Have To Find Her

Beta Jace's POV

I searched for her all night.
She seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. And tomorrow she is free from training so she won't be in the sports center either. No one has seen her, not in the packhouse or her apartment, not even at the daycare and training ground where she gives shooting lessons.
I've searched all the way through the jungle behind the packhouse, she wasn't there either. And since she doesn't have a scent, it's even harder to trace her. Deep sigh. This is going to be more complicated than I thought. If only I knew where she came from, what pack or area. She never wanted to tell me, no matter how many times I asked her. I'm distraught, don't know where to look for her anymore.
I eventually fell asleep in my apartment out of exhaustion.
Her absence puts a lot of pressure on my mental health. My wolf, Hunter is already so used to having her safe by our side every night. After swimming and shooting training, she is often tired and falls asleep immediately. But on her days off, she is active and has many stories to tell in the evenings, sometimes until the early morning hours when I playfully threaten to kick her out of the packhouse because I need my sleep.
How I miss my baby mate!
In hindsight, it was stupid of me to get involved with Jasmine. The uncertainty about my feelings and the opinions of others made me vulnerable. I need to find her and be a better mate for her. If only I had that one chance.
I got up at once, but it was too late. Enrick was already in the meeting and warned me last night to show up on time. I quickly threw off the sheets, ran into the ward to promptly wear business attire. ‘Hurry up slowly, Beta,’ Gamma Clark suddenly mocks me in the mind link. ‘I saw you busy last night and already knew what the result would be this morning. I've already apologized to Enrick and am sitting here on your behalf.’
A sigh of relief and I made my way to the conference room where the meeting had just ended. And then I see the witch standing there! I understand Enrick is working on the plan to unmask her, but I hate this woman so much. A grisly surprise awaits if she wants to take Drina's place. There is only one Luna Queen in this pack and I'm damn sure it is not her!
I can feel her anger, but I don't care.
She stays in the background. And I know this will make her more aggressive in achieving her goal because she will want to prove herself. But I'm ready for that too. This witch underestimates the power of this pack but I'm here to teach her that for sure!
And when Enrick gives a sneer at Drina on stage in his speech, the hilarity of this evening is complete. The crowd goes wild as their Alpha King mocks his impatience to upgrade his relationship status from dating to parents with kids. And it was Drina I introduced to the pack as his date a few nights ago. Enrick is really busy making fun of this whole affair.
But I know what to do.
I'm going to bully this witch to the point that she has no other way out than to step up her game so we don't lose a lot of time. We need action so that we can clear all barriers to the happiness of the Alpha King and Queen. I'm so ready for that.
When Enrick steps off the stage, I walk towards him.
All eyes are on us, it is now time for the tour in the building. The public relations team of the business center is approaching us. “Can you also arrange for someone to accompany the guest who came with us?” I ask the manager and point to Alcina, who is watching with an increasingly sour face. She gets up and walks toward us. Before she even reaches us, a PR officer grabs her by the arm so she has to wait for Enrick and the seniors to walk past to inspect the project.
With one last look at her, I walk along with the group.
As expected, Enrick is entirely professional and looks at everything with interest. Here and there, he asks questions until he nods in satisfaction at the end. "Perfect. This is better than I expected”, I hear him tout the investors. “I'll bring my mate here when everything is set up. I'm sure she'll be impressed as I am," he gives his audience food for thought again.
"How come we haven't received an official announcement that you've found your mate, Alpha King?" an Alpha from the southern region dares to question him. “We were in the general meeting a few weeks ago where you left with Jasmina, one of the daughters of an Alpha. But you made no announcement of a mate."
“No, Jasmina is not my mate”, Enrick chuckles. “My mate is still my date. Just a little patience, soon I'll persuade her to make it official instead of appearing on my arm as a date in public," he adds.
But the curious around him can't resist the case.
And Enrick clearly enjoys his own riddles.
“Alpha King, since when do werewolves date? Once we meet our mate, we are married according to human rules. Dating is for humans who are insecure in their relationship. Thank the Moon Goddess for the mate bond that allows neither side can walk away. Things get hot after mates meet, you know," another Alpha challenges him, teasing. The group bursts out laughing again.
“Alpha, when I said date, I didn't mean we were just holding hands,” Enrick taunts again. “Such a gorgeous woman, I will not let her stand. She is the most desirable creature on this earth. Didn't you see how she wrapped herself around me? She is everything I want.” The gleam in his eyes speaks everything, I'm starting to feel sorry for Alcina myself now, just standing there listening to Enrick honoring his mate.
I feel a stab in my heart.
Enrick is right, your mate is everything. And I ruined my chance because of my insecurity.
