Decisive Confrontations
**Dimitri:**
"How are you feeling, Haizel?" I asked, entering the infirmary room.
She didn't say a word. Instead, she just held onto her blanket, pulling it up to her chin.
I looked at the woman, my anger still present, but the pack doctor's words still echoed in my head.
I couldn't upset her. She was still fragile, and that was something I had to keep in mind. She would need to be as comfortable as possible, and I knew I wouldn't be able to confront her about the emeralds. But I knew what I would do with the other jewelry she had.
"Do you really care to find out? Or are you just worried about the child?" She asked, her voice holding an irritation that bothered me. The fact that SHE was angry was a surprise to me. She was the one who made the mistake and, more than apologizing, she was the one with the attitude.
"Haizel, you're carrying our child. The idea of you getting hurt would mean the baby being harmed too. So, yes, to answer your question, I'm concerned about you and the baby." I said, and she scoffed.
"If it were another situation, you would have chosen the thing..."
"You made the mistake and you're angry?" I asked, stopping her. She turned to face me, her eyes meeting mine. She sat up, not saying a word for a few seconds before shaking her head at me.
"Would I have done it if I had any money with me in the first place? Money that I can control and call my own without you questioning every withdrawal I make? No, I wouldn't have. I asked you to have something in my name. ONE thing in my name. So I could have money, have my own funds, but no, you wouldn't allow it if I tried." She retorted, stopping me. I let out a warning growl, and she shook her head.
"If I were Angel, you would have allowed it. Hell, you two were boasting when you were married as a couple, managing things, even though she had not one, not two, but four different franchises in her name. Some of them, in fact, were shared between the two of you. You two were working as a real couple, as husband and wife!" She said, not bothering to wait to hear me. Her heart raced, and she clenched and unclenched her fists while trying to control her anger. "If you want to be angry with me for trying to help a friend, then you should be judging yourself!"
"You should LOOK at how you've treated me. You should look at the way you've handled things with me. Instead of blaming me, you should compare me to how you treated that wife of yours. You should treat me the same way you treated her. YOU should..."
"YOU SHOULD DESERVE IT FIRST, HAIZEL!" I shouted, stopping her from finishing her sentence. "Instead of comparing yourself to Angel, you should look at the different backgrounds between the two of you. Angel had her own things long before I married her. She never needed me and..."
"Then go to her," she said, stopping me. This time, her tone was calm, ten times calmer while speaking. Her heartbeat was fast, and her eyes met mine, and she cried, not saying a word for a moment. She was waiting for me to react, to apologize, but I shook my head at her.
"You chose to live with me, on MY terms. And we both agreed to do so. Though I never say anything against sending money. You can take as much as you want, but for you to sell something I gave you, to lie, to try to accuse, and God knows what you told someone to help you cover that lie; then you don't deserve a cent of what you're getting from me." I said, calmly. I knew I had to choose my words carefully now. I didn't know what she had in her mind, but I knew she was doing something very dangerous for both of us.
"As long as you want me to go to her, then you can find your way out of the house."
"Dimitri, you're playing a very bad game." She said, and I scoffed.
"You steal from me, and I'm the one playing the bad game? I'm curious, what is a good game in your eyes? Because it seems to me you don't even know what it means to be a loyal woman." I said, and she shook her head at me. "Anyway, I'll choose to stay quiet now. You're pregnant and almost had a miscarriage yesterday. We're both going to the hospital on Monday."
"What?" She asked, frowning in confusion. "What the hell are we going to do at the hospital?"
"You're pregnant. You can't expect me to keep you here when you almost lost the baby, right?" I asked, and she took a deep breath. Her eyes avoided mine for a second, and she shook her head, frowning while looking at her lap.
"What would I be doing in a human hospital? You know our process is different..."
"We're going to Daniella." I said, stopping her. "I believe you know she's familiar with wolves. The woman did the paternity test, meaning she understood and saw that the DNA wasn't human. We're going to check on you and the child. We're going to see how far along you are and..."
"I don't want to go," she said, and I scoffed, shaking my head. "That hospital is a reminder to me that you doubted our child. That you believed I would..."
"One thing you will start keeping in mind, Haizel." I said, stopping her. Her heart was racing, and the woman looked away from me, trying to stay calm while I spoke. "Yesterday was the last straw. Whatever you say, whatever you want, and whatever you do; I won't care. If I'm going to take care of you and if I'm going to look after you, it's for my son and for this child you're carrying inside you."
"Dimitri..."
"My word is final." I said, stopping her as I turned to the door. "Rest until then. Don't worry, Bella and I already talked, and I can bring a wheelchair if you need it. You don't need to worry about walking. I'll take care of everything..."
