Chapter 25-- The Power

I breathed heavily and locked my eyes on Gabe.
“Has anyone ever told you you’re a jackass?”
He smirked, “I’m sorry you feel that way. Answer me.”
“I was at the freaking mall. Is that a crime?”
I peeled myself off the counter and straightened my back. Now that doze of Alpha power was unnecessary. Gabe found me by the counter and backed me into the marble top. I looked away, but it was impossible to escape his overpowering scent.
“My brother was almost killed—”
“Imagine how I feel? I almost lost my mate. He almost died in front of me.”
He laughed and it sent a chill down my spine.
“You don’t give a damn about him. You’re hiding something, Layla.” He grabbed my cheeks with his meaty hand and squeezed. “You’re hiding behind that innocent façade.” He ran his nose along my jaw and I stiffened.
“Get off,” I whispered.
“You want me to move Layla? Are you sure you want that?” His nose travelled down my neck and found its way down to my chest.
“Why are you so nervous?” He chuckled.
“You shouldn’t be this close to me.”
“Says who?”
I lifted my knee and jammed it into his side with all my strength from a place I didn’t know existed. Gabe held back the cry and stumbled onto the fridge. He held the spot. The vein in his neck popped out.
“Fuck Layla.” He growled.
Gabe wouldn’t dare make a scene. He knew his brother better than I did and we both knew Dean would flip this kitchen upside down if he found us like that.
“It’s true you’re a strong wolf.”
I rolled my eyes. “Next time you overstep your boundaries it’s going to happen again or worse.”
A part of me forgot I was talking to an Alpha wolf and he had the authority to punish me.
“You want me to leave Layla?” He flashed his wolf at me. The outside of the wolf was red, like blood.
“Don’t do that?” I looked away.
“You don’t want to see him?” He asked gently.
I closed my eyes and let out a shaky breath when I opened them Gabe was gone.
“Oh my gosh.” At that moment my stomach growled.
I was too busy worrying about my mate dying to eat last night. I ransacked the fridge for something to eat. Thank goodness the place was stocked. I made myself a sandwich and found freshly made fries on the counter.
The sandwich was gone in seconds and the fries were munched quickly too. I was left with three fries in my plate that I tossed from left to right. Until one was picked from my plate.
“Hey.”
“My Queen.” Dean kissed my cheek and picked the other fry.
My heart started racing. What if he finds out Gabe was here and got slightly inappropriate? I didn’t want them to fight. Being in the middle of two Alpha brothers didn’t sound fun.
“Why did you run off?” He asked, turning my chair around for me to face him.
“I need something to eat.”
“Yeah, what you did must have taken a lot of energy.”
“Again with that Dean? Can we not talk about it? I don’t have superpowers.” I picked up my plate and dumped it in the sink.
Dean picked up a knife from the counter. I didn’t pay attention until he brought it to his palm and sliced it open.
“What are you doing?!”
I grabbed the knife from him and dumped it in the sink.
“Are you crazy?”
Blood pooled in his palm and dripped on the floor. I took his wrist and dragged him to the sink. He hadn’t said a word. Maybe he wasn’t fine. I stared at him, but he just stared back with hot intensity.
“Why did you do that?” I asked.
“Look.”
“At what?”
Dean turned the tap on and washed his hand under it. The slash was completely closed. Not even a scar. I let go of his wrist and paced to the kitchen isle.
“You can heal yourself Dean you know that.”
He shook his head. “This was you!”
I shook my head.
He laughed, “Do I need to do something else to prove it to you?”
“You better not. It doesn’t make sense. Can wolves heal others?”
He shrugged, “I guess so. The answer could be found in your pack.”
Shame I still don’t know who they are.
“This… is just too much.”
He took me in his arms and kissed the top of my head.
“Don’t tell anyone about this.”
“I’m not even sure I really cured you,” I mumbled.
“I’m a hundred per cent sure you did and I’m certain I’ll find out more interesting things about you.”
“What if it’s bad?”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Tonight you have a session with the rogue.”
I let out a shaky breath. Suddenly the truth was a hundred times more daunting. A wolf that could heal, but couldn’t shift? What type of pack did I come from? Were they looking for me? What if they demanded I go back to them and leave Dean?
“Hey, it’s okay. Now I almost died last night and I couldn’t believe I would never see you again.”
“I felt the same. I just found you and I’m only just starting to tolerate you.” I teased.
He lifted his brow. “Just tolerate me?”
I smiled, “You can be unbearable.”
“Yeah?” He grabbed the back of my thigh and lifted me. I wrapped my legs around his waist and held on tight.
“And you are a pain in the ass.” He said.
“Oh yeah? Want me to go bite someone else’s butt?”
He tightened his hold on me. His possessive nature was coming out.
“Never.” He pressed his lips against mine. “You’re a pain I can’t live without.”
He carried me out of the kitchen. “Oh please.”
“You’re the only ass I want in my bed.”
