Chapter Ten

Day Two

Montai rubbed the back of his neck as his mind processed all the information he had just heard. After sipping on a little wine and cuddling by the fire last night they had drifted off to sleep. He woke to Lelani tracing her fingernails around his muscles. Keeping him soothed as he woke. They ate a little and then Montai listened as she spoke of using a spell to wipe away her memory. So she could forget him and live a normal life. She had suffered and hid her magic during her stay on earth for so long after a while she could no longer take it. Montai looking at her with sadness on her face.

Looking towards the fire as he spoke.

“It all makes sense. One day everything seemed like a blur. Not just to me but the whole island like.. Something was missing. When you did that spell it caused us to forget you over here and everything started to die. The island’s shoreline only returning a few days ago. Around the time you had the flashback in Paris. The visions I saw of you. All meant to bring us back together and here we are.”

He cracked his knuckles the color in his skin going pale as he spoke once more. “We couldn’t protect everyone. We were outnumbered by these wicked distorted beings we had never seen before. They created darkness and smoke. Erupting from it like a plague. Killing off most. A few enchanted ones still alive trying to hold magic. However, you were and still are the main link. The heart of Nakuru and when you used that gift to forget everything there was no more magic for your family to work with and they.. Well.. they turned to stone. We moved them all to a sacred part of your palace and moved in to protect it and hold any magic that might be left. When I saw you in the water and it all rushed back I had to find you. My brothers and I went through the portal to find you. I focused on your scent and oddly ended right in Paris when I walked through it.

Those hooded men that tried to attack you. I think they work for those creatures we still know nothing about. I’m just… I’m sorry I couldn’t protect your land and people like I was supposed to. I.. I’ve failed you.”

His jaw was tight when he swallowed knuckles an ashy white. He was beyond thankful that the gods helped their paths lead back to one another. However, his heart was filled with pain when he realized she had no family here to return to. She had Montai and the tribe but her people were gone. He should have been able to protect them better. However, their enemy was stronger, they knew nothing about them or how to fight them. They also had the element of surprise. To do this Montai still wasn’t sure how they were able to pass through the barrier.

The muscles on his shoulders flinched when he felt her hands run up and down the sides of his mom’s. Listening as she hummed softly. Hearing her words as she explained she had no resentment towards him. No one in Nakuru saw the attack coming.

“Montai my love it’s okay. I am back now and I will bring life back to these lands. For now, just love me, kiss me, and hold me until the night sets and we wake to a new day.”
