The Diamonds
**Dimitri:**
"I think you should wear the diamond set tonight," I said, looking at Haizel as she got ready.
It had been a while since we both went on a 'date', and I thought of using this excuse to make her wear the set. Besides, I was really curious about what she would say. And then there was the fact that I was going to inform her that we would be going to the hospital, which was another matter to take care of now.
Her eyes met mine, and I raised an eyebrow at the woman, curious about what she would say.
"The diamonds? Why them in particular?" she asked, her tone somewhat hesitant as she looked at her heels. She didn't say a word for a few seconds, but I watched as she walked towards her jewelry box, pretending to look for something.
Her heart raced, and her hands trembled, but I waited patiently.
"Is everything okay?" I asked, giving her the opportunity to talk to me. Telling me would be easier for her, and although I knew she wouldn't, I wanted her to be honest with me. This would shorten this nonsense.
It's been three days since I found out what happened, and in those three days, I waited day and night for her to talk. But nothing. She refused to even open the subject.
"Yes, yes, I just can't remember where I put it," she said, and I nodded, chewing the inside of my mouth. "I'm sure it was here somewhere. But let me go and check the safe. It should be in there."
I smiled, trying to ignore the anger I felt, my heart racing, and I had to debate how I would react. Every way I thought wouldn't end well for her, but now, I didn't know what I could do to make this end well in the first place.
The woman was looking directly into my eyes, and instead of telling the truth, she was lying so casually that it made my stomach churn. She stayed for a while, looking in the safe, and I crossed my arms over my chest as I sat in the chair by the window.
The frown on my face was enough for anyone to know that I was angry, and although neither Leonardo nor I could figure out why she sold the set, I knew she was up to something. Whatever it was, I knew it would come to light soon.
She didn't speak as she closed the safe and, walking towards me, sat in the chair opposite mine.
"I couldn't find it," she said, and I raised an amused eyebrow.
"You couldn't find a set that costs more than fifty thousand dollars?" I asked, and she looked away from me, biting her lower lip.
"One of the maids must have taken it. I could have left it somewhere or given it to one of the girls..." she said, continuing with her lies. I stayed quiet for a second, thinking, considering what I was going to say. "Let me go and call Yildez..."
"Are you really blaming the maids or one of the girls?" I asked, interrupting her. She didn't say a word for a second, processing what I had just said, and I shook my head in question. "A cat got your tongue suddenly?"
"I don't understand what you're talking about, Dimitri. That's why I stayed quiet," she said, and I smiled, shaking my head at her. The disappointment I felt was indescribable. The way she spoke and the way she lied looking straight at me. I wondered what else she was lying about now, and she knew I didn't tolerate betrayal of any kind.
"Is that so?" I asked, standing up from the couch. I didn't want to hurt her, and I knew I was about to. If she continued with her lies, I knew my anger could end up getting the better of me. And that was the last thing I wanted to do. "You know how much I hate liars, Haizel?"
"Of course, I've always been told that you don't like it. It's something you're completely against. But I don't understand why you're telling me this now." She said, shaking her head. I growled, and that was when I picked up one of the perfumes that was on the dresser. Her eyes widened in surprise, and I threw the perfume against the wall in front of her. The woman jumped as the glass shattered, scattering on the floor.
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?" she screamed, standing up from the chair. Her heart raced, and it took everything in me to control my wolf as I looked at her.
"Where the hell are the diamonds, Haizel?" I asked again, this time my tone much more severe. And I could see she was scared. The entire pack was silent, and I knew it was due to the sound of the glass breaking and their wolves sensing their Alpha's anger. "And I'm not going to repeat the question again."
"I said I don't know," she said, her eyes filled with tears.
"When was the last time you saw them?" I asked, knowing she was playing with words. She wouldn't know where it was now. The idea of the seller selling something she sold to him was common. Her doing it behind my back was something I didn't approve of.
"One..."
"Two," I said, shouting at her. "And if I get to three without an answer, you will regret stepping into this pack."
"Dimitri, I'm carrying your child. Please, don't do this," she said, and I laughed. That was one of the excuses I knew she would use. It was the ONLY reason she still had her life despite her lies. Then I would know what to do with her.
"Three."
"I sold it," she said, stopping me. "I had to sell it because Bianca needed the money to cover up the scandal and the story with her husband. She didn't know how to confront the man and knew she couldn't pay from her account; he would suspect something. She asked for the money, and I was afraid to withdraw it from our account.
"Please, Dimitri, I gave her the money because she needed it. But please, I promised her to keep it a secret. I didn't expect the news to reach you." She said, making me take a deep breath. I stepped back, heading to the door, not wanting to see her face. "Dimitri..."
"The only conversation we both will have will be when we're at the hospital next week to check this baby." I said, not bothering to look at her.
"What hospital?" She asked, her voice dropping as she asked.
"I called Daniella." I said, looking at her over my shoulder. "Your appointment is next week, and I will not..."
"Damn..." Haizel said, holding her belly. Her eyes widened, and she clutched her shirt as a cry of pain escaped her lips. "My baby..."
"Haizel?" I asked, frowning as I turned to face her. I ran to her side and, lifting her in my arms, held her to my chest as I rushed to the infirmary.
Angel, who I saw with Lowrence before entering the room with Haizel, frowned at the sight before wrapping her arms around the boy, preventing Lowrence from seeing his mother in this state. "Go inside, I'll come in."
"Mom...?" Lowrence called, his voice low and full of fear.
"Don't worry, your mom will be fine," Angel assured. She nodded to one of the maids to take him back to the room before following me to the infirmary along with two pack members.
I laid Haizel on the bed, my heart racing as she screamed, holding her belly. Bella's eyes widened at the sight, but she didn't say a word for a second before nodding to me.
"Alpha, please, you and Luna Angel need to leave the room. We will take care of Luna Haizel and get back to you..."
