Chapter 44 The Truth Will Set You Free
Chapter 44 The Truth Will Set You Free
Trinity
It took them almost three days to deliver the babies. Dravos had to go back and forth between being here and being in his new life, but it was finally over. Tina gave birth to three boys, and Becca gave birth to three girls. Genesis took one of each and surprisingly the two girls were crying their eyes out as she walked out with their babies considering they eagerly agreed I didn’t think it would be such a shit show. Dravos also took one of each, I didn’t see that coming, he never spoke of wanting children. Not that I could remember.
“They each get to keep one child to stop them from going wild.”
He told me and I nodded in agreement as we separated the women from their babies and sedated them when they became inconsolable.
“Are you keeping those two for us Davos?”
Rita asked but he didn’t answer instead still looking at me he told me to take her to Gensis for the last ritual. Rita had no clue that just like the others she would be sacrificed to maintain Dravos’s cover, that her Alpha father’s bloodline would make for a stronger spell. He started to walk away.
“DRAVOS!”
He shook his head in annoyance turning to speak to her one final time.
“You really haven’t figured it out yet?”
“Figured out what?”
“Where do you think I’ve been these last few months?”
“I don’t know working on plans for us to get what we want?”
“That’s just it. There is no us, no we only me.”
“What?”
“I’ve been with Khione.”
“What does that mean Dravos?”
“I’m one of her mates now.”
“No, you're not.”
“Yes, I am Trinity here my best friend…”
That made me smile as I stood behind waiting for his signal. He pulled at the collar of his shirt revealing Khione’s marks Rita stumbled a little her mouth hung open.
“Made a perfect spell and potion for me, helping change my identity, bonding me to Khione. I’ve been with her; I’ve been in her bed that was always my plan from the beginning to be hers.”
“That’s disgusting you’re her uncle!”
“Not by blood.”
“Wait what? The King is your brother.”
“Yes, everyone believes we are half-brothers but that is a lie. She didn’t want me to be denied the title of Prince, but my father is her true mate, not the former King. Mother went through great lengths and spells to cover up her deception to keep me where I was. So, Khione and I are not blood-related. And she is mine now and forever. I will raise these babies with her claiming they are from a dead cousin who died in a rogue attack another thing to bring us closer. Khione loves children even though she is still young I know she won’t turn her back on them.”
“But they are the babies of her enemies.”
“Precisely now that I’ve seen their children mean something to them, I know they won’t attack her and risk harming their own children.”
Wow, Dravos could be scarily brilliant sometimes, I’m glad I’m on his good side. An unknown guarantee of protection bonding their children to Khione, her pack, and her Queendom. Masterful.
“But you promised me!”
“I did know such thing! You came to me for help with my brother and I did help you to an extent. You came to my bed when he focused on Khione’s mother, and I let you knowing it would keep you in my pocket I’ve never wanted you. And then when I knew I wanted Khione to be mine one day and you wanted to kill her I kept you close to sabotage any of your plans while you thought I was aiding and helping. It was how my brother was able to hide her. I always knew where she was and how she was doing. I kept you blind and bided my time and now she is finally mine and you will seal the deal being the last sacrifice.”
“SACRIFICE!”
“Yes.”
“I thought the babies were the sacrifices.”
“See this is why I don’t feel bad you’ll die soon. What kind of person would want innocent children to be killed for their own selfish gain and desires? It was never in the plan to kill any babies. Tina and Becca filled their own heads with nonsense, and no one corrected them. Genesis never wanted their blood, she wanted children. Her curse for her dark spells, she can’t conceive any of her own. And I offered her up Tina and Becca as surrogates because she’s been helping Trinity and me. Tina a dragon and Becca a Beta’s daughter those children will be major players in the future.”
Rita’s eyes went wide before she became wild her wolf fighting to come out as she grew angry as realization and understanding took root. She wasn’t going to get revenge on the King and his True mate, she didn’t have Dravos’s heart or body. She had no one and nothing childless, loveless, and desperate she went to lunge for Dravos he gave me a nod and I injected her with wolfsbane and a sedative.
“It's not fair.”
Her words slurred as she slid to the floor.
“You're a despicable cold-hearted creature, Rita. Spoiled by your father, bitter from jealousy trying to kill my Khione unforgivable. Willing to kill even more children is unacceptable you will pay with your blood, your soul cursed to feed the spell for as long as I live. Accept your fate as a result of your chosen path. This is goodbye.”
She reached for Dravos one last time he kicked her hand away and walked out with the two babies. I looked down at Rita and I couldn’t help but pity her a tiny bit. She loved the king from their childhood together, only to have his heart ripped from her by his true mate. To come from such a significant bloodline and unable to produce heirs, then to be lied to and betrayed what a sad way to go. Her true mistake, loving two men who wanted nothing to do with her.
“I’m sorry Rita.”
She couldn’t move her body, her eyes turning slowly to find me.
“I’m sorry nothing ever worked out for you I’m sorry you had your heart broken, and I’m sorry you’ll die so cold and lonely. I know what it’s like to love Dravos. He can be so cold, and aloof. Other times he's so funny, sweet, and smart. The way that he looks doesn’t help either, his body his eyes.”
I sighed
“But at least I knew the truth I knew about his obsessions. But to learn all of these things right before you die is both horrible and wonderful. At least you don’t die clueless and dying quickly means you don’t have to live through the pain much longer. So sad to learn you were just a pawn”
She whimpered and coughed, falling deeper into the darkness she tried to speak but it consumed her. I stood in the middle of the room for a little while looking at the three women driven by unrequited love and losing the battle was I any different just because I knew his truth and accepted it, or would it drive me to madness eventually just like them? I opened a portal and pushed Rita through dropping her in Genesis’s domain and closing it quickly. I didn’t want to be asked to help or watch I found nothing appealing about watching a person bleeding out on runes and blessing stones. I turn back to the other two, looking between them and their babies before making my next move.
Tina
It felt like I was drowning in mud and clawing my way out. I heard faint crying only getting louder as I pushed more to the little drop of light right in front of me. I woke with a start, sitting up quickly which made me dizzy, my head pounding, I turned to the side and started vomiting but the cries became more persistent. I turned to the culprit, my baby. I rushed over out of bed, my legs giving out from under me, I fell and hit my head on the little table, but nothing was stopping me from getting to him. I pulled myself across the floor to the bassinet picking him up carefully with shaky hands and bringing him to me rocking him. When a Devoted came bursting into the room, and I could see across the hall, Becca was in a similar situation.
“Ah, you're finally awake! Quick, quick feed the baby!”
“Where am I?”
“The temple of Moonlight in the land of Fae.”
“The temple of Moonlight? But why?”
“Well, we received word from Luna Rita that you two were eager to join the fold and give your life to the temple. You are now bonded to the temple and to the Order you are now a Devoted.”
(The Devoted are to the supernaturals what Nuns are to the Catholic church.)
“WHAT I NEVER AGREED TO THAT!”
Forgetting for a second the little one in my hands, until he started crying.
“But you have don’t you remember the arrangements have been made the time has passed you can’t leave the Order now. It is done we are one, we are together, we are for the moon Goddess Luna, we are the Devoted.”
“No, I have a home a family a mate!”
“That isn’t true is it we know all, we see all there is no point in fighting this just let it be. Now you have somewhere safe for you and your little one. Time will pass and it will get easier.”
I was too tired, weak, and hungry to fight her. But I knew in my heart when I was strong again, when the time came I was getting the four of us out of this place no matter what.
