I Can Teach
I'm getting Erina from the kid's club as agreed.
She is overjoyed to see me, which actually surprises me. I never gave her a reason to doubt my word. “How was your day so far, Erina?” I ask as she simply plops down next to me.
“I was so bored. There is nothing for me to do in the club," she explains, making a sour face. "The thing is, I forgot to take my weapons with me when I left home." Frowning, I brush her face, wondering if she's funny or serious. A five year old pup handling guns is not really what I expected from her. But then again, Erina doesn't seem like the everyday girl to me.
“What weapon do you have then? And what did you do with them?” I ask lightly as I deftly direct the car onto the main road. It is a bit busy; parents come to pick up their children from school, which goes with a lot of impatient honking and sometimes a cannonade of cursing.
“Riffles and shotguns. I practice with them, and I can already shoot very accurately,” she says as if talking about sunny weather. “My brothers are good with the sword and spear. Me too, but those aren't my favorites. I like fast shooters”.
That's a lot of information in a short time.
I'm keeping my careless attitude now that I find it's working on learning more from Erina. My mate never invited me to visit her home and doesn't tell me much about her family too. I'm so eager to hear more from Erina.
For a moment, I feel a pang of conscience. It's not ethical to question or trick a five-year-old into telling you the family's secrets. But hey, it's what Jace said, in order to make an effective plan, we need the information to cut Alcina's way. And when this is resolved, I can finally have my mate with me, permanently.
I look back at the girl sitting so confidently next to me.
“Okay, I'm curious about the sword and spear as well. My warriors also use it, although I have to say that a shotgun is much easier on the battlefield," I indicate. She smiles and now looks at me too. “Do you want to know who my brothers are, Alpha King?” she asks mischievously. “I have five brothers and three sisters. I am the eldest of triplets”, she now reveals to me. My eyes widen in surprise. “Triples!” I exclaim. “So, there are two more of you. Great Goddess. Don't let Jace hear this. He's going crazy with you alone. Two more and he can sign up at a mental institute”, I say dramatically.
The little girl rolls her eyes.
“Beta Jace is exaggerating. We get along really well, until it gets personal. Then he suddenly turns into a stony man,” she explains. "And if his attitude doesn't impress me, he starts to get in the way, and we get into a fight." I swallow, her analysis is not from a five-year-old. This child is really wiser than her age suggests. “Hmmm,” I reply.
“But if you like to, you can teach the other pups to use these weapons? If you're bored at school, maybe you can serve with Gamma Clark," I suggest. "You can then teach kids your age in the pack to handle the riffles." It's a sudden hunch of mine, but when I see the joy on her face, I don't regret the offer.
“Yeah, Alpha King, I want that. That's much more fun than cutting paper and folding paper ducks at school”, she grins with joy. I can't help but chuckle at her comment.
“And maybe your brothers and sisters would also like to come here from time to time to demonstrate the other weapons here,” I suggest. Much to my surprise, she becomes silent after my statement. She starts biting her nails while looking straight ahead. “I will ask them. But I don't guarantee they'll be allowed to come, Alpha King. You know how I got here, hiding in the car with nothing. Grandma and Drina have to give permission”.
“Your grandma and Drina? But where is your mother then? Maybe I could ask her," I suggest. I hold my breath, it seems like I've asked about state secrets. Erina avoids my gaze, meaning she is hiding something. This hesitates me, first Jace and now Erina. It seems like everyone around me knows something they're trying to hide from me.
“You know, Alpha King. I'm the oldest. My siblings are too small to travel," she claims. But everything around her screams that this is an excuse. “But I can also teach the use of sword and sphere. It is not difficult as long as the pups want to learn. I can start tomorrow.”
I don't insist.
In any case, I've learned a little more about Erina, although I still miss the link with Drina. Once again, I look next to me, and to be honest, the girl has a lot of Drina features, they are unmistakably family. First, I take her to a bistro to get something to eat.
When we are sitting at the table, she picks up a menu and runs her fingers over a few dishes. “Alpha King, I would like a French Onion soup”, she says. She studies the list further and within seconds, she already knows that she wants Grilled Ribeye with vegetable and garlic sauce. I straightened my face, it was clear that the dishes were nothing new to her. “Hey Erin. That Onion soup can be quite spicy. Are you sure you want it? And have you eaten it before?” I ask her.
Without looking up from the menu, she nods.
“Grandpa orders a different type of dish every month from Human Town. And then he explains all the ingredients and how it's prepared," she says. “We all love French cuisine, so we order it the most. But also, Italian and Indian dishes”.
Not much information, but I'm sure Jace can do something with this.
“Shall we all go to Human Town one day and have dinner in a real French restaurant?” I suggest. “I mean where a cook is a French man, completely in the atmosphere of the country”. Her eyes start to sparkle. "We? Who are they, Alpha King? Is Jace coming too?” she asks, clearly suppressing her eagerness.
I frown again.
The two are really close to each other, goes through my mind....
