Chapter 12-- Brothers

I snuggled closer to the warmth that kept me from freezing. When I blinked myself awake. I realized I was in Dean’s arms.
“What’s going on?” I murmured.
“Nothing, Little Wolf. You’re home.”
Where could that be?
“Dean?” I mumbled.
The sound of a door swinging in sounded before my body was placed gently on a soft mattress. I tried to sit up, but my head span.
“You don’t like to eat huh?” Dean said.
He patted off to a room joined to the room we were in. He came back wearing a pair of black pants. I had to get used to guys walking around naked from now on.
“I was held captive remember?” I snapped.
“Are you saying Gabe didn’t feed you?” He arched his brow at me.
My heart slammed forward. I didn’t want the brothers to fight.
“He did, I just wasn’t hungry.” It wasn’t a lie. Eating was the last thing on my mind when I was accused of being a spy.
“Here you’re going to eat. I’m going to get you something.” He started toward the door.
“Dean!”
He sighed and turned around, “Don’t be stubborn Layla.”
I dipped my head to the side, “I was going to say thank you.”
His eyes slightly widened. His shock didn’t last long. He rolled his shoulders back and cleared his throat.
“I’ll be back.”
I wobbled off the bed and walked to the window.
“Whoa.” I gripped the window frame.
We were pretty high up. We couldn’t be in a castle, could we? Vast field of green grass stretched on to where it connected with a forest of oak trees. Scattered on the perfectly trimmed grass were tiny stone benches and round shaped trees with red fruit hanging on them. I leaned closer and saw the driveway beneath the window.
Several cars were parked in front of the house. Some of the cars that left the pack yesterday. I placed my hand on my chest when I remembered Killian had been murdered yesterday. I should have done something—
The door to the room violently burst open.
“Dean—” I whirled, to find Gabe.
He backed me into the wall and slammed his fist on the brick wall.
“You won’t get away with this by sleeping with him.”
“I haven’t done anything.”
His hand wrapped around my throat. I gripped his wrist, but I failed to make him budge.
“Gabe!” I choked.
“Have you really lost your memories Layla? Or are you just laughing at us behind our backs.”
I dug my nails into his hand, but little did it do. The red flash in his eyes told me he was going to kill me. A tear rolled down my cheek. I didn’t want to go out this way.
“Get off her!” Gabe’s body hit the corner of the room.
He was on his feet in an instant. I coughed and held my throat. I was starting to see two before Dean threw his brother across the room. Gabe growled, his eyes, still the color of hell. Dean stepped in front of me. What time did he even get here?
“What the hell man?” Dean growled.
“Me? The fuck do you think you’re doing?” Gabe blasted.
“Layla hasn’t done anything wrong Gabe, you know that.”
“You didn’t have to evacuate your damn pack!”
Dean let out a cool, yet dangerous breath. “Brother. Don’t touch my mate… or else.”
“Or else what Dean?”
The brothers glared each other down. I gripped Dean’s pants, causing him to break the staring contest. He helped me up to my feet.
“You okay?”
I nodded a little bit too eagerly.
“You’re lying.” His grip on my shoulders tightened.
“No, it’s just a misunderstanding. Please don’t fight.”
Dean’s jaw clenched. “Give us a moment Layla.”
“Dean—”
“No, go find Lexi, she’ll give you new clothes.” He shoved me out the door.
I should have known he wouldn’t listen to me. On my way out I noticed the broken glass and the bacon and eggs on the floor with the glass of milk emptied on the rug. After descending what felt like a hundred stairs I finally made it to what I believed was the main floor.
“Damn it, this place needs an elevator.” I panted.
“You’re telling me.” Lyle nodded, then vanished carrying a box up the stairs I’d just struggled to get down.
“There you are! We feared the worst.” Sam said and enveloped me in his arms.
It was warm, yet awkward because Ash and Sam’s mate Ginger were watching.
Ash was next. “Your car came late and we heard what happened to Killian.” The hug lingered longer than usual. He let his hands drag out of my waist.
And I shifted slightly. “Yeah, uh…” I cleared my throat.
When Ash moved aside Ginger rolled her eyes. “Don’t expect anything from me.”
“Yeah, I wasn’t.” I chuckled, nervously.
We moved outside. I was dying to see the rest of the castle. I couldn’t believe I was actually in one. We made it to the grass and I felt horrible for even stepping on the pampered lawn.
“It’s amazing isn’t it?” I said, taking the view in. I realized there was another garden turned on the other side of the six hundred foot castle.
“Glad you like it since you are the new Luna.”
I eyed Ash quizzically, “What?”
“We know you’re Dean’s mate. How did you do it? Get such a powerful man to be your mate.” Ginger sneered.
“I didn’t do anything.” I looked at Sam. He sighed, but shrugged and offered a simple smile.
“I couldn’t care less how powerful Dean is. Power shouldn’t matter.”
Ginger huffed, “You’ve clearly been living under a rock.”
“Come on Ginger. They’re fated mates, that's probably the reason she landed up here.” Ash explained.
“It sorta makes sense, but couldn’t fate have done with without taking my memory?”
“Another mystery.” Ash winked.
“Layla.” Dean barked.
He stood on the front porch, wearing a plain black shirt.
“You’ve done it now.” Ginger smirked.
“It’s nothing.” I hoped.
I scurried off. When I reached him, Dean dragged me inside to the hall.
“It won’t happen again.” Dean said. He believed his words were final.
“You didn’t tell Gabe about what the wolf said, didn’t you?”
He looked away, “That wasn’t important and you won’t repeat it to anyone.”
If it wasn’t important, why did it need to be under lock and key?
He grabbed my cheeks and made me stare at him. “Not a word Layla. It stays between us.”
He dropped his arms. He gave me one hard stare before he decided to walk down the hall to the living room.
“Do you think I have something to do with this Dean?”
