The Meeting

From a distance, Beta Jace watches the border, where the White Wolf usually enters the pack. It is dusk and he makes sure to be well hidden behind a huge rock that also obscures him from the view of the packhouse.
Now that Alcina has become acquainted with Enrick, he expects that the reason for her presence in Midnight Moon will now become clearer. Jace suspects this has everything to do with Drina's parents who recently visited his Alpha King. The most remarkable in all this is that neither Drina nor her parents possess a werewolf scent, indicating they have something to hide. And then neither does Drina discloses her official mating with Enrick, all red flags that Jace is assured are related to Alcina's arrival. For him, these are too many coincidences.
He sits patiently in the grass, sipping a bottle of water.
Erina kept him busy all day, he was happy when she finally fell asleep. She constantly demands his attention, stays close to him and follows him everywhere he goes. His wolf is crazy about the girl, when he doesn't see her, he starts howling miserably in Jace's head. Jace has a suspicion of what is going on but wants to postpone this conversation with his wolf as long as possible. The answer could turn his life upside down. Erina said she's only five, but her build and intelligence may lead one to think she must be close to ten. She is flexible and claims to know how to handle all weapons. And of course, he didn't want to put it to the test.
He's been sitting behind the big stone for about an hour when he suddenly sees the undergrowth move. The White Wolf, or rather, Luna Queen Drina is arriving. When she has crossed the border, she proudly stands on her hind legs and points her snout at the moon. However, her loud howl of triumph, as werewolves often do in their tribute to the moon, is lacking, she stares and sniffs a few times at the sky. Interesting.
Jace continues to watch the spectacle.
His eyes gleam with pride at the snow-white fur, shiny gray eyes and slightly longer muzzle of his Luna Queen. ‘She's no ordinary wolf, Jace. I feel a different power in her. And Era doesn't answer me when I reach out. We are her Beta, her protector. And yet Era continues to ignore me arrogantly,’ his wolf laments. Before he can answer Hunter, another presence catches his eye.
From the direction of the packhouse, a figure now appears from the thicket. Jace deploys the special werewolf sight that allows him to pierce through the dark. And then he recognizes her, he had actually expected her presence here.
Alcina!
The kindness and big smile of before are erased from her face, her eyes spit a scorching fire. With her hands on the hips, she focuses on Drina, who now shifts and stares back. “Welcome to Midnight Moon, Drina. As you can see, I have already arrived. And I don't think your mate needs you anymore now that I'm here," Alcina remarks maliciously. “You know my plan so prepare yourself to make it all hurt less. You are lucky, at least you know in advance what to expect. I didn't have that privilege twenty years ago," she bites at the woman in front of her.
Indifferently Drina looks at her again.
"Look who we have here! Are you lost, Alcina? And what do you mean by privilege? Everyone must be prepared to accept the consequences of their actions," she replies to the girl in front of her. “And if you don't, it entails risks that are often irreversible. But hey, why am I wasting my time with you? My mate is waiting for me”. When Drina tries to continue walking to the packhouse, Alcina blocks her way. “Enjoy it while you still can. Today may be your last day. Next time, you could be arrested for trespassing. And then you will also have to bear the consequences, as you said,” she declares confidently.
Drina laughs heartily, but her voice is joyless.
“Are you confronting the Moon Goddess for pairing me up with the Alpha King? You will dig your own grave. Everything you do is doomed to failure. Enrick is mine. I am the only woman he will accept and mark. You are just wasting your time”.
Blinded by the urge for revenge, the witch ignores her words.
“Do you want to bet? I'll give you a week and then you can come back here to receive Enrick's rejection," she taunts. “And when I'm the Luna Queen, I'll come to see your parents for the final payment. Make sure you're there too when I’m standing there before them. When I’m done, Giles will finally rest peacefully. I have stripped you from your possessions and status, but ultimately, I’ll painfully take your life.”
She then steps aside for Drina to pass. Looking after the woman, she makes no effort to hide the devilish grin on her face. She knows the separation between the two mates will be all the more hurting if they just had sex. The bond will strengthen and all the more devastating when it’s gone. “Go for the last time. You are as good as dead when I break the bond between you wolves after today. I will strike the final blow. Watch my words", she whispers to Drina's back.
Disappointed, Jace looks on.
His patience had meager results. Drina and Alcina do know each other, as he suspected. Alcina came to Midnight Moon because of Drina and her parents. She is out for revenge for one named Giles. And she wants to steal Enrick from Drina to teach her a lesson as part of that revenge. And as the mighty Luna Queen, she will then turn to Drina's parents.
“Well, you haven't taken all the links into account, Alcina,” he murmurs. “I'm still the Beta of Midnight Moon and to break the Luna Queen you have to get past me first. And that's not as easy as you assume," he promises.
He waits for Alcina to leave too, before stretching in the grass.
Time for a nap until the White Wolf returns and he joins her for an in-depth conversation...
