Building Storms
“Layla?” Sam called.
I changed into pink lounge pants and a long sleeve shirt. Ginger was next to him.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine not sure everything else is,” I responded honestly.
“Is Killian really a traitor?” Ginger asked.
“Of course not,” Kenzie snapped.
She appeared behind her sister. I closed my mouth and she march up to me.
“Killian’s a good wolf. He’s loyal. You’re fucking crazy!”
I shook my head no. “That’s not—”
“He’s down there getting beaten. What proof do you have he’s hybrid?”
I bit my tongue. I wanted to ask what proof they had when they accused me of being a spy.
“He had me and my friends locked up. Killian beat me and left me on the side of the road. That’s enough.”
“Bullshit. Are you telling me you just remembered this?”
“Yes, when we were at the rogue’s house.”
Ginger snuck closer to Sam. It looked like they wanted to bolt. Kenzie’s nostril’s flared. I wanted to understand her loyalty to her friend but I wouldn’t let her antagonize or demean me.
“You can think what you want, but I know Killian’s not innocent. He’s a snake in the grass.”
Kenzie snatched my arm as I attempted walked passed her. She dragged me back. Her wolf flashed a warning in her eyes.
“You better hope he’s guilty because—”
“Or what? You’ll rip me apart? I’m not a scared little girl anymore.” I snatched my arm back and made my way to the basement.
My heart slammed painfully against my chest but I felt good, standing up to her.
I paused when Killian bellowed behind the black wooden door.
“Fuck.”
“Talk!” Gabe shouted.
I put on a brave face and summoned my wolf forward for extra strength. This was for my parents, my friends and everyone else lost because of the hybrids. I pushed the cold mental doors inwards.
Gabe stood shirtless in front of Killian who was strapped to a chair. Dean stood by the side. His knuckles were bloody from being rammed into Killian’s face. Killian lifted his head and a sadistic laugh escaped from him.
“Isn’t it the bitch herself. Come to see your handy work?” He spat.
“Watch it,” Gabe warned.
“You wanted her too, huh? That tight ass drive your wolf insane?”
Dean’s fist connected with Killian’s nose. Blood poured out of his nostrils.
Killian spat blood. “Come on, do your worst.”
Dean lowered himself to Killian’s level. “You could always take a hefty beating, Killian. Is that your heighten power? Super strength?”
“How long have we known each other?” Killian barked.
“Don’t give me that.” Dean shook his head.
“Are you going to throw that away for some pussy?”
Dean smirked. “It’s good pussy.”
I made a small noise of dissatisfaction. Dean straightened, his back muscles relaxed and he turned to me.
“Got something to say, Little Wolf?” He asked.
This was my moment. I had so many questions, so much sadness. I lost my Mother first then my Father. I remembered everything now including the way I fought him from the house they had us locked in all the way to the forest. I remembered the blows to my ribs, the yanks in my hair and the stomps on my back.
I moved forward. Dean grabbed my hip and stopped me within a foot of Killian.
“We don’t have to pretend, Killian. You tried to kill me. Imagine if you had? The goddess’ power would be gone.”
The room went still. Killian rolled his head back, his hands were bound behind the chair but he managed to slide down the chair and sit like the bored mafia boss in his own office.
“Good thing I didn’t. You don’t know how mad the little lady would have been.”
“You have no idea the damage you’ve done,” Gabe said.
“I don’t? How many packs have you invaded? How is what I’m doing any different?”
“You burned my entire pack! My family, my friends!” My hands trembled.
Dean took me in his arms but I shrugged him off. I wouldn’t hide my face from a monster.
“That pack stood in our way. Now this one does believe me, it will go up in flames if you don’t cooperate.”
“Help you wake a maniac? Never.”
Killian chuckled. “Don’t talk bad about your in-laws. We needed a leader, when you killed him hybrids were hunted because we were superior to other wolves but we were flawed, unable to control our other halves or when we shifted. I picked us up and created a dangerous force then the little lady came along.”
There was a hint of disdain when he spoke about Sinkara. Why would he bring her back if he didn’t like her? Did he have a plan that went south? Did she gain more power than he wanted her to have?
“Enough. Where’s the body?” Dean demanded.
“Don’t worry about it. Worry about the hybrids that’ll storm this place if you don’t let me go.”
“Fuck that. I’ll tear them apart.”
Killian’s eyes roamed up my body. Dean growled and stuck me behind him.
“Yeah… you have a secret weapon.”
The metal door behind us groaned open. Lyle popped in. All the males in the room aside from Killian were shirtless. Heat rushed to my cheeks.
“We got one of the wolves that attacked you. He’s demanding to talk to Layla,” Lyle said.
“Who the fuck does he think he is?”
Lyle folded his arms over his tatted chest and leaned against the door frame. “Killian’s brother. Dexter ring a bell?”
A bark of laughter came from Killian. “That son of a bitch.”
Gabe and Dean shared a look. Neither of them knew he had a brother.
“He was mad when I told him I killed you before he could have a little fun with you. He must think the moon goddess gave him a second chance with you.”
Gross. I tried to place Dexter. A wolf who looked like Killian but they didn’t have to look alike to be brothers.
“I want to speak to him,” I said.
“No,” Dean said through gritted teeth.
“I wouldn’t leave my brother alone with that tight ass. He’ll destroy her.”
“One more word out of you and you’ll be in pieces on the ground,” Dean barked.
I dragged Dean out of the room. Killian was infuriating and he could clearly take a beating. That wasn’t the way to work with him. If what he said was true about the hybrids coming, then we needed a plan to secure the pack. Gabe walked out too and shut the door.
“You’re not going in here, I won’t let you,” Dean declared.
“He’s demanding to see me then he must have something to say.”
“Aside from that what do we do about the incoming hybrids?” Gabe cut in.
Dean growled a sound that sent shivers up my spine. “Make sure the pack’s safe first. Get every available beta. We’ll handle the castle.”
I always knew we would have to face the Dare pack eventually in a battle of immense bloodshed. Gabe left and my mate and I were alone. I rubbed down his arms and held his burning desire filled face.
“We’re going to be okay,” I said.
“I can’t promise that this time Layla.”
He didn’t call me Little Wolf. There was no play in his tone, no mischief in his eyes. I nearly lost him when he was attacked by the Dare pack and that was fear and sadness that nearly killed me. What if I was killed and left him? Our lives had barely begun.
He cupped my cheeks and backed me into a cold damp wall. It was disgusting but that didn’t matter when Dean’s warm body was against mine.
“It’s different this time, I’ll protect you until I can’t.”
“No, I’m not losing anyone else to the Dare pack so we have to find another solution.”
“I have an idea. A power surge—”
“You want us to have sex?” I raised a brow.
“Not just sex. Mind blowing sex that’ll blow that fuckers into orbit.”
Heat rushed to my face. My neck felt hot and sweat formed in my armpits. Dean caged me against the wall.
“Your power manifested when we touched in the forest. It could manifest again through the power surge.”
“You’re going to wreck me, aren’t you?”
“Do you want me to wreck you?”
I cast my eyes down and sucked in my bottom lip. I nodded. “You’re the only man I want to destroy me.”
