Chapter Twenty-Three

It was around five in the morning when Montai found himself awake. Unable to sleep with the empty gaping pain in his stomach and chest. All this time waiting to be reconnected with the love of his life. Only for her to be snatched away from him in such a rushed manner. Watching her as she slept soundly. Gliding his massive finger through a few strands of hair that had fallen in front of her face.

She was the angel in the darkness that had swallowed him whole. He knew what he must do he just didn’t want to do it. He was at a loss. Her wild hair falling over her face so lightly. The soft flicker from her eyelids clearing dreaming something. Montai could only hope it was a peaceful dream of her and him. Her skin seemed to look even softer under the moonlight that came through his window.

Her lips parted slightly as she breathed. Plump red-stained colored lips. Beautiful. In his eyes, she was the definition of elegance. Montai gave a sigh as he heard his bedroom door give three soft knocks.

Slowly pulling away from Lelani, making sure she was wrapped with the covers as he draped himself in a King’s robe and headed for the bedroom door. Opening the door to see his brother Nile standing before him. The favorite brother of them all. Everyone considered him to be the youngest though they were mostly all the same in age. Living for centuries yet for some reason Nile had the strongest connection with them all.

This was the main reason why Montai had entrusted him with this task. Nile looked around pulling the hood on his cloak closer as he spoke. “All arrangements have been arranged, my king. We found the woman’s living home on Earth. But… Her face and features are blocked from view. Only her voice could be heard. I don’t understand what I’m doing here I…”

Montai held his hand up looking back at Lelani who stirred but then moved still. Placing his fingers over his lips as he stepped outside the room closing the door behind him. A small vile of purple liquid in a clear potion glass rested in Montai’s hand.

“I know right now it doesn’t make sense but in due time this will all come together. I know this seems a bit rush but we have a war coming upon us soon and we must be victorious. Go to where this woman lives and knock on the door the same way you did here. She will be expecting you. Keep your eyes staring at your feet at all times and leave your hand open for her to receive the potion.

Nile you must never look up until the door closes. You can not look at this woman or all will be lost.”

Nile was confused with no idea how this would help in a war. However, in all his time living Montai had never stirred him wrong. He would do as his king asked. A quick nod of Nile’s head before he spoke once more.

“I will let you know when it’s done.”

With that Nile turned and head towards the borders and Montai headed back to Lelani.
