Chapter 25
After that day, my relationship with Brian became ambiguous. Whenever we didn't have work, he would accompany me to pick up Daniel from school. He also tried his best not to go out at night and would stay at home, watching me help Daniel with his crafts.
Before going to bed every night, he would chat with me for a while. Most of the time, he would listen quietly as I spoke, and then flip through a book.
Before leaving, he would always say one thing to me...
"Whenever you have something to discuss with me, I won't turn off my phone or lock the door."
I understood the implications in these words. Even without kisses, hugs, or even any physical contact, his small actions every day still made my heart race.
Brian suggested meeting my mom over the weekend. After thinking for a long time, I finally agreed.
For this meeting, I took a day off in advance to clean up my mom's house, and I repeatedly told her not to say anything inappropriate.
My mom was surprisingly sensible this time, and she was extremely happy to know that I was bringing my boyfriend home.
"Don't worry, I will definitely behave well," my mom reassured, patting her chest.
She opened a lottery booth in the impoverished area and stopped gambling. Now she just looks after it, helping out by pouring tea and doing other chores.
Leaving my mom's place, I felt relieved, and my steps became lighter as I headed home.
