Careless Whisper
“HERE,” Zero uttered when he put down the plate on the table.
Isla arched her brow. “Why did you mix the mayonnaise and ketchup?” she asked.
Zero sighed. “It was your mom who did it, baby. Not—”
“What? Didn’t I tell you that you have to—”
“Come on, baby….” Zero went closer to her and sat beside her, “—please… don’t make it too—”
“So, you’re giving up?” Isla cut off the hum of his words.
Zero shook his head. “It’s not like that—”
“Then what?”
He sighed once again and was about to reach for her hand when she moved away from him.
Zero let out a soft chuckle. “Don’t be childish, baby—”
“You called me childish?” Isla’s eyes widened, and she stood up.
He doesn’t know how to react. And he just cursed inside his head. He totally forgot that some pregnant women are sensitive.
“Baby… I’m so—”
“Follow me to the room,” Isla asserted and started to walk her way toward the second floor of their house.
Zero frowned slightly as he followed. He was about to step his foot on the staircase when he saw the maid. “Excuse me, please get the plate at the table, and you can eat the mangoes,” he said and climbed upstairs.
Isla frowned as she turned her back on the stairs and saw Zero staring at her. “Move fast,” she uttered and continued to walk. She opened the door of her room and stepped inside.
Zero follows.
“Close and lock the door,” Isla said, which made Zero’s eyes widen.
When their eyes met, Zero let formed a sly smirk on his lips. “Are we gonna do—”
“Strip!” Isla asserted and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
Zero burst into laughter, but he stopped when he met Isla’s gaze. He pressed his lips and smiled.
He walked closer to Isla. However, Isla raised her hand, putting Zero to a halt. “Stay there,” she said.
Zero nodded. “Okay, baby,” he replied and started taking off his black shirt.
Isla pressed her lips together when she saw Zero’s abs.
Zero put down his shirt on the chair as he walked closer to her. “What’s next, baby?” he asked. The smirk won’t fade away from his lips.
She arched her brow. “Take off your pants and leave your boxer on,” she replied.
Zero’s eyes grew wide. “Are you serious?”
She frowned. “Do I look like I am joking?” she asked, acting fierce when in fact, deep inside her, she wanted to touch his packs.
Zero nodded. “All right,” he answered and took off his pants.
Isla couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle at this moment. She bit her lower lip when Zero met her gaze.
“What’s funny?” he asked as he walked closer to her.
Isla arched her brow. “Stop right there. If you defy me, I will punish you,” she asserted.
Zero smiled. “All right, master,” he replied.
She bit her lower lip once again to restrain herself from smiling.
“Now…” she paused and let out her phone from the pocket of her dress; she scrolled and tapped for a few seconds. Suddenly, the Careless Whisper song started to play.
Zero’s forehead creased. “What are you doing?”
Isla smirked. “I want you to dance to this song until it ends,” she said, making Zero’s mouth parted, and eyes widened because of surprise.
He doesn’t know what to feel at this moment. Isla is making fun of him. But if he will not do what she wants, he will just hurt her. So, he was left with no choice.
Zero formed a sly smirk on his lips. So, this is what she wants, huh? He thought. Then Zero is willing to play along.
She walked towards her bed and sat on the edge. “Come closer. I will play it again. And don’t stop until the music is done, okay?” she asserted, but her eyes were fixed on the screen of her phone. Afterward, the music played from the beginning.
And when she looked at him, her brow arched. “What are you still doing? Dance!” she yelled.
“Fuck!” Zero cursed, which made Isla frown.
“Come on, dance!” she shouted and clapped her hands.
Zero at this moment wished for the ground to open and got swallowed. Damn, he fucking doesn’t know how to dance.
“I don’t know—”
“Just dance,” Isla interrupted.
“I can only dance on the bed—”
“Then come—”
“—When you’re under me…” he cut off.
Isla rolled her eyes. “Dance properly!” she exclaimed again.
She wanted to burst into laughter because this was the first time that she saw how Zero acted like an idiot because of following her. And she really knew deep within her that Zero loves her.
She set up her phone and started to take a video of him which made Zero to stopped swaying his hips.
“I will not dance if you’re gonna do that,” he said and frowned.
She put down her phone and arched her brow, pretending to be a cold bitch. “All right. You can go home now. We’re done here,” she replied and stopped the music. She stood up and walked to the other side, and lay down. And when she looked at Zero… “What are you still doing? We’re already done,” she said and grabbed the pillow. She turned to the side and hugged the pillow.
She glanced at the side table, and it was already Zero-thirty in the evening. “Lock the door when you leave,” she said and closed her eyes.
Zero heaved a deep sigh and walked towards her. He sat on her side. “Baby…”
“Hmm… just leave. I’m sleepy already,” she replied, still her eyes closed.
Zero heaved a deep sigh again and leaned closer to her. And when his warm breath touched her skin, her eyes opened. She frowned and looked at him, turning her eyeballs to the side.
“Go home, Zero,” she uttered and closed her eyes again.
However, Zero doesn’t want to go home, so he pushes her gently and lies by her side, and his right hand rests on her waist. “Let’s sleep,” he asserted.
Isla really felt sleepy and didn’t mind Zero—she let him stay beside her.
IT WAS the end of the school year. Isla is now eight months pregnant. She was grateful that she had already passed all her exams and was ready for the second year. The university gave students a three-month break before the new school year will start again.
She was grateful too that Zero was always there supporting her. The man is so sincere in his love for her. Zero respects all her decisions. Although sometimes, he’s still annoying. Like he wants them to make love, it’s possible, according to the doctor. And sex during pregnancy is also helpful for her. According to her OB, it will help her during the delivery.
Even though Zero told her that he loves her, she can’t help but overthink and have her what-ifs. With this, she then let Zero touch her. However, Zero knew his limits. He touched her gently.
“Where’s Zero, Princess?” Apollo asked the moment he saw Isla sitting in the living room.
“He went out early. He has a meeting. Why?” She arched her brow as she met her brother’s gaze.
Apollo was fixing his tie as he sat on the one-seater sofa. “How are you?”
She frowned slightly. “I’m doing good, and you always see that,” she replied. She rolled her eyes and continued to read the book that she was holding.
Suddenly, she heard Apollo's soft chuckle.
“Anyway…” still her eyes were on the page of the book, “—Becca will have her vacation here. And…” she glanced at her wristwatch, “—will be here this afternoon,” she added and looked at Apollo.
She bit her lower lip when she saw her brother’s reaction. “And she told me, she’ll be staying here. Is it fine?”
Apollo sneered. “They have a house. And you knew what my answer was. It’s a big NO!” he exclaimed.
She let out a playful smile. “Uhm… are you really sure that you don’t want her to stay—”
“Don’t start with it, Princess,” Apollo said and stood up. “Tell your best friend that she’s not welcomed—”
“She’s my visitor, and mom agreed with it,” she interrupted.
Apollo arched his brow. “At least, don’t let her stay here. She can visit you but not that she’s going to stay here,” he said.
Isla smiled. “Why? Are you afraid that you will fall in love deeply?” she teased, making Apollo frown.
“It’s not that. And who told you that I’m in love with that witch—”
“She’s beautiful. And have a sexy body. You know, perfect for loving-loving,” she mocked. Isla loves the facial expression of her brother.
“If you still insist on it, then I will be the one who gets out of this house.”
Isla put down the book that she was reading and crossed her legs. “Look, Apollo, you don’t have to be in denial. I could see it that you like her—scratched it… that you love her. And let me tell you a secret…” she smiled widely and winked at her brother, “—she’s also like you,” she added.
Apollo scoffed and let out a sarcastic laugh. “I don’t give a damn, Princess. She can stay here, and I’m not going to stay here—end of the conversation. Besides, I have a conference meeting in Chicago from Monday to Friday, so, yeah, she can stay here,” he said and left.
Isla can’t help but shake her head. Well, she will still wait for her brother’s love story. Besides, love always wins.
She was sure that Apollo fell deeply into Becca, and how could he be so in denial when they always contact each other? Zero also told her that Apollo and Becca convinced him to take the courage.
And now, Apollo will deny that he doesn’t give a damn about Becca?
She laughed. “What a jerk,” she whispered and continued reading the book.
She was about to turn the next page when her phone on the table rang. She put down the book and reached for it. She grimaced when she saw the caller ID.
“Yes?”
“What are you doing, baby?” it was Zero’s soft voice.
She smiled and bit her lower lip. So, this is the feeling of being loved? She can’t still help but shiver every time Zero does the sweet talks with her.
“Why?”
“Just checking on my two babies,” Zero replied.
God, she wanted to scream, but she just bit her lower lip again.
“Sitting, Reading, and I’m already hungry,” she replied.
“Do you want to eat something? I’m going to buy it for you,” he said.
She frowned slightly. “Don’t you have a meeting?”
Zero let out a soft chuckle. “I just excuse myself to hear your voice and check you out. The meeting will be over soon. Do you want me to pick you up? Let’s have lunch together,” he said, making her smile widely and nod as if Zero could see it.
“Sure. Just call me when you’re on your way,” she replied.
“Okay, baby. Gonna hang up now, I love you,” he said, making Isla stunned for a moment.
She’s always in awe every time Zero says those words to her. And when she got back to her senses, the call ended.
She smiled and caressed her bump. “Daddy loves us, baby,” she whispered. She stood up and climbed upstairs to take a bath.
