Chapter 29 - Sign campaign
Alpha Shane sat behind his desk, his brow furrowed in concentration as he reviewed the documents spread out before him. The rhythmic tap of his pen against the paper echoed through the spacious office, the only sound in the otherwise quiet room.
Suddenly, a knock at the door interrupted his train of thought, and Alpha Shane glanced up to see his assistant, Leo, standing in the doorway. Leo's expression was somber, and Alpha Shane could sense that something was amiss.
"What is it, Leo?" Alpha Shane asked, his voice tinged with concern as he set down his pen.
Leo hesitated for a moment before responding, his gaze shifting uneasily. "I'm afraid there's been some trouble, Alpha," he said softly, his tone grave.
Alpha Shane's frown deepened at Leo's words, and he motioned for his assistant to come closer. "What kind of trouble?" he inquired, his voice low but urgent.
Leo sighed heavily before speaking, his eyes flickering with apprehension. "It's a sign campaign, Alpha," he explained, holding out an envelope for Alpha Shane to see.
Alpha Shane took the envelope from Leo's outstretched hand and quickly scanned its contents. His expression darkened with anger as he read the words printed on the page, the message clear and unmistakable.
"It's for the Silver Stone Moon Pack members who don't support Giselle as their Luna," Leo clarified, his voice tinged with concern.
Alpha Shane's jaw clenched as he absorbed the implications of the sign campaign. It was clear that there were those within the pack who harbored doubts about Giselle's suitability as Luna, and they were not afraid to voice their dissent.
"This is unacceptable," Alpha Shane declared, his voice laced with frustration. "Giselle has done nothing to warrant this kind of disrespect."
Leo nodded in agreement, his own expression mirroring Alpha Shane's indignation. "I agree, Alpha," he said firmly. "We need to address this issue before it escalates any further."
Alpha Shane's mind raced with thoughts of how to handle the situation. He knew that he needed to confront the dissent within the pack head-on, but he also realized that he needed to tread carefully to avoid further division among his members.
Alpha Shane's voice echoed with authority and frustration as he addressed Leo in his office. "I've made it abundantly clear that anyone who opposes Giselle becoming our new Luna is free to leave," he reiterated, his tone laced with exasperation.
Leo nodded, his expression reflecting Alpha Shane's frustration. "I don't understand it either," he admitted, holding out an envelope to Alpha Shane. "But it seems some pack members have initiated a sign campaign."
Alpha Shane's brows furrowed as he took the envelope from Leo's outstretched hand, his eyes scanning its contents. Anger coursed through him as he processed the implications of the campaign.
"Who started this?" Alpha Shane demanded, his voice edged with anger.
Leo hesitated for a moment before responding. "According to the pack guard, it was Elder Lyndon," he replied, his voice tinged with concern.
Alpha Shane's jaw clenched at the revelation. Elder Lyndon's actions threatened to undermine the unity of the pack and jeopardize Giselle's position as Luna. He knew he needed to address the situation swiftly and decisively.
"Summon Elder Lyndon to my office immediately," Alpha Shane ordered, his tone firm. "I need to have a word with him."
Leo nodded, his expression mirroring Alpha Shane's resolve. "Right away, Alpha," he replied before swiftly exiting the office to carry out his Alpha's command.
Left alone in his office, Alpha Shane's thoughts churned with frustration and determination. Elder Lyndon's betrayal would not go unpunished, and Alpha Shane was prepared to take whatever measures necessary to protect Giselle and maintain order within the pack.
Leo approached the house of Elder Lyndon with purpose, his steps resolute despite the gravity of his task. When he reached the door, he rapped firmly, the sound echoing through the quiet surroundings.
Elder Lyndon opened the door, his expression guarded as he regarded Leo's presence. "What brings you here?" he inquired, a hint of suspicion coloring his tone.
Leo met Elder Lyndon's gaze squarely, his demeanor serious. "Alpha Shane wishes to speak with you," he replied evenly.
Elder Lyndon's frown deepened at the mention of Alpha Shane's name, but he nodded in acknowledgment. "Very well," he conceded tersely.
Leo's expression remained impassive as he delivered his final directive. "The Alpha awaits your presence. Do not keep him waiting," he stated firmly before turning on his heel and departing from Elder Lyndon's doorstep.
Elder Lyndon's fingers drummed impatiently on the receiver as he waited for Elder Ian to answer the call. When the familiar voice finally came through the line, he wasted no time in getting to the point.
"Elder Ian, it's Lyndon," he began urgently. "Alpha Shane wants to talk to me. I'm certain it's about the signed campaign."
Elder Ian's response was swift, tinged with a hint of concern. "Why would he want to speak with you about that?" he queried, his tone betraying a sense of apprehension.
Elder Lyndon hesitated for a moment, weighing his words carefully before replying. "I'm not sure," he admitted reluctantly. "But it seems urgent."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line as Elder Ian processed this information. "Be careful," he cautioned gravely. "We don't want to provoke the Alpha any further."
Elder Lyndon nodded, even though the gesture was unseen over the phone. "I understand," he affirmed. "I'll handle it."
With that, the call ended, leaving Elder Lyndon to prepare himself mentally for the impending conversation with Alpha Shane.
Elder Lyndon felt a chill run down his spine as he entered the office, Leo's presence offering little comfort in the face of Alpha Shane's evident anger. The air crackled with tension, and Elder Lyndon braced himself for the confrontation that awaited him.
Alpha Shane's voice boomed through the room, his words laced with fury. "Elder Lyndon, why the hell did you start a sign campaign against Giselle? Tell me now!"
