Alpha King Things
Victor and Tristan. They were obviously dead, but why were they dead?
I sat on the stone fountain. Another fountain that didn’t work on the property.
Kenzie, Lyle and Dec and of course Alpha Gabe made up the team of the Alpha King’s most trusted personnel. I never thought about Dean’s past. I knew he had lots of lovers and I didn’t want to think about that. He invaded packs and killed people but I never pondered that.
“Don’t we have a cousin named Victor?” Gabe asked.
“Yeah, but he’s alive,” Dean grumbled.
“Killian would know,” Kenzie commented.
She glanced at me. Now it’s my fault, Killian’s a killer hybrid wolf?
“He’s not here,” Dean snapped. “I don’t like that guy and I don’t like that he knows things I don’t even remember.”
“What do you want us to do with him, chief?” Lyle asked.
Dean caught my gaze for a second.
“Nothing,” he ground out. “For now.”
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in. I was fond of Eight despite his outburst. He did save my ass. My fondness came from the fact that I didn’t have any family left in the world.
“I’m pretty sure you had a beta named Tristan. He fought with Gabe because he wanted to take an omega from the pack without permission,” Dec said.
Gabe frowned. “Why don’t I remember that.”
“Oh yeah, you made a big deal out of that omega,” Kenzie commented and rolled her eyes.
Gabe rubbed the back of his head. “Oh— Fuck. That was seven years ago. He died in an invasion, right?”
Dean’s jaw clenched and I knew he remembered who Tristan was.
“A fire,” he added. “Victor was his brother. Victor wasn’t my pack though.”
“So this Eight guy thinks you killed them? Why when Tristan died in a fire?” Kenzie asked.
She echoed my thoughts. Dean held my gaze. I wanted to link him but the fire in his eyes burned my connection with him. Did the men know too much?

I looked at myself in the mirror and tilted my head. My eyes were a hot shade of purple suddenly. Was I sick? I was trying to pick out a dress for dinner tonight and that meant finding an outfit that blended well with my eyes.
Dean killed the conversation in the garden and I hadn’t been able to talk to him because he shut it down and disappeared. I picked out a navy blue dress with puffy sleeves and hugged my curves nicely. The door to our room closed softly. Dean entered the bathroom and leaned against the door frame. I only had a towel on.
“Mate,” he said.
“Yes,” I whispered.
He appeared behind me and planted his hands on my shoulders. He kissed my skin sending shivers throughout my body.
“We can skip the dinner party,” he said against my skin.
“We’re the hosts,” I said.
“They’ll understand because the mating moon’s getting stronger.”
“Is it?” I asked casually knowing I wanted him as much as he wanted me.
He spun me. I gasped and held his stare. He pinned me against the counter and held my waist.
“You feel it too. Did you know your eyes change colour depending on your mood?”
“That’s silly Dean.”
“They’re darker now. Could mean you’re horny as fuck. When you’re happy they become Lavender. I guess that’s the moon stone’s power shining through.”
“Come on Dean. You’re not wearing that to the party are you?”
He wore a white shirt and black pants.
“I’m fine. You’re not going to admit you’re horny as fuck?”
His hand slid up my ass and squeezed. I shut my eyes and suppressed the moan.
“I’m… not.”
“If I move my hand between your legs I won’t find something pleasant?” His fingers moved between my thighs. I snapped my legs together, trapping Dean’s hand.
“Hey!” I gasped.
“You know I’m right, Little Wolf. So, you’re not going to let me touch?”
“You won’t tell me about Tristan and Victor so we can call it even.” I lifted my chin.
He attempted to move his hand up my thighs but failed.
“Tristan knew I was cursed. He was an arrogant bastard who thought he saw an opportunity to take my throne. I killed him swiftly and forgot about him, happy?”
I pressed my lips upwards and Dean groaned.
“Don’t look at me like that. I come apart when you do,” Dean said.
“What about Victor?”
“Victor was his brother. Him I didn’t kill, I swear.”
“What? Then why would Eight think so?”
“I don’t know. He was found here but I didn’t touch him.”
He freed his hand and peeled me off the counter.
“I should spank you,” he said.
“After dinner.”
He grazed my moist entrance and brought his fingers to his lips and sucked. I gasped at how hot that was.
“I’ll do more than just spank you, mate.”

“Are you sure you won’t change?” I asked Dean.
“We won’t be here long anyway.” He flashed his wolf at me and I felt his desire in my bones.
He placed his hand on my ass and guided me into the dining room. Everyone was there including Owen and his senior betas. Except Eight.
The seat at the head of the table was empty as was the seat beside it. Everyone rose as the Alpha King entered the room. Dean exuded confidence and royalty. I felt like a mouse by his side.
“Why does it smell like sugar and rosewater?”
Dean smirked, “Do you like it?”
Oddly it made my head light and my limbs fluffy.
“Yeah,” I smiled warmly. “Smells good enough to eat.”
“Like cotton candy, huh?” Dean said in my ear.
Two giant turkeys sat at the centre of the table while grapes in tiny bowls were positioned in front of every chair. No one cared about the fruits we all wanted the meat. I wouldn’t mind a plateful of the delicious scent in the air.
Dean rubbed my thigh and picked up a glass of red wine.
“Dean, did you put sea crystals in the air vents?” Gage asked.
“Everyone needs to relax. Some sea crystals won’t hurt.”
I looked around. The guests laughed and leaned comfortably on one another as if they knew each other for years. Even Owen laughed as he told a story that made no sense to me. He brandished his glass women leaned on him and laughed.
“Aren’t you worried about your Little Wolf?” Gabe asked.
What about me?
Dean squeezed my thigh and pushed my dress up.
“She’s fine.”
“She’s a little lightweight, isn’t that right Layla?” Gabe dragged his words out.
Why was he looking at me as if I was the turkey on the table? I felt like cotton candy, not meat.
“Why don’t you worry about your own mate?” I scowled and I wondered where the confidence came from.
Gabe sat up the heat in his eyes intensifying. It wasn’t the type of heat that conjured moisture between your legs more like fear in your bones.
“Kenzie’s just fine,” Gabe said.
“Kenzie?” I pouted.
That isn’t right. Avery’s his fated mate.
“What about Avery?” I asked.
“Who?” Kenzie sat up straight.
Gabe shot his older brother daggers. Dean laughed nervously before carrying me off the chair.
“I can walk Dean,” I drawled.
“Let’s see you.” He set me down in the hall outside the dining room.
The sea crystals weren’t as strong out here. I stared at the stairs and they didn’t seem exciting. The pool did though. I turned on my heels and stumbled.
“Wrong way, Little Wolf.”
“I’m going to the pool.”
Dean snaked my waist. “Whoa, we have plans.”
I snorted. “You won’t touch me anyway. So, you might as well watch me swim naked.”
He swallowed. “This isn’t rational,” he said.
“Neither is falling in love with a criminal.”
I walked out the castle's front door in a determined search for the pool.
