On The Plan
Alpha King Enrick's POV
Jace is right.
This whole issue needs to be resolved, it keeps us in suspense for too long. And now that little Erina has even turned down her mate, the urgency has increased. None of the women seem to want to clarify the haze of secrecy that now hangs over the packhouse. In addition, I am tired of the long distance relationship between Drina and me, she now has to stay with me permanently in the pack. We are mates, love each other and then have to live together as a married couple should.
I walk out of my office and sniff the air.
And yes, I can catch her scent, she's on the second floor by the pool. Instead of taking the elevator, I run up the stairs. I can now really use this extra exercise to de-stress. When I reach the second floor, I walk straight to the bar ignoring her completely. I pour myself a double whiskey and sit lazily on one of the stools. There is a TV on the wall, I seize the remote and turn it on.
“Alpha King”, I hear her call on me.
I turn in surprise and see her sitting on a lounger. I walk up to her with my glass in hand. “Hi Alcina. Are you having fun?” I ask her with a smile. "Where's Clark?" I look around meaningfully and sit on a chair close to her daybed.
“Clark had some work to do, he said. He told me the warriors are being put on high alert. Is there a war coming, Alpha King?” she asks sweetly. This is not good. A Gamma that shares pack plans with outsiders is a weakness in our offensive system. It seems that falling in love makes Clark careless, diminishes his alertness. This is a serious omission that I cannot pass up.
“Midnight Moon hasn't been involved in a war in decades,” I tell her proudly. “But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be on alert and always in good shape. This training is intended to test alertness”, I tell the woman. "It may take a few more days."
She sighs.
“Well, that's no problem. I can entertain myself. Clark and I are just friends and I don't want to take up too much of his time," she states. She takes her glass from a table and sips it. “Well, you are a guest here and it is all our responsibility to make you feel at home. I have some hours off. If you want, I'll take you to Human Town. We can have dinner there and if you want to take a night swim at a lake. The water there is always warm”, I invite her.
Surprised, she raises her face to me.
“Alpha King! Do you really want to make time for me? Isn't your work going to fall behind if you deal with a simple human like me?” she asks breathlessly. I smile. "Of course not. Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest it. I just want to give you a good time. And I haven't paid much attention to you, which is definitely against our principles in the pack,” I tell her.
“Why don't you get changed quickly? I'll meet you downstairs in the lobby in half an hour," I suggest. Alcina flies off her lounger and looks at me adoringly. “Yes, Alpha King. I'll be ready then." And she's gone.
I take a deep breath and let it slow down again.
I have to be careful not to let Alcina get too close to me. If her scent lingers on me, it will be serious trouble. Drina is very jealous and I don't want to give her cause for anything. Like Jace said, I'm collaborating on this plan to permanently have my mate with me. Whatever Alcina's up to, if I can eliminate her plan, nothing can stop Drina from being with me.
Just the idea of it fills me with warmth again.
My heart beats hard in my chest at the thought of having her with me every night, without an interval. And then finally talk to her about pups. Lots of pups, the whole packhouse full of them. Pups from her and me. My eyes gleam at the prospect. With renewed energy, I stand up and go to my apartment to get ready. To warm myself against the cool evening I take a hot bath. My outfit is all black. I put on my favorite cologne and when I'm done, I walk to the window. With my advanced eyesight I scan the jungle around the packhouse. No, there is no sign of Drina.
I go back down the stairs to the ground floor.
And there she is, waiting in a breathtaking robe. Yes, Alcina is stunning, the way she's dressed makes her look like a vampire. Her black hair contrasted with the bright red lipstick and dark eyes are so striking. Only her updo takes something away from the image.
I offer her my elbow, which she grabs eagerly.
“You look lovely, Alcina. I am sure you will conquer many hearts tonight”, I compliment her. She smiles brightly and walks with me to my red Rolls Royce. It's a car that Drina hates the most, so I've never driven her in it. The idea alone of having Alcina in the exact vehicle my mate sat in fills me with disgust.
After I've helped her get in, I slide behind the wheel. We drive up the road leading out of the pack in silence. Alcina is clearly in her element, believing she has finally reached her goal. If only she knew!
“I made a reservation at a prestigious restaurant. We may meet some actor or singer there," I let her know. "I'm sure girls your age love that." She giggles for a moment. “Girl my age, Alpha King? You're not much older than me, please don't pretend you could be my father because you're not."
“How old are you then, Alcina?” I ask her amusedly. To soften the seriousness of my words, I glance out my window as if her answer doesn't really matter. Twenty-three”, she replies with a happy smile. I grin at her blunt lie. Jace told me she cursed Drina's parents for killing her mate. Alcina must be at least two times older than what she just admitted.
That once again confirms that she is a witch...
