Chapter Eighteen

The moonlight seemed to hold a different significance now for Nile. After seeing such a beautiful figurine under it he seemed to be lost. Saddened with the thought of not knowing her. Or for that matter not knowing a woman or her touch in general.

His concentration on her broke when he caught the scent of another woman who didn’t seem to touch his soul the same way. A frown on his face as he turned to greet her. She stood a few steps away from him his lovely Queen under the stars and moon. Blessed that his brother Montai had found his love. Before Nile could say anything or even move into a bow Lelani stopped him.

Placing her hand up in a motion for him to stop what he was doing. Looking towards the sky with a smile on her face as she looked at the empty spot where the butterflies once fluttered. “You will know this woman soon enough Nile. You will go to her in another life promised to you. One full of magic different than this. Or at least in the right hands in can be.” Nile’s head tilted to the side.

He saw no reason to hide the confusion on his face. “My Queen. I’m sorry if this comes off ignorant but I’m not sure I know what you mean. Another life? Full of magic?” He took another step away from her. “Why have you brought me here? To this part of the garden so far away from the others? Where is Montai now?”

Lelani gritted her teeth trying to push aside the annoyance that he tended to bring. Though he was just as old in ancient times he carried his mindset in such a young child-like setting sometimes.

No matter.
Without saying anything she started to walk around him in a circle. Her purple eyes glowing brightly as she twirled her fingers that were hidden away from him. A thick grey and purple fog began to fill the area around them. Nile breathing the sweet scent in. His eyes growing droopy as he swayed slightly. His vision blurry and he smiled. This fog was Lelani’s own version of a truth serum and Nile breathed the fog in without a second thought.

Falling into a daze as Lelani asked her question…

“Tell me… If you could live any life freely what would it be like?”

Nile was beyond confused as to what was going on. However, Lelani was a Queen and he would never refuse his Queen. Unless the request was something unspeakable. A slight shrug of his shoulder as his eyes followed her movements.

“Well…” Nile spoke.

“To be honest I’ve never put much thought into it. But… Well… I would definitely have a special woman in my life. Someone lovely on the inside full of kindness. She would hold a rare beauty on the outside that no one has ever seen before. She would be the one and only thing that could keep me grounded. She will be strong against others but gentle around me. She will show me a love I’ve never seen. Like you are to Montai she will be my Queen. The only difference is she wouldn’t wear a crown. We would live a life outside of the palace. See the world, galaxies, and universes.

She would fill my life would adventure but the good kind. Not this constant battle of good and evil and dark versus light. It would be a love never seen or heard of. A love never written in any book.
I will be my own person not bound by another’s story and she will be my new reasoning for life. We would also care for animals. All of them and kids too. All those of innocence. We will share in each other’s happiness. Yeah… That sounds nice.”

When he had finished speaking his gaze landed on the moon. Lost in the idea of something that never could be. Squinting to himself as he was brought back to reality. Turning his gaze to Lelani. “Why is it that you ask me such things?”

The only thing Lelani was able to do was smile lightly. “There was an answer I seek that I have now found. Don’t worry you will understand soon enough. Come the others are waiting.”

Though, none of Nile’s questions had been answered he nodded. Keeping the sigh he wanted to let out to himself as they headed back to the palace in silence.
