Chapter 24-- Alpha Power

I ripped my hand from his. “I’m not listening to you.”
I needed to find to clean his wounds. Where was that damn healer? My head was spinning a thousand miles per second. I thought I was going to faint. A river of blood ran into the room from the stairs. Blood ran down his forehead and out of his mouth.
“What happened?” I whispered to no one in particular.
Dean reached out and grabbed me. He brought me back to the bed. His blood stained my clothes and covered my skin.
“You need to listen to me,” Dean said.
“You’re stubborn you just need a doctor please,” I begged.
He shook his head. “Hybrid cuts… ugh… are lethal and I got too many. Little Wolf… I won’t make it.”
Every time he shut his eyes I shook him. I couldn’t lose my mate. I just found him.
“No! No! Why did you go looking for those damn wolves? Couldn’t you just leave it alone?”
Bane rushed into the room with Killian. The other betas didn’t know what to do with themselves. Their King was on his death bed.
“Where’s the healer!” I demanded.
“We’ve got everyone coming. He took too many blows.” Bane said.
“Hybrid attacks are impossible to cure.” Killian said.
I gasped.
“Don’t say that. Dean’s the King, he isn’t an ordinary wolf.” Gabe said, but the fear in his eyes matched mine.
“All of you get out of here.” Dean yelled his whole body shaking as he did.
“You need help.” Gabe shot back.
“The Dare pack is out there. You need to protect the pack. If you don’t we’re all screwed. That’s an order move out. Gabe now.”
Gabe looked away. He didn’t want to leave his brother.
“Move out.” He rolled out of the room.
The betas stood at attention before their king and slammed their fists on their hearts. A tear fell down my cheek. They thought he was going to die.
“Go.”
The door closed on us. I climbed into bed. I didn’t care that there was blood everywhere. I needed to be close to him. I took both his enormous hands. Those hands held me so delicately.
“You’re going to be okay,” I whispered.
“Don’t kid yourself, Little Wolf.”
“I need you. I just found you. You’re a pain in the ass Dean, but I need you.”
He chuckled. “You mean that?”
My lip trembled. Colour drained from his face and his breathing became laboured.
“Hey, be strong.” He snapped.
“You have no idea what you’re asking me to do.”
“You’re a fighter, Layla. I knew it the day I caught you trying to escape out the window.”
I kissed his forehead and cupped his cheek. “You need to fight for me.”
If Dean died I would be alone. He would leave a whole in my chest and a mark on my body. Tears blurred my vision I thought that was the reason I started seeing things in twos. My heart was racing and my fingers were on fire. My hold on Dean loosened and everything went dark.

I woke facing blue wallpaper. I rolled on my back to discover a black chandelier. This wasn’t my room. The covers were white a complete contrast to the blood stained bed Dean was in.
“Dean?” I sat up. I was alone in a massive queen sized bed. Someone undressed me last night and put me in a button shirt. That was the least of my concerns at the moment.
Tears filled my eyes. They were already swollen and aching. Where did they take him?
I kicked the blanket away and stumbled to the door and yanked on the handle. It was locked.
“Let me out! I need to see him.” I slammed my palm against the door. It stung but I kept going.
“Let me out!”
“Relax, relax Little Wolf. The key’s in the drawer.”
I jumped and slammed my back against the door.
“Dean?”
He leaned against a door I didn’t notice before. His arms were folded over his broad necked chest.
“Dean.” I breathed a sigh of relief and raced into his arms.
“Hey.” He cupped my cheeks and kissed me.
He was okay. Not even a scratch on his body. Not even a faint scar as evidence of a gruesome attack. Dean picked me up and wrapped my legs around his waist.
“No, I don’t want to hurt you.” I pulled back from our kiss.
He kissed my nose. “I’m fine.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face in his chest.
“I thought I lost you.” I sobbed.
He set me down on the bed but remained between my legs.
“I’m here Little Wolf. I’m not leaving you.”
I caressed his face, taking in his green eyes. He was solid and I was wide awake.
“How?”
He sighed, “I have no idea. The truth is I should have died a long time ago.”
I swatted his chest. “Don’t say that.”
“Hear me out. The day we were attacked at the bus station I was hit then again in the woods. Even the smallest scratch should have taken me out.”
“What does that mean? You’re just a powerful wolf, Dean.”
He shook his head. “Each time I was with you.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat. “What are you saying?”
Dean rolled on his back and pulled me to his chest. The black mark he had on his chest was gone too. The mark that told him his mate had died. It was gone.
“That you might have healed me.”
“No, Dean let’s not jump to conclusions.”
“Then I should just go after the Dare pack again and—”
“Don’t even joke about that!”
He raised his hands in mock surrender. “All right, Little Wolf.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I asked.
“It’s you I’m worried about. I woke up and you were passed out. I carried you out of our room and changed you and you didn’t move once.”
“I’m fine now.” I shrugged. “You won’t be if you go after those wolves again!”
He laughed and pulled me into his arms. We spent the next hour kissing. Dean started sucking on my nipples when pounding came from the door. He lifted his gaze to me while he had my right nipple between his teeth.
“You should get that,” I said, my voice thick with desire.
“What now?” He caressed my thigh.
The pool between my legs was ready to have him dive in. Dean flicked my nipple with his tongue. I moaned, almost forgetting about the person behind the door until the person knocked again. He dragged my nipple with his teeth and growled.
“What?”
“We need you, your Highness.”
He growled, “Let’s go.” He sat up.
“Me too?”
“You’re my Luna. Of course you too.”
We got changed and marched downstairs where a room full of betas and omegas stood in anticipation for their King to arrive. Dean walked into the room slowly. Was the man that was dragged into the house half dead a different person? They stood in front of me emitted power and grandeur. Everyone in the living room held their breaths including me, waiting for him to speak.
“We’re at war. There’s no hiding it.” Dean said.
I was sure everyone wanted to know how he had healed miraculously. I didn’t believe for a second it had something to do with me. Dean was a powerful wolf. That was why the Dare pack targeted him. Without Dean, we wouldn’t be able to win the war against the Dare pack.
I felt light-headed. I hadn’t eaten since yesterday. I snuck away while Dean continued with his speech to the wolves. I needed a cookie or something sugary because of how weak I felt. Someone appeared behind me and rushed me into the kitchen.
“What the hell?” I snapped.
“Get out.” Gabe barked.
The chef and the maids busy working dropped their dishes and scurried out.
“What’s wrong with you?” I asked, going to the other side of the kitchen aisle.
“Where were you when my brother was attacked?”
My jaw dropped to the floor. Gabe’s eyes turned blood red. The dose of Alpha power that came from him thrust me against the counter.
