Chapter 122

For the rest of the afternoon, I found myself eager to see Logan again. The clock seemed to tick by the minutes too slowly.
"Thank you for coming today," I said, closing a deal with an elderly gentleman in an expensive suit. "You can make your next appointment with Lynn."
He nodded, forcing a smile. "It was a pleasure." After shaking my hand, he held it for a minute. "You really are a great lawyer." Then, he leaned in and whispered. "I'll be sure to tell all my friends."
I smiled as I gave his hand a gentle squeeze, and then released it. "Thank you, Mr. Appleby. I truly appreciate that," I said as I opened the door. "I can use all the referrals I can get."
He chuckled. "Just remember me when you're too booked to take on new clients."
I laughed. "I can't wait for the day."
He smiled. "If you don't mind an old man giving you some fatherly advice, don't wish your life away. Enjoy every moment while you can."
I nodded, touched by the sentiment. "I will. Thanks, again."
He stopped by Lynn's desk, and I turned and I hurried into my office, eager to see Logan. "What the hell are you doing?" I asked myself as I slid into my long red coat and grabbed my purse.
"Have a great night!" Lynn beamed as she waved, her brunette ponytail swaying a bit.
I held up my hand, silently saying goodbye as I hurried out the door and down the hallway to the elevator. After I stepped in, it felt like forever until it opened on the bottom floor. I hurried to my car, and it seemed to know the way as I sped through the Manhattan streets to my building. I felt like a kid again going on a first date as I hurried down the hallway to my apartment a few minutes later. I just hoped that I wouldn't run into Logan before I was ready.
I smiled to myself as I walked into my apartment, throwing my jacket and purse on the chair closest to the door. What were the chances that Logan and I lived in the same building?
I hurried through the bedroom and took a quick shower; wrapped the fluffy white towel around me and hitched it between my breasts. Then, I headed to the closet and searched for what I wanted. A second later, I found it. A red, strapless dress, fitted in the bodice and down my body, stopping just above the knee. I topped it off with matching red high heels and a diamond necklace. Then, I pulled out my black leather trench coat that fell just below my knees, and changed everything over to my matching red clutch purse.
Then, I quickly blew my hair dry, smoothing my soft waves and letting it curl under at the ends. Next, I carefully applied makeup, applying more eyeliner and eyeshadow to accent my green eyes. Then, I applied matching red lipstick and was ready to go.
Minutes later, the doorbell rang. I looked at the clock and smiled. It was exactly seven o'clock. He was right on time, as usual. "Coming!" I yelled as I grabbed my coat and walked toward the door.
When I opened it, Logan was standing in the doorway and my breath caught. He was as beautiful as ever with his short, sun-streaked hair that fell over his forehead just right, and wearing a dark gray suit that fit him to perfection. Suit porn. He was so devastatingly handsome that he took my breath away.
"May I come in?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I chuckled as I stepped back. "Oh! I'm so sorry. Of course," I said as I stepped back. "You look great."
He took my hand and raised it to his lips, his eyes never leaving mine. "And you look exquisite," he said, smiling as he released my hand. "Shall we?"
I nodded, and then followed him out, locking the door behind us.
"Where would you like to go?" he asked as he placed his hand on the small of my back, guiding me toward the elevator.
I shrugged. "Do you have any place in mind?" I couldn't help but think of what it would be like to let him ravage me in the elevator again, but I quickly pushed the thought aside.
One corner of his lips curled into a smile. "As a matter of fact, I do. Do you mind if I keep it a surprise?"
I nodded as I let out a deep breath, not sure if I was up for any more surprises, since the incident with Curt. "Give me a hint?"
A broad grin spread across his face as we walked outside. "Still don't like surprises?"
I scrunched up my lips and shook my head as Logan laughed. "I guess not."
A limousine was parked outside, and the driver opened the door for us when we approached. As I slid in and Logan followed, I couldn't help but think of how different our lives were now, compared to when we were dating before. But money didn't matter. I was sure that we would have just as much fun together at any level. We always did.
"Penny for your thoughts?" he asked as he laced his fingers with mine.
I smiled as I shook my head, not wanting to ruin the moment.
"Oh, come on," he coaxed. "If not anything else, we've always been able to talk."
I nodded, knowing that he was right. "I was just thinking about how different our lives are now, but in a good way. Before, when we went out, it was shrimp picnic on the living room floor, or to a gig. Now, it's limos and first class all the way. I was thinking that no matter what, whether we have money or not, we always had a good time together."
He nodded his agreement as he slid his arm behind me and pulled me closer to him, then gently kissed my forehead. "Yes. We did," he said. "But let's just think of tonight, shall we? In fact, let's start over. Think of tonight as our new beginning."
I smiled as I looked into his eyes. "Sounds good to me."
His lips moved closer, ready to kiss me when the driver pulled to a stop and got out.
Logan gave me a smile and stepped out of the car, then walked quickly around to open my door, waving off the driver. Logan extended his hand to me, and I took it without looking back.
