Not so Little Wolf-- Dean POV
Someone heavy landed on my chest. I thought it was a rock. I popped one eye open. I already knew Layla wasn’t at my side so whatever was going on she had to be involved. Instead of a rock I found a huge white wolf with purple eyes staring at me with its tongue sticking out.
“What?” I sat up.
The wolf took a step back and stared at me. Those eyes. They could only belong to one shifter. The white wolf tilted her head at me. She had a mischievous look in her eyes. I thought she was going to pounce on me.
“Layla?” I chuckled.
She shifted back into my little wolf and smirked.
“Get over here.”
I scooped her in my arms and breathed a sigh of relief. At least that problem was sorted.
“How?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I fell asleep when I woke up everything hurt.”
I caressed her cheek. She was still my Little Wolf just with an added dimension I needed to discover. I pulled her close and kissed her. I was glad she didn’t push me away. A part of me feared when she regained her memory she would remember having someone else and she would leave me. I’ve come to love this Little Wolf and I don’t want anything to come between us.
“We have to sneak back into the castle,” Layla said.
“I’m the King we don’t have to sneak back in.”
“We’re naked. I don’t know about you, but my clothes are gone.”
“You know I can order everyone to shut their eyes until your safely in my room.”
She giggled, “Don’t tell me you’ve never snuck into the castle before.”
She got up and brushed herself off. I gazed at her body. How had I not noticed how fit she was? Not only that but she had curves in all the right places. She was like an hour glass that I craved to caress and then destroy. Layla had the body of a warrior who spent hours training. The question I needed to ask her was on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t bare myself to ask.
If she was a spy, I doubt she would confess it.
“Aren’t you coming?” She called.
I hadn’t realized she started walking. I grabbed my pants, but if Layla wanted to walk around in her birthday suit then so was I.
“Layla?”
The woods were still and innocent. “Layla?” I barked.
What the hell? Her scent was everywhere. My wolf woke and growled. He scanned our surrounding for our mate. He was prepared to rip anyone who took our mate. I felt my eyes change that was when I stumbled forward. Someone wrapped their arms around my neck and their smooth legs around my torso.
“Uh fuck!”
Her laughter filled my ears. My wolf settled, but I didn’t.
“What the fuck Layla,” I barked and locked her legs around me.
“You really couldn’t feel me?” She kissed my cheek.
If she thought that was going to calm my raging ass she was wrong.
“What did you do?”
“I blended with the elements,” she said innocently.
“You scattered your scent and disappeared. How did you do that?”
“My dad taught me. Good for hiding from your enemies.”
“Well, I’m not your enemy I’m your mate. I would have ripped out someone’s throat.”
She ran her hand down my chest and rested her palm inches away from the V leading to my crotch. I shut my eyes. I was right about her. She was a menace.
“Good thing you didn’t.”
“Let’s go Little Wolf.”
The castle was awake even at six in the morning omegas and betas were alive and bustling. I didn’t care about the omegas. I didn’t want the betas even seeing my mate’s ankles. I tightened my grip on her and carried her around back to the basement entrance.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she whispered.
“Scared of the dark?” I teased.
“More like hate rats and spiders.”
“You’re tougher than that, besides this is a secret entrance. I think you should know it.”
“In case I want to sneak out,” she teased.
“Oh Layla.”

I lay on the bed watching her brush her hair. I never saw the Layla I knew yesterday brush her hair. I watched her fiddle with the items in her bag. She frowned. I loved the way her lips curled upward in a pout. She was so beautiful so desirable.
“What are you looking for?” I asked. I was surprised by how soft my voice came out.
What was she turning me into?
“Lip gloss,” she turned around and said.
I shot her a wolfish grin, “You want lip gloss Little Wolf?”
She raised a brow, “Is that so bad?”
“Come here,” I patted the space next to me. I was still naked.
Layla wore a dress that showed off her legs. I loved touching them, but I didn’t want anyone else looking at them. Her dress also showcased a generous amount of cleavage. Yesterdays Layla wore boots and a leather jacket. She was still my Little Wolf. A huge pain in my ass.
“What?” she raised her brow.
I just smiled like an idiot. There were so many things I wanted to say to her. Like how different she was now. Instead I said, “Let’s go to town.”

“What’s this? A phone?” Layla held up the brand new smartphone I just paid for.
I frowned. Was she serious?
“What does it look like?”
“Well, I’ve never had one.”
“What?” I snapped my head in her direction to make sure she wasn’t lying.
“Cars, phones, televisions all weren’t allowed in my pack. Anything electronic was forbidden for centuries.”
“You must have been living under a rock.”
“Sometimes it felt that way. I wouldn’t have complained as much if I knew I was going to lose my pack forever.”
I stood in front of her and cupped her cheeks. I saw the pain in her eyes. She hadn’t told me what caused her amnesia. I didn’t ask if she had anything to do with the Dare Pack. A part of me didn’t want to know.
“Where’s your pack?”
“I know it’s far. Far from everyone else. No packs ever visited us. We were… a very isolated pack.”
I thought she wanted to say something else then changed her mind.
“What was your pack’s name? I think it’s important we know who destroyed it. I doubt it’s wolves though.”
“I don’t know. They didn’t shift.”
I caught movement out of the corner of my eyes. I pulled Layla into my arms instinctively. The man who a dark hood. He’s been watching us since we left the store. Layla followed my gaze. I felt her tense.
“What’s wrong?” I demanded.
“What do you mean?”
“You know him?”
“Who Dean?”
The man didn’t hide that he was watching us. He tugged on his hood almost like a salute and disappeared among the people marching through the mall.
“I… don’t—”
“You’re lying. Don’t lie to me Little Wolf.”
“I really don’t know who he is,” she said in a small voice.
“Have you met him?”
She nodded and looked over her shoulders. He wasn’t there. I tightened my hold on her. I didn’t want her knowing other males. I could tolerate the young betas, but I had limits.
“When?”
“Not long ago. I came to the mall because I needed things and he cornered me.”
“The day I was attacked?” I raised a brow.
She opened her mouth and shut it. My heart slammed forward. Maybe my Little Wolf wasn’t as innocent as I thought.
“What did he say? Don’t lie to me Layla.”
“He… he told me not to trust you Dean. He said you’re more than a King. What does that mean Dean?”
Fuck. I walked her to the car. I didn’t know who he was, but he knew something I thought died in the fire.
