Confrontations and Truths

"Is she always like this with you?" I asked, looking at Cecília, whose eyes avoided mine.
The woman seemed petrified as she worked on my room, and I knew, judging by her reaction, that this wasn’t the first time the maids had been mistreated by Haizel. What I didn’t understand was how Dimitri allowed it.
"Things have changed a lot since you left, Luna," she said, looking at her feet. "Please don’t tell her I called you that, but the pack isn’t the same since you and the Alpha got divorced. Everyone is often on edge, and the number of fights and arguments that happen within the pack is endless."
"My lips are sealed, don’t worry." I said, and she looked at me, her eyes brightening a little. The smile on her face was genuine, and I knew that a bit of relief filled the woman upon hearing my reassurance.
"Are you coming back for good now?" she asked, and I smiled.
"There is no ‘forever,’ you know that, Cecília." I said, and she looked away from me. "But I’ll stay for a long time. With Lowrence being a child, I can’t leave until he chooses to leave when he grows up. Until then, I don’t intend to leave him here alone."
She nodded, and I looked at my son through the adjoining rooms’ door, my heart aching for him. The last thing I wanted for him was to change the order in which he grew up. At some point, it just didn’t seem right to do that now.
"You’re going to deal with a lot within the group. Luna Haizel keeps getting stronger every day, and the anger she harbors is frightening. The woman is willing to do anything for power, and we’ve seen her hurt those around the pack more than once if she sees them as a threat," she said, and I frowned.
"Then why doesn’t the Alpha stop her? Don’t get me wrong, but I’m sure he knows this. Why is he allowing her to do whatever she wants?" I asked, shaking my head in disbelief. The door opened, revealing Haizel, who had some perfumed oil rubbed on her, and she smiled, crossing her arms over her chest. Her smile was wicked, and I saw Cecília flinch as she trembled with fear.
"Because I’m the mother of his heir. Is that reason enough?" she asked, and I raised an eyebrow at her. The fact that she was allowing herself into the room the Alpha of this pack had designated for me was something that surprised me. I knew and understood how things happened within the pack, and this was a reminder for me to lock the door and never speak without muffling my voice.
"You mean your bastard?" I asked, shaking my head in question. Her eyes widened in surprise, and the low growl that rumbled from her chest told me I had angered her. "We both know Lowrence is Dimitri’s legitimate son, and that scares you. What you don’t understand is that the last person I want to talk to or care about right now is you. So, I’m going to suggest something and recommend you keep it in mind. Because I won’t be merciful with you if anything happens to him."
"Are you threatening me?" she asked, and I shook my head. The last thing I did was threaten. I reacted, and that was something even her husband knew.
"You can ask Dimitri if I threatened you or not," I said, looking the woman dead in the eyes. "But if you come near my son, I’ll make sure you regret it. As for the women who are in my service, assigned by the Alpha himself, this room by the Alpha, and my stay by the Alpha; you will not come near me or my son. Otherwise, I’ll make sure to react, and I doubt you’ll like my reaction."
"You have no right to talk to me that way," she said, and I smiled. My smile was cold, and I took a step toward her before nodding toward the door.
"And I doubt you should have the right to have a private room. You shouldn’t have the right to spread your legs for a man who was engaged, and God knows if you did it or not when we were married," I said, tilting my head to the side as I looked at her. "Should I keep listing the things you did despite not having the right to do them? Or will you gather whatever dignity you have left and get the hell out of my sight?"
"You’ll pay for this, and I’ll make sure you regret even thinking about talking to me that way," she said, and I nodded, waiting for her to leave. Her eyes scanned the surroundings of the room, and she looked at Cecília, whose head was fixed on the floor as she feared the woman’s reaction.
She took a step forward, wanting to get close to her, but I stepped forward, stopping her as I stood between them. Her anger could be seen and read in her eyes, and I could tell this was the last thing she expected from me. The woman was used to people submitting to her, but I had always known from my personality, one of the reasons why the pack rarely had problems around me.
