"I don't like you, not in the past, and definitely not in the future." After a pause, Brian's voice became low, "You can't take the child away."
"Funny..." she suddenly laughed while crying.
"Do you really think a child can be separated from their mother? Have you considered what he would become without a mother? He would be sensitive, insecure, and could end up going to extremes... Can you take responsibility for these consequences?"
Brian fell silent.
My heart ached. I thought about Daniel crying and saying to me, "Vanessa, I don't have a mom anymore... She's dead," the pain in his eyes.
The child is innocent. If he knew that his longed-for mother had returned but only saw him as a bargaining chip, how heartbroken would he be?
I changed my shoes and walked over.
Brian noticed me first. Looking into his eyes, I saw the helplessness and pain, and it made my heart ache.
"Who are you?" Cecilia looked at me, her eyes filled with confusion. She then turned to look at Brian, and her confusion turned into jealousy.
"Sister," I calmly called out.
