Who’s That Girl

“Alpha, this is Alcina. She came to the pack with me yesterday and likes to stay for a few days.”
Gamma Clark walks in with the stunning woman by his side. The ticking of her stilettos demands the attention of Enrick, who sits lost in thought at his desk. When he looks up, his eyes fall into the brown orbs of the woman and he knows that she was the one who was standing in the garden of the packhouse yesterday. With a polite smile, he stands up and walks around his desk to the two.
When he takes her small hand in his, the same shiver runs through his body that he felt last night when they looked at each other. And he knows it's not a natural feeling, the woman standing in front of him is able to manipulate this feeling. With his higher Alpha bloodline, he is more able than ordinary werewolves to recognize the difference. And then he realizes that there's more going on here, Jace's hunch might be correct.
“Alcina”, he pronounces her name. “Welcome to Midnight Moon. I hope Clark gave you a good impression of the pack”, he says kindly. To find out why the woman is behaving differently, he decides to play her game along. If she's up to something, it won't be long before she goes into action.
“Yes, Alpha. We went to the club last night. I didn't know werewolves were so agile. We danced until we dropped. And even then, many still seemed unsatisfied,” she chats. “When we left, the club went on, people were dancing like mad.” As she talks, Enrick pulls a chair for her and gestures for his Gamma to sit in another next to her. He then returns to his own seat behind the desk.
“Tell me, Alcina. Where are you from? You're not a werewolf, but you are not surprised by our existence," he asks her curiously, leaning back in his chair. He observes her thoroughly. She is very attractive and sexy, and likes to make eye contact, but he notices that her eyes take on a special glow when looking at him. That's very strange, she's not his mate and his aura is of a saturated mated wolf even though Drina hasn't marked him yet. Everything about him indicates that he is mated, yet she’s forcing herself into his personal space. There must be a reason for this and if Jace has already labeled her as highly suspicious, he won't take that lightly.
“Alpha, I had a roommate in college who was a werewolf. And she talked a lot about your species. She even wished I'd find a mate in her pack and we'd keep meeting," she says in a smooth babble. “But the Moon Goddess decided otherwise. She found her mate in another pack and then the fun was over”, she laughs. Her laugh reverberates through the office, loud and shrill. For a moment, that reminds Enrick of the screeching of a witch he had once met when he was still young. It was a friend of his mother. When he accompanied his mother to Human Town, they often met her in a cafe and her laugh was so overdone that no one could ignore it.
Enrick keeps his face in shape. Under no circumstances does he want to alarm the woman that he doesn't really trust her presence here either. When he looks at his Gamma, he notices that the man is completely taken in, his eyes are full of lust when he eyes Alcina. For the time being, he is of no use to him when it comes to investigating his companion.
"But maybe I'll find him here in this pack."
It is mainly the hoarse voice with which she pronounces this sentence that attracts his attention again. So, she's after Midnight Moon, runs through his mind. Enrick looks up at Clark who now possessively puts his hand over the back of her chair, a sign that he is willing to fulfill her wish. "Then you'll have to stay longer than a few days, Alcina," Clark whispers to her. "A mate will need more time with you than the few days you want to spend here," he tries to persuade her.
Enrick closely watches the encounter between the two. Looks like Clark is more into Alcina than vice versa. She even keeps her head slightly away from the man when he speaks. Clark is clearly not her man here. “Of course, you are welcome to stay here longer, Alcina. I'll keep Clark off duty, so he has his hands free to spend lots of time with you in the pack," the Alpha offers.
Alcina lets out that shrill laugh again but doesn't respond to Enrick's offer.
She taps her nails against the back of her chair, the sound is striking and ominous. Another sign for Enrick that this woman is no casual visitor. And then it dawns on him that he might be her target. Her behavior gives many indications of that. Her emphatic eye contact and clothing. But especially her evasive behavior towards Clark who is clearly crazy about her. Everything points to her keeping up with the Gamma to achieve her goal.
But what is her goal? Why has she targeted Midnight Moon and him? He's sure he's never seen Alcina before. What is her business with the pack?
As he maintains the conversation with the two before him, he tries to figure out in his mind what disputes his pack had recently with individuals and other packs. As the Alpha King, few werewolf leaders can afford to have him as an enemy. Is there an upcoming challenge to his position? In the last meeting, some Alphas were pushing for a Luna Queen to manage pack issues related to women. The Lunas refuse to accept orders and directions from each other, creating a severe competency issue on the Alpha's board to solve. They want to get this problem solved as soon as possible.
Enrick believes more in the latter option. He is convinced that there is an Alpha in his midst who is disputing his capacity and sent Alcina on a mission. Only time will tell what exactly their plan is.
In the meantime, he will put his intelligence to work...
